I received a call from the Call Prevention Service this morning from 07920 654216 stating that I had paid the first instalment last year and the balance was due today.  I said I hadn't received a contract, or any paperwork or a request for payment so wouldn't be paying it but she said it was too late to cancel now and would have to speak to her manager about it.   Needless to say I haven't heard back.  I'm sure I wouldn't have signed up for anything as I'm registered with TPS which is free but calls like this make you doubt yourself. I'm feeling rather unnerved and I am going to phone my bank just in case.

My husband who is unwell and is actually fed up receiving nuisance calls at home received a call from CPS declaring they could rid him of these calls by purchasing a call blocking box - he promptly paid £89.99 over phone.  I am furious as it struck me as a con immediately but a normally astute clever but now ill man has been sucked in by these con artists.  Goodness knows how many vulnerable people have also been sucked in.  Having checked the company register number it is a dormant company that is not regulated - have not a lot of faith in getting our money back but will contact bank on Monday - have cancelled card also so they cannot take any more money.

i worked for this company until yesterday when i was fired for no reason. i was unaware it was a scam until today. the company is being illegally run and wont pay me now. i am aware this happens a lot. my advice would be talk to dorset police as i already have. they won’t refund you if you go to them directly. good luck. also the boss is called simon boyne. i hope this helps. also we are told to pretend we are official bt tps. we act like we have the first 4 digits of your card when we dont. we only knew them as we ask what bank youre with. all cards at the same bank start with the same 4 digits. they have a list saying these numbers. they have recently changed their name to cps or call prevention service. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR DETAILS! They threaten cancellation fees that dont exist too. my name on facebook is Alice Crosley. feel free to contact me for more info

Got a call from the "CPS" saying we took this service out a year ago (never did) and it was due for renewal and it £98.99 was due to go out of the bank account. When we told him we never had this service we got into a big argument with him refusing to let me speak and talking over everything I said, eventually I managed to get a word in.

First he said we had a contract, I asked him to send one out signed for because we haven't had one, he just said we have refused to send one out (because he couldn't). Next I asked if the calls were recorded and to send out the call where we signed up to prove we had a contract, same result.

Then I asked who took the contract out, he managed to give the only person in the house who doesn't have a bank card, and was in hospital at the time he said the contract was taken out.

Then he went round in circles a few more times so I took his name, company name and phone number which had one too many digits so I asked if I called this number from the other line would it come through now, at which point he hung up and surprise surprise the number was invalid.

Had a call 10 minutes ago that said it was Call Prevention service. He gave me the address 15 Mapesbury Road, NW2 4JE. Asked me for a one-off payment of £89. So obviously a scam, and I wouldn't have bought anything even if I had thought it was genuine. I rang off, and checked. Number withheld. Surprised?

Had a call from CPS last week saying I registered with them last year, I told them I have never registered with the CPS only the TPS, he was very rude saying "how silly "I was not remembering I registered, he said I have the recorded message , so I said "play it too me," he was unable to do this, then this morning 25th February  I had a woman calling me form CPS asking me for £89.00, told her I haven't got it,  so shes  calling me tomorrow for payment....... I don't think so.  WHAT A SCAM!!!

yes all of the above - and more is correct - all these companies are sharkes preying on old and vunerable people and the worse part is the companies are able to obtain individuals credit and debit card numbers - very worrying - just avoid at all cost thats the message

Well done you for coming forward...However, did you not think it strange when they told you to pretend you are official bt tps and to act like you know the first four digits of the card...Sorry to judge but it sounds like you knew more that you are letting or or at least were aware the Company was not very scrupulous !!...Sorry to be negative when you have come forward but it is a little late for some people, my Mum included !!

My Mum has just had a call from these people and as she is absolutely sick of these nuisance calls ( she gets lots) she was suckered in by this, so called company.
My Mum is a lovely genuine person and will speak to anyone. The person that called was apparently very plausible and genuine.!
I spoke to my Mum directly after this call and when she told me she had given her bank details over the phone I went mad ( sorry I did, as this made her cry when she realised what she had done)
I told her to contact her bank immediately which she did and they have cancelled her card and will not allow any payments to come out .)She is now on her way to the bank to get it sorted)
She is one of the lucky ones but unfortunately this has  made her feel very upset as she is feeling like she is "loosing it" and cannot believe she has been so stupid.
Why do these Companies prey on elderly, vulnerable people as they have enough to cope with at this time in their life?.
Its not so much the money with my Mum it is the fact that her confidence has now taken a massive knock as she has been taken in by these scamers ,when once upon a time this would never have hppened with her.
I have phoned the number  which was given to my Mum and "unsuprisingly" it isn't taking calls. I have left my name and number for them to call me back but expect I will be waiting a very long time.!!!!

Sorry to hear about your mum but until something is done by our government - and we all know nothing will be done regardless of whom is elected, then this will continue and your mum will be targeted again and again as these scammers share our information.
My advice would be to buy your mum a nuisance call blocker. I paid £24.95 for my Call Saint blocker and it is worth its weight in gold. I have blocked all numbers starting in 00, 084, 034, 0161, 0151, 09, 033, 080 and all international/withheld numbers. These are the main start digits for the scammers numbers If any others get through I block them individually - it can take up to 1200 individual numbers. You can get these on ebay or direct from the manufacturer. Brilliant bit of kit and I will add I am not an employee of Call Saint. Gives you peace of mind and it is great to see the call log of the scammers numbers that have tried to call and been zapped.

Simple question, Joe.  Do you cold call people offering your services?  If you do then people can't tell the difference between you and "bogus" callers using your name so would be well advised to hang up the 'phone..  If you don't them people will not fall for the calls claiming to be from CPS.  Sorry, but either way, you lose.  Anyone wanting a call blocker would be better advised to buy one from Amazon or Argos, or a call blocking 'phone.  Both are, I believe, cheaper that this so called service.
