It is Optus obviously as you can see from above comments. It is optus' marketing department that is calling you. They call basically to try find a way to bill you for more. Including cool enticements like a free phone etc.
Some offers are helpful/some not so.

They are very polite. Eg; if you answer & explain you wish not to talk, they politely accept.

However.....
It does not stop them from calling you again...& again..&again!!! I finally have had enough as they become a nusance. I received a call yesterday to which I AGAIN told them I did not wish to speak & to discontinue calling me. So today they tried calling again (not even 24hrs later).

Due to neglegence in the department & lack of communication between staff to prevent this, my situation was becoming a case of harrasment.

I contacted optus which fixed it immediatelly.

They sent a order to there marketing department to have my details removed from the calling list which will cease calls from ALL numbers the Marketing department calls from to "catch out" there targets.

So if you also wish to enjoy peace & quite & wish to only speak to optus when YOU have a querry. Follow the steps I took :-)

I've gotten the number calls 8 times today. When i Answer it hangs up.

Got the call from this number and they hung up on me.  Doesn't make any sense.  If they have my number on record and an automated system is ringing to see if I answer why not speak to me then and there rather than calling back?  One way to get your customers annoyed before you even try to sell them anything!

these annoying calls are from telemarketing call-centres who have been contracted by optus to annoy their customers in an attempt to suck our wallets dry... the people don't actually work at optus, just their call centres.  u can get rid of them by telling them explicitly to place you on a do-not-call list and getting the person's name.

got a call from this number today, i think i've gotten them before..I won't answer..

I just got a call from this number too. I picked up straight away and no one answered on the other end. The caller then hung up about 10 seconds later. Very strange

It's prolly one of Optus' outsourced telemarketers ICT.

Had an optus mobile for approx 3 weeks and had this number call me today. Thanks everyone for their comments - I have just registered for do not call.

I've had a couple of calls from them since buying my new mobile phone from Optus 2 weeks ago.   Now that I know who it is, I just added them to my contacts as OPTUS.  When phone rings and I see it 's them, I won't pick up.   That's all I can do for now.

Just had a call from this number. Have been with Optus for ~7 years. Contract expired about 6 months ago. I did make a double payment on my bill 2-3 weeks ago, so they might be calling about that (if there's actually anyone on the end of the line). But I certainly don't waste my time ever calling Optus back.

After someone answered the call whilst I was driving and was told "Optus will ring back". Dismantled the phone that night and on reboot next day an SMS
received offering me a win of a Kaziillion dollars in a lotto... just send your email and phone number.
Prompt to delete and say to myself...... "It's only money"

If this is in fact an Optus number- I haven't been a customer of theirs for about 6 years.
I figure if anyone wants to actually talk to me, they should leave a message.
How many times do you have to not answer for them to stop calling?

rack off Optus! if i want to change my phone arrangement I am perfectly capable of initiating contact!

rings everyday, never leavesa message and sometime 2 to 3 times. dont know the number so not answering, but is really annoying. I not with Optus whats up with that?

Chronic Friday 12-02-2010 couldn't stop ringing or so my missed-calls-log said after the phone was re-booted. Nice start to the weekend for me no -pickup on many dumb scam-calls....yeah

The gazillion or kazillion dollars win of mine again, they couldn't afford to pay the other million people who were sent the same message y/n?.....

I used to be an Optus Customer, but have changed carriers. I received a call from this number today, but no one spoke when I answered.
