This has got to stop, and there is only 1 organisation to blame for it and that is British Telecom. It is a BT number they have sold to somebody or other organisation. It was probably one of a batch of number they sold to one buyer.
Some 8 years ago we had a big problem with another of these numbers sold by BT, the number was used by a company in an Eastern Block country to exploit dial-up internet users. It used it by calling up your line connection and somehow implanting a time bomb program in your PC, this program worked in such away tht when you were not using your PC it would manage to turn your PC on and then connect to the net via way of a Dial-up conecttion to thier web site that was charged at a premium rate of £17.02 for every 10 minutes. During the period of 1 day we were charged on our BT phone bill for that particular number £190.82 extra on top of our normal phone usage.
at that particular time and day my wife was driving a party of people to Gatwick Airport and I was working driving a bus in and around our home city, and a a pricise time of when one of the connections was being made we both could varify where we were for a particular 1 hour period in the morning, I was personally dictating a statement to a traffic cop as I was a witness to a road traffic accident and my wite was sitting in traffic on the M25 just north of the Dartford crossing. Our house was locked up with of two dogs in the hallway.
After a couple of months arguing with BT about what we had been charged on our bill and getting no where in the process I swapped providers to a company called GSI and we had no other problems for a long time after.
I was not in the least supprised when it was revealed in 2002 that BT had made a colosal fortune from there business activities in 2001. £190.82 was stolen from us, with many others losing thousands of pounds that year and for years after. It looks like they intend to do the exact same thing for many years to come, unless something is done about it now. And those responsible are brought to justis by our so called government and through the courts.- Caller: BT
- AlphWHAT IS BEING DONE ABOUT THIS VERY ANNOYING PHONE NUMBER?
YOU HAVE HAD LOTS OF COMPLAINTS - EmilyThe comments here are ridiculously untrue.
This is not a scam, it is a very useful service, set up by BT.
To test it to show you that I'm telling the truth, simply text a message from your mobile number to you home number.
Now, because most landline phones cannot view text messages, this useful service converts the text into an automated voicemail message instead. It acts in the same way as voicemail does.
It will call you when you've received a text message and it will read it out for you. It will read out the number of the person who has texted you and then it will read out the text that they sent.
It's a shame that there isn't a help page with this number that people can look at on the internet to show them that THIS IS NOT A SCAM NUMBER!
Happy calling! - marijkeRang me at 10.39pm the tossers!
- Janeboygot a call from these idiots at 12.47 this morning.Best ignored methinks
- JohnIf you want to cancel it, or limit the times at which you receive the calls, then just phone the number mentioned previously (08005875252) and follow the prompts - option 5 cancels all text message receipts, other options limit the times at which they call you - it's easy.
- EmmaI just got a call from this number - an automated message asking me to 'please press 1 if you are Emma and please press 2 if you are not.' It said 'this call is not costing you anything and is free. I still didn't press anything and put the phone down. It's a con.
- heidii just had a call from this number 08456021111 its a bt messenging service thats all and mine was a text from my boyfriend who text my home number instead of mobile by mistake
- ClaireAs far as I can work out, this is the number that calls if someone has sent a text message to your landline (often in error!)
My daughter sent an SMS to "Mum Home" instead of "Mum Mobile" and 08456 021 111 is the phone number that delivered that message, not her mobile phone number. - TerriYet received a telephone call from this number. Got to phone, stopped ringing. Done 1571 to get my messages, told me to press 5, states don't recognise number.
- CheekyBanditGot a call from this number - a mate probably texted my landline rather than my mobile. Thought it odd as my landline phone is capable of displaying text messages.
- CheekyBanditIs there any way of getting this service to send proper text messages to my phone where that can be stored until I CHOOSE TO DELETE THEM as it was before - rather than held on a server for 24 hours tops.
- Need to let the answer phone kick in!!!I received a call on Mothers Day evening. It was a message all about mothers etc, listened for a few seconds, then put the phone down. I asked my kids if they had send it and they hadnt. This isnt the first time I've received these daft calls
