This number has been phoning for a while on and off.  It called me twice tonight since 9.00pm the last time being 9.50pm.  I was really cross by now and phoned BT to block the number.  BT advised it was a genuine number advising me that a text had been sent to my landline phone.  It costs 2p per minute to retrieve the messages.  BT gave me a number to call which will allow me to set/adjust options with regard to if, how and when I receive calls from this 0845 number......here goes....

HAS BEEN GETTING CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER FOR AT LEAST 5 WEEKS NOW THE LATEST BEING TWO  CALLS THIS EVENING. MY MUM DID CALL THIS NUMBER BACK ONLY ONCE LAST WEEK AS IT HAD LEFT HER A MESSAGE SAYING "MUM CALL ME QUICK PLEASE" OF COURSE THIS WORRIED THE LIFE OUT OF HER, BUT OF COURSE IT WAS A SCAM... DO NOT CALL THESE BACK. WE HAVE LET THE TELEPHONE PROVIDER KNOW ABOUT THIS SO HOPEFUULY THE CALLS WILL STOP.

Just had 2 calls from this number although we have been ignoring them for weeks.  Thank goodness for caller display.  We will continue to ignore this no matter how irritating the calls become!

I've had two calls this (Sunday) morning from this number - it rang around four times then hung up before I could reach my phone.  Oddly I'm with Virgin for landline telephone - even more oddly (if it's a text service) I received both calls from this number on my Orange mobile! I checked here and was writing this when it rang again, I answered it and it was indeed BT text messaging service which went on to read out a message I'd received (on the same mobile)earlier this morning from my daughter who uses Tesco mobile - god knows how a mobile to mobile text got routed through BT!

I'd suggest answering the damned thing even if it's just to stop it redialling every ten minutes, then ringing up BT and giving them earache( or calling the number that other people have posted further up the list to cancel the "service"

was called all day, eventually answered the one at 10.05 pm sunday night. it was a message reminding me that school starts again for my son in september ! gonna complain to the school

I was called today from this number on my skype online number which i have only had a day...very strange

Our company got a call from 08456021111 to our ex directory number that we never give out;didn't answer as it was not a number we recognised. ten minutes later the same number rang us again...just waiting to see if it rings again, I will answer to see what it's about, and report here....it ran again...it was from an employee...apparently you can send a text message from your mobile phone to a land line and then a speaking voice reads it out and it sounds very funny....!! Obviously not giving our employees enough to do!! so don't worry if you get a call from this number!!!

Started receiving several calls a day from this number, received 4 calls between 9pm & 10.30pm last night!!  Did not answer as not recognised number and silence when picked up first call.  Ridiculous, how do u stop it???

This number is the BT text message service. Basically, if a mobile texts your landline, it will usually go through a BT line unless you use Virgin Media who use a cable line. BT handle the text, and call you noting that you have a text.
If you dial the number back it will give you your phones current status: whether you have any text messages and if so you are able to delete them.

Even tho your phone provider may be Sky it goes through the british telecommuncation line (BT) and BT process the text message and alert you of it.

If you want to completely stop nuisance calls from this number, I have found the solution, tried it myself, and it works!

Dial freephone number 0800 5875 252. This is a free automated BT number which allows you to control the curfew times at which you receive text messages from this service.

Press 1 to change from the standard curfew time, then press 5 to stop all messages coming through at any time.

I found this on the moneysavingexpert.com forum and am now very happy that I will receive no more annoying calls from this number again. I think that if someone genuinely wants to send me a message, they will leave a voice message on my answering machine, or a text message on my mobile number.

its when someone texts you from there mobile, you might get the last 5 numbers off the person who rang you.

this is a service provided by BT. It converts SMS text message to voice message. Regardless of who your provider is you can receive a call from this number as the service itself is provided by BT. Therefore, this number is just like your SMS service centre number. IT IS NOT A SCAM, you will not be charged for receiving the call. if you call back you will be charged at the standard rate for 0845 which is roughly 3p per minute. (this varies depending on your telephone provider).

It is a genuine service from BT but the instigator may not have genuine reasons for sending you the text. If it's someone you know, why aren't they texting your mobile? I have just cancelled this facility as per Maria.

i dont know who or why they are calling me it has been five times today and its really pi**ing me off is there any way to report this number or get it the phone switched off it goes on about some sms message but i hang up instantly who is this number 08456021111

I was just called by this number 0845 602111. Told me i had a text message and that i had to press 1 to hear it, which i did. The message was something like 'bye now'. It quoted a mobile number which it is from, which i do not recognise. Will i get charged for pressing 1?

I just got a call from 08456021111 saying something about being an sms message service I didnt catch the mobile number but the message was about being banned from a store?? is it a number that cost you money if you press any keys?

have just had this stupid message twice in 5 minutes, just put the phone down!!
