- Catherine MacLennanWish I'd seen this thread before now. I've spent nearly a year in dispute with NPower as this company acted as broker for me giving NPower wrong meter information. This resulted in a huge bill & threat of bailiffs & power to be cut off - the meter they were due to disconnect wasn't mine. We got a last minute reprieve & are hoping it is the end of it.

- WeegThis number just phoned our office. Very convincing initial opening speech, however quickly realised something wasn't right. Caller had confidence and can see how this might fool some.
Best thing to do is just hang up. After all, you should know what's going on with your energy contract anyway!- Caller: Select Energy

- JBWRS Water, AKA Select Energy, etc.... They appeared to be trying to 'sell' me my waste water charges at a 'cheaper rate' than 'Scottish Water Board' (who don't exist) lots of gobbledygook and attempts at bafflement.
They provided my Waste Water Supply Point ID, which was of course incorrect......
In the end they 'just wanted to let me know our 'ID' had 'gone to the market', as a customer service!
Eh, if I had the plague they would no doubt claim to be the only ones with a cure....... best avoid.- Caller: WRS Water

- MashedPotatoesHi there,
Our business recently moved and they rang us up, asking for one of my colleagues by name. Identified themselves as Change of Tenancy Office. Needless to say that such an office doesn't exist in the UK. As my colleague wasn't in, I had the "pleasure" of dealing with the caller. Said something about us being on "Emergency rates" which were supposed to be 40% more expensive than the usual rates. At first no one in the office really understood what nonsense the caller was going on about since our electricity bill is covered by our monthly rent. Then I googled and ended up here. Already the fact that he didn't use their real company name when ringing up sounds more than dodgy to me. Just thought I'd contribute the company name they used on us and hope all of you who had trouble with them eventually got it sorted.
Cheers!- Caller: Change of Tenancy Office

- SOSJust been released from a 3 year Npower contract at 18.51p per unit arranged by Select Energy Direct. Initially Npower did not listen to my complaint and simply stated that they had listened to the contract agreement section of a phone call and my wife agreed to it, however I got a call out of the blue from Npower to say that a senior manager had looked into my allegations and decided to release us from our contract to protect the Npower brand!?!? could this be the next PPI???? were you mis-sold an energy contract???? If you were complain now!!!

- Scam diddly amWell aren't these lot a shower of untrained morons, same story as everyone else, meter registration department, blah blah.
Recommended npower. Will call npower.
It is an energy broker attempting to hide their poor sales training techniques to get you onto an energy tariff. I wouldn't mind if they just said they thought they could get a better deal but they continually try to gather information sneakily that they should have if they are who they claim to be.
Scam. Select energy scam.- Caller: Select Energy

- DawnSame story to everyone else, this company is spamming my telephone line, I've registered over 16 calls in the last 2 days, plus 2 in the last 10 minutes. Same old spiel about there being a change in tenancy - which is ridiculous as I've owned my property outright for 15+ years. Very rude staff, now reported to the ASA

- Registered charityJust had these guys trying to lure us into a contract with Npower or Opus, included lower rates of VAT on these contracts into their argument, which made me suspicious. Seemed to know a fair amount about us, but not sure how. Asked for details to be emailed across and (surprise, surprise) nothing has appeared. I have contacted npower to make sure that they have on record that we have not agreed to any transfer.

- AdamWith everything going on with setting up shop, I stupidly fell for Select Energy Direct's scam. They lied about the rates we were currently on (didn't know at the time of calling) and used that to pressurise the sale. So annoyed with myself but can't believe these cowboys can get away with these tactics. Have initiated complaints procedure with the supplier and will take it to energy ombudsman if no joy. Trying to get contract cancelled.

- AdamFurther to last message, have complained to Trading Standards, Trading Standards Blackpool and Opus Energy. It's a slight relief that SOS (12 Oct 2016) was released from the contract by NPower - I hope Opus will also do the same. As the recording sent to Opus is only the contract part of the conversation and not the preceding conversation with all the lying, I'm prepared for them to reject my case.
It's hard to find success stories of people getting out of these fraudulent contracts (fraudulent because they dupe you into them with misinformation) - is this because there aren't many? My direct debit is not yet set up and I'm so tempted to get the bank to prevent it being set up. The trouble is that the supply is already set up to begin with Opus on 22nd May and I think I would need their cooperation or else there's the risk of being cut off.- Caller: Select Energy Direct
- Call type: Telemarketer
- AdamSuccess! Opus have agreed to abandon the contract and my supply is returned to the original provider. It helped that the supply with Opus had not yet started. Opus themselves were good to deal with about it and courteous to be fair to them.

- Shelley replies to Mrs Scammed| 1 replyDid you ever manage to get out of the scam? Who dealt with it? Put under pressure yesterday, went along with the scam, now needing to find a way out. Any help you can give would be great....
- DSJust had call saying they were Select energy. We haven't even signed the lease yet. They really tried to push me. Went along with it until they wanted me to say we had control of the building. Refused. They were very pushy and sounds official. Do not give them details

- Adam replies to ShelleyGet on to the energy company you're now signed up with. Don't bother trying to contact Select Energy. Hopefully you can get it resolved before the switch over date as it will be easier than after the switch has happened. Write a detailed record of the sales phone calls (presumably there were two - initial call and the seal the deal call that was recorded by them) - include names, times, what was said, any quoted figures - as much as you can. As well as phoning the energy company, send this information in an email to them as well. It can also help to send them a Tweet if you use Twitter as it's public. Do all these things and I hope it works out for you. Also worth sending a letter to the local Trading Standards. Good luck.
