at the start of 2010 customers around the Exeter area had their lines 'hacked'  crooks had placed premium rate phone calls from roadside cabinets.  the crooks the collect the revenue from the Networks(who take a cut)

Someone stole my phone and called this number and also 09828739995 charging my account ridiculous amounts. How do I block them?

TI somehow hacked into my phone and I got charged 6pound

I too have received a land-line phone bill with the number 09828739994 on it - with a high charge. The bill also shows 2 other numbers with premium rate numbers : 09092055520 & 09098600731 - all of them sex line numbers. I have contacted my phone company TalkTalk whose response was;
"I can confirm that all of our call data is checked and verified by both BT and Opal (our network) to ensure both the reliability and accuracy of the information provided. Please be aware that any call that is shown on your invoice has been made from your TalkTalk landline."
In other words they do not want to address the problem despite the fact that one of the numbers was responsible for over 500 complaints made to them in the Exeter area only a few months ago, which they duly investigated and consequently had to refund their customers the charges made !!
This now seems to be happening in the West London area...BEWARE!!

i too have had that number dialled from my phone twice or so it says, i have just called talktalk and they say that the call cant be traced just now cos the payfone plus or some such site is down. but i live in aberdeen, the other end of the uk from exeter, so whatever this is thats going on is nationwide so it seems i have been billed £15;34 for 2 calls at 3 mins each

I have just checked my e-bill and found this 09828739994 was called from my phone after midnight for 4mins with a bill of £8.43.  I rang the number and it says babes station.  I did not make this call and checking the website it says the call is charged at £1.50 per min but I was charged £8.43 for 4 mins. I am with talk talk, is this a common scam with talk talk lines then?

So how can customers get their money back as well as stop this from happening again?

I too have had nearly £10 of calls charged on my bill to that number, and no way was it called from my number. This was back in mid-May.

I have just checked my bill and been charged £6.75 for a 3 minute call suppose to be £4.50 at £1.50 a min how can this be?
Anyway no one in our home has called this number as it was made at 1.54 am and we would be in bed at that time, impossible!

I have just received a talktalk bill of £267. Never go over our usual £21 a month. I called talktalk who told me that the numbers were to sex entertainment lines and that somebody must have called them in my house without telling me!!! Bearing in mind i was the only person in the house and the calls were made throughtout 2 separate nights while i was asleep (2am to 5am) but they say that it is an itemised bill and every phonecall must have been made from our landline. Don't think i'm going to get anywhere with talktalk but if anyone has any ideas of how i could get the some money back it would be much appreciated. The only option they gave me was to put a premium rate block on the phone.

I wish to remain anonymous but I have been a sex chat line operator for Live Lines UK. Biggest bunch of bullies ever worked for. I am with a much nicer company now who treat you right. Didn't agree with Live Lines policy on the clairvoyant text chat service in that the customer was under the impression that they were getting a real live reading from a clairvoyant when really, it was just a bunch of operators reading down the screen what the other operators had put and what the customer had put. Same with the sex chat callers, they all just got spun a yarn thinking they were talking to one special person but you know, we all just shared. Also, they expect you to work a 6 hour night shift, say, 6am - noon on saturday or midnight - 6am starting sunday ending monday. DO NOT WORK FOR LIVE LINES. GO TO ANOTHER REPUTABLE COMPANY SUCH AS EXCEL TELEMEDIA LIMITED.
