I think there is a possibility that Moulsdale is going to sell Optical Express- if he can find a buyer.

How many stores have they closed at the moment? Is it all 83 in the subsidary or just the 40 that we hear about? Where I live quite a few OE stores are closed, signs taken down and all equipment taken back to head office. BUT I wonder whether some will reopen when the administrators are finished their work because few were doing ok? Can anyone give me their thoughts please....

OE have had 170 stores but are closing 40. That should leave them with 130 in total. Counting the number of stores they have in their website currently: England 54, Scotland 55, Northern Ireland 2 Wales 2 = 113. That leaves it 17 short of 130 stores. I would think they will reopen 17 of the currently closed stores once the administrators have finished their work. Since most of the ones that are closed at the moment are in England therefore the ones that will reopen will be the English ones.

I don't this that anybody will want to work for him!

I believe people have chosen not to speak openly  about David Moulsdale for way too long . It's been years .
In my opinion others are entitled to know about his attitude towards his employees  and business .

In my view its time we all try our best to avoid shopping with Optical Express and stop working for Optical Express and warn others to avoid optical express .

I also would advise the Royal Bank of Scotland that I believe this industry is tired  of having to deal with David Moulsdale and in my opinion they should consider this very seriously when considering lending moulsdale any more money .

Moulsdale can come pursue me all he likes .  I don't care as long as this message is heard .

Maybe I misunderstand your comment Ajoke, but David Moulsdale is not a surgeon!

If I worked for Optical Express I would be actively searching for another job. The writing is on the wall. His laser revenues are way down I reckon. No way all this negative publicity isn't affecting his business. I bet staff morale is at rock bottom. People must must leave and get out before Moulsdale takes them all down with him.

OE said only abt 100 would lose their job but having spoken to the staff the figure is close to several hundreds.

It's obviously all a pack of lies. From what I've read it is around 60+ closures and hundreds of people out of jobs.

How does moulsdale think hes going to manage when i reckon anyone with any decent skill and half a brain wont consider working for him if he was the last employer on the planet?

Been on holiday for last couple of weeks and it all seems to have been going on. The rumours of Moulsdale's struggles thankfully seem to be true. Got a feeling it's all about to hit the fan now! Moulsdale you reap what you sow you piece of scum.

@wondering LOL I was reading back through the posts of the last 2 weeks and you still think I'm an OE employee despite me doing nothing but criticise Moulsdale and having most of my posts on this forum deleted. Some thing never change you're still as paranoid as ever!

I recently had a procedure carried out by Optical Express and found the cost and the service i recieved first class. I came across this forum prior to my procedure and i do suppose it cast a shadow of doubt over should i proceed or not, but i am glad i did and would have no hesitation in recomending Optical Express.
I think you guys need to concentrate on what you are trying to achieve here, Optical Express is a business and sometimes businesses have to contract as well as grow and unfortuantly this results in job losses but this happens in every type of business and yes it has happened to me on 3 occassions, I was upset but these things are out of my control and i can only assume that the decision was made to keep the whole company from going under.
Also what does it matter what the owner of Optical Express gets up too in his own time, lying about his age....who cares, sleeping with female employees, probably happens at every staff night out of every company in the whole country and again ive seen it first hand...........
Nobody gets it right all of the  time, things go wrong from time to time thats life.......buy a new car breaks down on the first day shouldn't happen but it does......go into hospital for a simple operation, die on the operating table, shouldn't happen but sometimes it does.....
I think the important thing to remember people are still in employment in existing stores...if they dont like it then find a different job.....who can honestly say "i love my job" not very many i imagine, but hey we a;ll have to do it.

Hi there - since you are interested - Of the thousands of employees who have been working for optical express very few have come here to disagree with this or defend moulsdale .

I doubt you would be saying what you are if you had actually worked for moulsdale .

