The following was recently sent to me by an OE ex-employee:

"The whole company is based on bullying & sales targets.  Aftercare is an after thought.

There is pressure from managers not to give the customer all available information for fear of scaring them off.

I have seen customers lied to at every level and witnessed a colleague telling a customer to lie on a credit application in order to fund their surgery - at the Liverpool branch this practice is rife."

NB: Should David Moulsdale wish to pursue any legal action for libel - bring it on!  I might finally get press coverage ;)

What does it mean OE will buy back 40 of the 83 stores in administration? Has that already happened? The stores that havent closed are they the 'bought back' stores?

I doubt he will buy any back. It is bull. He said 40 had closed but it is 57. He said under 100 redundancies but it is many times more. He is a liar.

Just to clarify a few points, I do not work for Optical Express or have any ties to David Mousdale.

My Beautiful Eyes, yes you have gave an example where a procedure went wrong, out of how many????? probably tens of thousands.

If Optical Express as so bad why are so many people still using their services? You will find many sales jobs are agressive. For example how many calls have you had to sell you double glazing, payment protection claims etc, these guys have to convert 2 from every 100 calls they make and believe me this is hard going as many people including me cut them off as soon as they start their sales pitch.

I have stood in sales meetings within organisations in a role of sales executive and been told hit your target or leave, god even the government are changing the employment laws as we speak in order for companies to get rid of under performers as they are a drain financially, they also tend to be negative.....and as such cause negative vibes in any organisation.

I have also had to fire under performers and again these guys seem to know employment law inside out, and i can be 100% honest and tell you that these types are aways the under performers, they should most definitly stay away from target driven sales roles and stick to jobs in the public service where they can take as many sick days as they like on full pay and do very little the rest of the time. Again we have all witnessed this when dealing with government departments or local councils.

So again i recently dealy with optical express and was impressed with the service from start to finish and i would recomend them and i already have.

Your third paragraph answers your own question - aggressive selling is why people are still using their services and because not everyone is aware of the scale of problems.

I challenge you to go work for david moulsdale for two years then come back to tell us what you think of David moulsdale and optical express .You have not worked at optical express so you can't really speak on behalf of that company .

In the meantime some organisations have already identified problems with optical express .

I worked for them for 4 years. Endless changing regional managers, never stayed longer than 6 months. The worst company I have ever worked for. No pay rise. No performance review, Targets changing all the time and never achievable. All true about the Christmas parties. Moulsdale spent the entire evening one year leading young optical assistants to his rooms! What a sleazeball.

OE are going to re-open good 20 or so stores recently closed down. They are waiting for administrators to finish their work and soon renegotiation of lease will commence.

The AOP is offering advice to all members affected by the closure of 40 Optical Express practices across the UK.

The Association has enrolled the help of an employment law specialist to provide initial support, following the announcement that a number of redundancies would be made at the multiple.

As well as practitioners, a number of pre-reg students will be affected by the news. The AOP urges pre-reg students who are yet to join as members to do so, with AOP membership free to pre-reg students.  

The branches closing are owned by subsidiary company 123Leeds Ltd.

It has been too long that the industry has allOwed young people to enter optical express without full knowledge of David moulsdales attitude towards his employees including the abuse of the position of trust he had in this industry as a company leader to use it to his advantage and lie to young women and as it seems from some of the posts here .

No young woman deserves to be subjected to moulsdales humiliating  manipulation and conveyor belting of young ladies he has preyed on for his own gain at the expense of his employees who have no reason to believe that he would act in a manner which is not in the best interest of his employees or business and is sitting in a position of trust which he is happy to abuse .

We cannot continue to hide these facts from others our in our  industry . It is in the best interests of all that these facts remain in the public domain . This poor leadership is dragging down the moral of people who want to do a good job and this in my view unstable leadership is in my view resulting in the tarnishing if an entire industry through instances like watchdog .

It is time moulsdale considers very carefully to sell and leave our industry because we do not condone his actions and it is time he left our industry. We do not respect him for it . And we do not appreciate his apparent lack of respect for the people of this industry either.

