I have just got my BT bill & it shows two calls to this number (09829323380). My wife & I definitely have not made these calls totalling £14.50 for 9 mins. I have asked BT to investigate and suggest you all do the same as this is according to BT an Adult Content line which charges a fortune. We are sure we were out at the time these calls were made and it is impossible for anyone else to have made them as the dogs cannot work the phone!!  But it seems if your answer phone is switched on the the number will charge you when the answer phone answers the call. Still waiting for an update from BT investigations Dept so I will update later.
    Hope this helps..

I have found on my Onetel bill one call to this number (09829323380) on 30th April at about 10pm, lasting exactly 4 minutes. I did not make this call. I was caught out by an internet dialler in about 2004 when on dialup internet, so I'm very sensitive about 09xxx numbers and other related telecom scams.

I was either in, or down the pub at the time. One thought is that my cordless phone was somehow hacked - be interested to know if Wommy has a cordless phone too.

I will submit complaints to Onetel/TalkTalk and to PhonePayPlus.

According to PhonePayPlus the number is owned by a company called Call Republic Limited. I tried to look at their address on Google Streetview, but the Google van looks like it was blocked by a delivery van parked in the middle of the road!

This number appeared on my recent BT usage 27/06/10 lasting 6mins and costing just over £9 at 12.25am. BT have advised they are unable to do anything about it until I am billed and charged and insisted that someone made the call from my phone and that their phone lines are secure. It's impossible that anyone could have made this call! My neighbour also has a call to this number on her recent usage on the same day. Both phones are not cordless but have the standard BT 1571 answerphone.

I am in Devon. I never use my landline - I have it just for my internet. Is there much hope of me getting my money back for this? If enough people query this in my area surely they can't charge us!

Have had 09829319990 and 09829323380 calls made from my phone when I certainly didn't make them. And now have to pay an extra £20 on my phone bill. Any ideas about these numbers?

I havent had any calls from this number, but it appeared on my bill - i rang BT and all they said was that this number was called from my landline and the charge is to stand. Im in Devon

    Devon again!
Point BT to this and tell them you have discovered this is not an isolated incidence and that it has happened in the past

Checked with a neighbour and they also have 09829319990 on their bill - they called BT while i was there with the call on loudspeaker and BT told them the same thing - the call was made from their phone and there is no way the line has been hacked - the charge is to stand. ive also rang BT again, asked to speak to complaints dept or someone in authority, was put on hold then the line went dead! Tried again was then told customer services deal with everything including complaints - explained the situation again, and got the same reply, they then had the audacity to ask if i satisfied with the service! I said 'no' !!
When will BT realise there is a problem??

BT has equipment called AIT (Artificially Inflated Traffic) that continually monitors their Network for strange billing patterns.  If only customers all from the same area of the country are finding these numbers on their bills then thy know damn well their Network has been hacked.

I've been studying Virgin Media customers from the London area

lots of complaints mention Oxygen8(aka Opera Telecom) 090 numbers

    watch and listen to this!

    Exeter, Pennsylvania area, Same here, 2 calls 1/5 & 20/5 £14.41
BTs initial investigations said that phone line is OK so its my bad luck !
Phone is a cordless BT freelance 1000 answerphone.
    (Broadband is via optic fibre.)

BT have now accepted (after another call & my insistance), that i did not make the calls & that the line was intercepted at either a street cabinet or at the exchange MDF.

(With my knowledge, as a ex-BT engineer, I would say that the calls were actually made, but by some person (unknown) & that BT was quite correct in initialy billing for them. However, as a result of this being a crime (theft of service), BT should recover their payment to the "premium rate" provider & refund the customer).

They have now blocked Premium rate numbers, refunded the charges & forwarded the info to the BT call investigation unit.

If you are off the Exeter Devon exchange, It might help to speak to Sally Gninham 0800800150 at the BT South Wales cust service team, quoting VOL 011-35286725447

I have also logged the theft with the Devon & Cornwall Police, Log No. 281- 6 July

    Hope this helps.

I made the second report above.

I am in Exeter, Kings Heath Estate (ie. near Digby and Tesco)

I am billed by Onetel, so I don't know whether BT will help me.

PS. I attempted to report my issue to BT using the above reference number provided by DiddyDave. They at least confirmed the reference number, but killed the call immediately after. I have had this sort of response from BT before!

Good result from Onetel/TalkTalk, they gave the money back straight away!

But as it happened, I also asked them to put Premium Rate blocking on the line, and it turned out I already had it - so the call was made despite the block!

That suggests to me a hack at the exchange and not of my cordless phone.

I'm going to put a report onto Consumer Action Group forums as well.

    r,

Add your reports to these places, and persist.

DiddyDave has apparently got Exeter Express and Echo interested.

So far we have tracked down about 20 victims including people in Clyst Heath, Kings Heath and Pennsylvannia in Exeter, Dawlish, and now Honiton.

I'm also in Clyst Heath - this time I'm with the Post Office rather than BT.

I also have a call logged on my account on 13th May costing £5.  Having called their customer "care" line they tell me that they've not heard of this one, and they will investigate and I should phone them back in a week,

I pointed them at various articles from Express & Echo.
