Report a phone call from 08456891573 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Adam replies to ShelleyGet on to the energy company you're now signed up with. Don't bother trying to contact Select Energy. Hopefully you can get it resolved before the switch over date as it will be easier than after the switch has happened. Write a detailed record of the sales phone calls (presumably there were two - initial call and the seal the deal call that was recorded by them) - include names, times, what was said, any quoted figures - as much as you can. As well as phoning the energy company, send this information in an email to them as well. It can also help to send them a Tweet if you use Twitter as it's public. Do all these things and I hope it works out for you. Also worth sending a letter to the local Trading Standards. Good luck.
- SIMONCall from with held number saying they were Select Energy (08456891573) - and my recent rates were on Emergency levels. I followed all the steps and did the recording however did not give bank details and asked for info to be sent out.
Got a call from N Power straight after welcoming me to the company. (01253708956)
I have called both companies back to cancel which they claimed to do no bother.
I'm worried what will happen next due to the recording - I'm usually so good at calling bulls*t however they seemed very genuine and knew a lot of info on the call.

- John Greaves replies to RyanI'm shocked at the reviews, I had being running with BG for 3 months on the out of contract rate, I received a call and was very sceptical, however a lovely lady helped me to source a new contract and now all is well.

- BewareTheBadOnes| 3 repliesIf you are on deemed or out of contract rates with your current supplier, the rates will be around 28-30p.
If you call your supplier and arrange a contract you will pay 10-15p electricity, and 3 to 3.5p gas, depending on where you are and the consumption you use.
Always do this before agreeing to sign up with anybody. Stop the call and ask them to call back later.
This will give you a starting point. Never ever take a cold callers word for anything. They are not calling for free!!!
When they call back, you will have a proper contract rate from your current supplier. If they can beat it, fair enough.
I can never understand anybody who agrees to anything monetary with a cold caller, irrespective of who they say they are.
For your information, there is no cooling off period for these contracts. If you verbally accept, you are tied in.
THE ONLY WAY OF ESCAPING IS TO CALL YOUR CURRENT SUPPLIER WITHIN 48 HOURS AND AGREEING A CONTRACT WITH THEM.- Caller: Select Energy

- Barry R| 3 repliesI'm really interested in reading this thread. I allowed Select Energy to sign my pub up to NPower having been told by them I was on emergency rates with BG. Turned out this was untrue and the three year contract has cost me £6,600 more. I have a court case hearing with Select Energy in early October so any information anyone can send will be helpful. But here's an important question........is there anyone on this site who was not sent to NPower by Select Energy?

- John Greaves replies to BewareTheBadOnesI will again explain what happened with me, I was with BG for 3 months , I was paying the bills as I had received a letter from them saying they were my supplier.
I received a call from Select Energy of which I was dubious off.
I contacted BG and they confirmed that I did not have a contract with them. I asked why, they said that they could set me a contract up if I wanted to . Again I asked why there was no contract. I was told I had to contact them to set up a contract. Very unhappy with them indeed.
I was given rates very close to 15 pence per unit from Select Energy. I did not have to pay them a fee , all I know is that they did me a favour in calling me.
With regards to answering the phone to them I was concerned as you would be, however after I did my own research what I found turned out to be correct.
If I had not spoken to Select on the phone I would still be with BG.
I am a very dubious person and can understand peoples concerns, however I am new to running a business and thought the supplier would sort everything out for me. - John Greaves replies to BewareTheBadOnes| 1 replya few seconds ago

I signed up with them (naively) after setting up a new business. I got out of the contract only by going through my existing provider, who blocked the transfer. I then got a contract with the existing provider, who were considerably cheaper than the one Select Energy signed me up for (despite telling me that they broker for all the energy companies and what they found was the cheapest deal. It wasn't, by any stretch). Select Energy had signed me up with Opus but the other one they initially suggested was NPower. I haven't found a forum where they sign people up for anyone other than these two companies.
- Adam replies to John GreavesInterested to know if you asked BG what rates they could have given you? 15 pence is expensive. Or had you already signed up with Select Energy before speaking to BG?
I didn't do enough research on Select Energy while they were on the phone as it didn't take long to establish that there is nothing positive to be found about them at all (other than your comment above). The website is superficial and they do not respond to emails.
I hope it works out for you, but really, I would warn anyone to avoid Select Energy like the plague. They've operated under various guises, all of which are designed to con people out of money by signing them up for needlessly expensive contracts. - Paul| 1 replyI can help with anyone having issues with information if required

- PaulThe reason its always Npower or Opus is becuase they are the only companies they sell on behalf of as they pay the best commission to them
- Martin Rainsford replies to PaulHow can you help Paul , how do you know they only work with 2 companies . Best regards Martin
- PaulI have had problems in the past with them regarding my business and found this out amongst a lot of other things.

- SOS replies to Barry R| 1 replyI went to my solicitor regarding the NPower contract sold to us by Select Energy. I was told that the company were in the red, yes we would probably win a court case but we would not receive any money they were ordered to pay by the courts as they have none. They know exactly what they are doing and don't care, and neither do NPower. They are happy to take the money and pass on Select Energy's commission on the ones that fly under the radar.
- PaulCan't believe I fell for this scam!!!
They are so good at what they do. Convince you they are a government body and make you feel as if your supply will be cut off if you don't set up a contract. Fill you with layer apon layer of lies.
Managed to maintain where my electric comes from, by sticking with the previous owners electric supply and getting them to lock my supply. I did do this within 20mins of my last phone call with Select Energy.
2 months later i recieved a call from Npower to say my complaint had been upheld and they would not seek my power supply as i am on the recorded part of our conversation asking if it was the cheapest on the market to which i was told a lie.
I suspect it has more to do with them being unable to take my supply. Npower will never be my electric supplier as this is ultimately who Select Energy work for.
Should be locked up for what they put people through.- Caller: Select Energy

Luckily I'm with a good energy provider and have contacted them to let them know the situation , they'll be blocking selects select if they try and 'switch ' us ! Wrong what companies like this are doing , not sure how their operatives sleep at night - go out and earn a proper living like your victims!