It's time to go moulsdale . You have had your fun .

I am rather inclined to agree with Getalife. Thats what many of you on here should do.

I have been reading the contents of this site and quite frankly I am rather bemused as to the extent of the hatred towards one man and his organisation. Moulsdale is running a business during a very uncertain time in our economy, if he chooses to consolidate his business then so be it. Streamlining is the normal course of action and sadly to say invariably some people with lose their jobs, it's the life that we live in at the moment.

I hear the energy companies are putting their prices up, this will result in people freezing to death over the winter period which especially hard for the elderly even though the energy companies are making masses of profit.

As for Moulsdale's private life, that's his business, he is hardly a Jimmy Savile!

Optical Express is overall a very successful business which has a great future once the streamlining is complete. There are some exceptional people that work for OE, they work very hard and with sheer professionalism and dedication. The weak link in the organisation is a chap called Hugh Kerr.

This is hardly a campaign that's gathering momentum, it's the usual few that comment on here. The OEruinedmylife twitter account has a massive following of 8 people!

As you obviously work for OE you must also know Patrick James-Green, who, at a meeting he requested last March, asked me how much it would be worth to me to give up my government campaign.

When I told him not for a million pounds, he went on to say that his boss, David Moulsdale, would pay me £10k not to mention Optical Express in my fight against the industry - recorded as you know.

For months I played ping pong with your IT team, who fought valiantly to keep that recording off YouTube, and I finally gave in the week I won the Nominet dispute to keep the OERML domain name.

For those who missed it, the recording will going up on the OERML website which is due for a major overhaul.

Meanwhile, looks like Hugh Kerr is your sacrificial lamb.

Anyone who thinks that the owner of any company should be using his position to go around chatting up his employees with view to getting as many young ladies in bed - which may include you are the only one for me and using his work functions as an opportunity to get laid has more than likely breached employment law .

The only person who thinks he can justify or condone that behaviour is David moulsdale but I think that there is something very messed up about a company run like this . Since Yous is being done in full view of employees and is therefore clearly not intended to be private but an accepted part of optical express culture David moulsdale does not I think have any cause for any of us to believe that he wishes this to be private .

David moulsdales optical business is in decline alongside a shrunk dental company with reviews from watchdog and called the worst optical chain by the which report and just put 83 stores into administration .
Doesn't scream success to me  - oh and I forget possibly  trying to tax dodge and ending up in a Multi million pound dispute with Hmrc ?! Really successful ?

Moulsdale would have up be extremely optimistic if he thinks his business  is being run well and that this us how world class business men make it .

There is feedback here about bullying etc - but high Kerr is not the guy who is preying in his employees in a manipulative and in my view abusive fashion . That's David moulsdale . In fact Hugh Kerr has spent years  out if the business and moulsdale brought him back !

Moulsdale is the problem in my view  and I think the ' get a life ' commentator was moulsdale himself .

Why are people's freedom of opinion being removed from them by the removal of things like the Facebook ex staff of optical exPress pages where I think it was nearly 200 people with mainly negative views and experiences of optical express And david moulsdale which has been removed from the Internet along with the thousands of ex employees who do not come here to back oe or moulsdale ?

Why is optical express so afraid of having an ex staff of optical express Facebook page in the Internet ?
Doesn't scream successful company to me.

If it bothers moulsdale that someone called ' Chang ' has dubbed moulsdale the ' jimmy saville  of the eye world ' maybe it is the reality check he needs he can't blame that on anyone but  himself because it is only due to his conduct which he is responsible and accountable for , in the meantime since he seemingly has chosen to subject his employees to viewing this kind of In my view clear disregard and disrespect for his workforce and the future of his business I think it is really sad that he thinks that the way forward in life is to have ex staff of oe facebook pages and comments on these forums like this removed .

It's time moulsdale learnt that life is not an easy street , there are no shortcuts in business and If you want success and respect you do have to earn it .