Finally - moulsdale may be keeping some people in jobs but the also is rumoured to have the lowest employee retention rate in the industry which I believe is a massive signal of the underlying issues .
Surely a world class market leader wouldn't have that problem ?

If you want to find out the truth why don't you write to your local MP asking him / her to write to Optical Express requesting  to know the exact number of employees who have brought various grievance procedures legally and otherwise against optical express and David moulsdale - just to satisfy your curiosity and to understand the nature of these complaints  .

I also recommend you may wish to conduct an anonymous survey of people within the optical industry to understand the true extent of the issues here .

I don't doubt that some people will have a great procedure at optical express , but surely a successful company getting it right with the majority of their customers wouldn't have just made I believe

He has no interest in the wellbeing of his workforce, which is why he abuses his position of trust as an employer to prey on and get involved with young females (employees) through lies , hires multiple bedrooms at his Optical Express Christmas parties and gets his PA to pick up for him. I think he therefore demonstrates his attitude towards the the duty of care he has towards his employees.

2. 15.In Personnel Today 2005 it was reported as follows

'Optical Express/The Dental Clinic has been accused of managing its staff badly and ignoring employment regulations. Personnel Today has received a letter from a source close to the company detailing a number of questionable employment practices - all of which have been denied by the management.'

3. He has no problem with lying to his potential customers, evidenced through the number of Advertising Standards Agency judgements against him.

4. he been reported in the papers to have affiliations with a well known scottish gangster.

5. He is so interested in the best standards of eye care that he (as Sasha said) has offered a government campaigner a bribe- in contravention to the bribery act and the law, not to campaign for government legislation in laser eye- surely the better option was to work with her?

He has no problem with removing feedback about him from the internet (eg this forum, ex staff of optical express facebook pages and wikipedia) so and trying to inimidate people to not be involved in saying anything negative about him- probably so he can drag more poeople into his fantasist life of no consequences.

Moulsdale doesnt seem to care about Optical Express because if he did he wouldnt put the brand image in jeopardy as he is now doing. .  He only seems to care about money and therefore it seems some customers who have struggled to get refunds and or compensation have written testimonies on opticalexpressruinedmylife.co.uk-

9. David Moulsdale doesnt seem to care about his employees,which is why people have commented here about their poor experiences of him and his company eg, 'escapee' , Optical Express  currently seem to be making store closures (ORMLinfo)

10. the Royal Bank of Scotland have recently 'supported' the appointment of Frank Blin previously of accountancy form Pricewaterhouse Coopers, to the board of the holding group of Optical Express. David Moulsdale has borrowed heavily from the Royal Bank of Scotland ( which has been bailed out by public funds) and it is my opinion that their 'support' of this appointment may indicate their lack of confidence in Moulsdale.

11. Someone anonymous  called 'ex' has written on this forum , insinuating that David Moulsdale is using drugs.It is rumoured previous to this that Moulsdale has been using cocaine according to 'speechless.'

12.There are comments on this forum suggesting people feel intimidated by Moulsdale eg .'bob etc'

13. Moulsdale has borrowed heavily from RBS which has been bailed out by taxpayers to run a business which has recently caused an 80 store subsidary go into administration and job losses, causing tensions with landlords as reported in the Telegraph

14. in 2007 Optical Express became engaged in a dispute with HMRC . This was over a disputed 10.9 million punds in taxes.

15.  Moulsdale has extracted millions from running Optical Express.

16. It is my view that moulsdale should consider stepping down from running Optical Express, sell and leave the industry.

Using and abusing including abuse of position of trust and negligent towards his legal duty to nOt act in this way unless you are moulsdale himself I'm  very surprised that you condone this . I don't know what companies you have been working for but clearly They can't have been much better than optical express and I think it's therefore quite ironic or should I say unsurprising that you ended up working for failing companies three times .
If it was you or your family working for optical express I believe you would not be so quick to make light of someone like david moulsdale who is in my opinion a dangerously manipulative and exploitative individual whom people do not deserve to deal with.
