If you want to opt out of receiving text on your landline (and therefore opt out of calls frm 08456021111), then phone 0800 587 5252 from your landline, select option 1 then option 5.

I had a call from this service at 10.40pm.  I wondered who or what it was.  Came on here, found all about it and then called the number above to change the curfew time from 8am-11pm (to late for me) to 9am-9pm.

This has made up for the internet being rubbish today at work...

Called first at 7.15 in the morning and twice again later. It's still only 8.45. It tells me I have a text message from a number I do not recognise so I've gone no further with this.

Was woken today at 7.20am today. I heard name of website but not the number so dialled 1471. Didn't recognise it so checked this site. Am with TalkTalk not BT, but DID have fault with my phone 9th June 2009 and BT had the newly laid path dug up so they could relay pipe for phone lines to 4 houses, the old pipe being rotten. The line was finally declared OK on 1st July 2009.

Was woken with a call today at 06:49 on 17/7/09. SMS as with ewveryone else. I have now changed the curfew time [thanks for the number tommy scotia] to 9 pm - 9 am but if the curfew was originally 11 pm - 8 am how did the call get through at 06:49?

Firstly: Nicky above... try reading the message before you leave silly messages like 'who the hell are these people' Doh!!

After reading these messages i was confident to answr the next call i received and it was a text message sent by a mate of mine.

After the text message was read out i was offered a choice of whether i wanted to change the time that texts are delivered or opt out of the service altogether.

I chose the option of opting out (you can do it withouut picking up your messages by calling this number 0800 587 5252)

I have now done this, its really simple and i'm pretty sure i'm not gonna get any more calls.

I dont think it matters who your provider is.... I'm with Virgin. Surely anyone who has your number, friends/family/marketing companies would be able to text you a message if they so desired. BUT NOT ANYMORE WHOOHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The BT text service sounds plausible - as we'de had these to our house phone (though didn't make a note of number it was sent from) - how do you explain that I keep getting calls for 08456021111 to my mobile then.  If someone was sending a text to my mobile surely it would have come through a a text?

This number is the BT messaging service. If somebody sends a text message to your landline, this number will call you nd relay the message. NOT a scam.

    Guys - got feed up with this, it is a BT service that converts text messages from mobile phones into speech - usually obscene messages. BT advised me to turn the service off;
    call 0800 587 5252 from your home number / choose option 1 / choose option 5

Thats stops any nusiance text messages going to your phone.

It is a BT text messaging service - I had three calls within an hour, ignored the first two but having visited here answered the 3rd call - It was a robotic text message confirm delivery of an online order.

You can control the time calls are received [or stop them] by phoning 0800 587522

It is actually a very helpful service but such is the world we live in we all suspect the worst <grin>

Definately BT sms service.  Just rang the 0800 number and have had it turned off altogether.  Thanks to Roz on 19 June for that number.  Just incase anyone reading this wants to turn the service off, just dial 0800 587 5252, then choose options 1 then 5.  As the Meerkat would say... 'Simples!'

as other said "it is a BT service that converts text messages . call 0800 587 5252 from your home number / choose option 1 / choose option 5"

Some dentist use this to remind you of an appointment a few days before. nice idea but system keeps at it for days.

If you are "x" directory, add 1470 before 0800 587 5252 and i will work for you too. That reveals your number to the system to remove you.
