    How to get out!!

We received a call from brokers stating the same as Select Energy, we were out of contract, on emergcy tarriff etc - when we asked for an audio copy of our agreeement they could only provide us with the part of the conversation detailing the contract, they could not provide us with the whole conversation (I had spoken to them before the boss yet this conversation was not sent to Opus and the broker did not provide this in the 2 week timescale), as such they had no other option than to cancel our contract.

Had similar call from Select Energy claiming that our address & postcode did not match the meter details, and that they were the "last step" after our application to npower. We too have just recently moved into the property and are moving our energy supplies (to npower as it happens).

I phoned npower to clarify, and there is no problem with our application, address, MPRN/MPAN numbers and meter details.

    = SCAM !!

PS I had a similar call from "Energy Search Meter Registration" last week, also a scam - beware.

Very usefull thread! They've been calling me from "Private number", but when asked for their details, gave this number and the name Select Energy. Same story: want you to sign over to npower wih a 3 years contract, because they are the cheapest in your area. Luckily didn't go through with what they call "voice recording" that actually means "contract", the alarm rang when they wanted to set up a direct debit and transfered over to someone reading terms and conditions in a tempo that was impossible to follow.
Going over to the ICO website to report them.

So pleased I read this, have just received a call from them. I'm not easily scanned but they seemed to know a awful lot about me! I've not given them any details - and I'm so pleased that I didn't now!!!  Thanks all, hope everyone who's dealt with them gets sorted.

    It's a Scam
It's all a massive scam masterminded by Andy Pilley who owns BES Utilities suppliers of electricity, gas and telecoms and uses his best mates Lee Goulding-Qualter & Darren Martindale to front these various brokers. No cooling off period, 5 year contracts with £5000 termination fees, non existent customer service, only payment by direct debit, poor broadband, frequent threats of legal action for disputing bills. For the survival of your business I'd stay away as far as possible from BES Utilities!

I have been receiving calls from this number constantly over the past few weeks. We are new tenants that have just relocated our business to a new location. They also claim to be called "Select Energy" but have told me different company names in the past, this obviously raised a red flag. They also call from a "No Number" and provided this number to call them back with. At first they seemed to know a lot of what they were talking about and said we were on "out of contract" rates and were running on emergency rates that were 58% higher than normal. They said they needed my gas and electricity meter serial codes urgently to remove this "out of contract rate" otherwise they would have to remove our meters. I said I will call them back later, and so happy I found this thread when I was researching the number. When I was googling this number it also came up with "Blue Bank Solutions Ltd" which is a utilities brokerage company in Blackpool. I called back to tell them I knew they were a brokerage company and said they were not to call back to my business or I'd file a report to the police. Very nearly caught me out! Must be very careful.

Had 7 calls yesterday from this company and 1 first thing this morning saying they are Select Energy and that we are on an emergency electricity tariff and they have been referred by another supplier to claim back costs on the meter despite the fact there was no registered supplier before we moved in because there was no electricity!. We also asked them to remove from database and they keep calling despite this. We'd never given them any details because I'd never give business to a nuisance caller that thinks we're a warm lead, but this takes up a lot of business time and energy. I'd advise not even listening to them and just reading out the messages on this site. I will do that many times today if I have to. Much more satisfying than getting angry! If they're wasting my time, I'm going to make them feel like idiots.

Just received an unsolicited phone call. Caller claimed to be from Select Energy, knew the name of my business and that I had moved recently. He said I had taken over the tenancy recently and there was a query about the electricity meter reading and the business was paying an emergency tariff rate. I told him I'm not a tenant, he said oh you own the business then? I said yes and I've already signed up for a scheme that I'm quite happy with. He rang off at this point. I thought the whole thing sounded fishy so I tried to get the phone number but it was a with held number. Then searched and found this thread. Hopefully I don't get bombarded with calls now.

I had a call (twice) from a Mr Holburn at Select Energy with regards to a property I hold a clinic in.  He tried to tell me that I was paying 'emergency electricity rates' and that he needed to deal with it.  I promptly informed him that the while I do operate in the address he named I neither hold a tenancy or am named on an electricity bill and that the organisation does not have a fixed base and has no electricity bills for any locations.  He tried to argue with me and I informed him that as this is quite clearly a scam if he does not hang up and remove my number from his database I will be reporting him to the polive as fraud.  He has not called since

Metre registrations supposedly. Constantly calling because we've taken on new premises. Sound like scammers as they say things which try to suggest they are involved in the energy supplier you've set up with. Somehow they are getting information about your business and then ringing you pretending that you need to give them your details. Scammers!

    Mr Jackson
We had numerous calls within a day of moving into our new property. Exact same spiel as all the other comments on here. My wife was savvy and googled them. Conning fraudsters trying to sell Npower. Npower should be ashamed if they have anything to do with them (which they must as their logo is all over their website!)

Hi there! We have just had exactly the same thing happen and I have requested all of the voice recordings from NPower - Select Energy set up the contract and there were a total of 3 conversations, all of which were deceiving and the initial conversation was the outright lie of 'our rates will go up to emergency tariffs'. The director was out of the country and I told the first caller I was not authorised to sign a new contract and asked for them to send through a physical copy for him to review when he gets back (fully deceived that I was talking to our current energy supplier, which I now know I was NOT!). I was passed to two more people, the third rattled of 4 minuted of inaudible Ts&Cs to me (it was not made clear that I was signing a contract and this was slipped in in the last 20 second of he talking for 4 minutes).

I have requested the recording of all of the conversations, but NPower have only been able to provide me with the recording of the Ts&Cs section. Please can you fully explain how you got out of the contract as I am really getting annoyed and exasperated with NPower after plenty of complaints to them. Thank you.
