    It's a legit service.  Someone tried to text me but used my landline number instead of my mobile - and BT left me a message telling me it had happened.  I contacted the person and they confirmed that it was genuine.

    Called twice at 11pm. Turned the ringer off and went to sleep. If you look further along Google results for this number, turns out it's a BT text store:

    * How can I retrieve voice messages?
    * To retrieve voice messages call 0845 602 1111 at any time.

    So it seems that it's simply someone sending you an SMS to your landline phone. Why the providers of this service think it's appropriate to forward the information late in the evening when children are asleep, heaven only knows.

    You can however turn this service off:

    * Blocking incoming text messages
    * Dial 0800 587 5252

    Good luck :)

    Thank-fully i'm switched on enough too smell a rat and suss out when something just doesn't seem Kosher, but sure there are thousands of people out there that despite having thoughts that somethings not quite right, still fall into trap just by being inquisitive enough and thinking they'd be safe enough as long as they don't give any personal details, but it could be the case, that just by calling the number or logging onto the website the message directs you too, you've already been snared, i've received two calls on my landline within a hours of each other at about 9pm, they were the type you get when sending a text message to a landline, mine said something a long the lines of you've been sent 4,600,000 plus pictures and to log onto a http address to view them

    i've received these SMS messages over the last few months all saying various things, it maybe a legit service on BT's side but whoever's sending isn't legit, it's just pure spam, hoping you'll call back or log onto a website, after i received the first one it made me check my BT bill, too which i noticed i'd been charged on two seperate occassions £9 & £5'ish both of which i wasn't at home to be able to use my landline to make these calls, it had them listed as a call to a mobile in Thailand?, So if i was you look closely at your bills as it may not be a massive amount, big enough too attract attention, but if they are doing this too tens of thousands they are racking it in...

    People people people, read the previous messages and google the number. If you actually listen to what other people have said on here that it's "the BT Text Alertt service" they're right.
    It's not a scam and if you want to stop getting texts sent to you landline number just call 08005875252 and listen to the instructions. JUST READ THE OTHER PEOPLE'S COMMENTS BEFORE MOANING ABOUT THE NUMBER!

    We just got 2 of these phone calls in the last 1/4 hour, and so I looked on here.

    However, when I texted my home phone, the message was read out instead of asking me to call a certain number to retrieve it.

    If it really is a text someone has sent to my home phone, why has it not been read out this way?

    I've texted home phones several times in the last few years, and always had it read out as it was when I texted my phone today.

    Could this have to do with location? I'm from england.

    I just answered a call from that number on my home line,  it was a Text Message from my sons mobile number.  I listened to the message and I'm confident that this line is not a 'scam'

    Answered the phone.
    A computer generated voice gave me a message claiming to be from a debt collector.

    Above number is a BT mobile to landline service.

    Rang my phone repeatedly all day (while I was out at work).  No message on BT's 1571, though, and in the anticipation it'd be some kind of scam, I didn't bother calling back. Found the instructions at http://www.fixedtext.com/main_help.htm to turn it off completely, and have done so.

    It's a message service if you text to a land line, nothing sinister.

    I don't think you get it peeps.
    Whenever anyone fancies sending a text message to a LANDLINE, this is the number which BT call from to deliver the text message as a spoken message.
    Remember Tom Baker did a stint a while back and it made the news headlines?
    So a few people thought it would be fun to send a text message (sms) to a landline number, and the person on the receiving end hears Tom Baker (or whoever does it now) reading out a text.
    THE SMS READING NUMBER USED BY BT TO DELIVER THE MESSAGE IS
    08456 021 1111
    Stop going on about scams. It seems to me someone is just playing a joke on you.
    Have any enemies?

    0845 602 1111 left a message on our landline answering machine. It gave several options, one of which was (if I recall correctly) to press 2 to save the message. I did this and heard something about an orgasm! Rip off or not (and I'm bit worried about what I triggered by pressing option 2), I would have thought we should have to request this "BT service", rather than have to ask to stop it.
