I got a call from 202-495-7170. Didn't pick up. This is second time I got a call.

Im with telus and I recieved a call from 202-495-7170 on my cell regarding my car insurance being cancelled.

smae number, called them back and pressed 1 for do not call list
are we all rogers customers?
block this # on your cell

They left no message to my Verizon blackberry cell.  Glad I ignored the call after reading these posts!

I am on Telus...in Canada. This credit card info scam arrived on both of my phones at 11:51am March9,2009, (from a female caller originating from phone# 202-495-7170 which is a few blocks away from the known location of obama's nasty hackers in Washington DC.  Hang up without saying a word & report it to the RCMP, maybe if enough complain we can shut them down. Do not respond by pushing any of the requested numbers they suggest on your phone pad.

How do we get them to stop?What good does reporting it here do?

Got a call 5 mins ago, didn't answer. I am from a very small town in Eastern Canada. These calls drive me nuts. It's like being a prisoner in your home with a phone. They call at meal times and late at night or even in mid afternoon....ugh!!!!

i'm from the U.S. and i too am being harassed by this number so they're not just attacking you

Hmm.  Well, it seems to me like everyone who has posted about this number thus far has only received calls on their cell phones.  However, I got a call today from this number on my home phone.  I don't know anyone in the US, and I wasn't home to pick up anyway.  Knowing now that this is yet another frigging telemarketer, I guess I won't be.  Isn't this what the damn do not call list was supposed to prevent?

call received on march 10/09 from 202 495 7170. no vm. caller from district of columbia ,washington.

I got a call from this number on my land line. There was no name on the caller id. I let the answering machine answer but the caller did not leave a message.

Call again from 202 495 7170 to my Vonage number that used to be a Rogers land line.

FYI If any of you registered with the Do NOT Call List there is a loop hole in the system. US companies are not bound by Canadian Law. All the US company has to do is give the Cdn Gov't 50 Bucks and they get a copy of all the Phone #'s on the Do Not Call List. So we all pretty much gave the US and Over Seas Telemarketers our Phone #'s

The  " reduce your interest rate calls", and alike, are sourced from Mutual Consolidated Savings, Tacoma, Washington.  It appears, that their agent is the same machine as "expired car warranty", and " a friend has entered your name, and you won a trip".  THEY DO NOT STOP CALLING, inspite of  DNC list or complaint to FTC.  They've called since Jan./08. I'm only one person. MCS's  number is 866-664-6131 , 253-320-7667 (listed as Verizon Wireless) 253-383-8780 (Quest Corp)  (not in service, maybe). Don't be shy.  Everyone may want to return their calls, as many times or more to a live person or answering machine off hours, to make sure they get the message. If you Google," auto warranty telemarketing", you'll see why they're targeting Ontario . It's  really big bucks.

I too just received this call, but on my home phone (Primus VOIP) and did not answer as I noticed the U.S area code.

In response to a few of the msg's above - Cell phone numbers have recently been released by phone companies and can be found on Canada 411, although they won't release a name, it will indicate that it is a cellular number assigned to XYZ carrier.

As for the Do Not Call list, all companies have access to this list both in the U.S. AND Canada as that is how they are supposed to figure out who they aren't supposed to call. So yeah HUGE loop hole. A lot of these companies are receiving the list with the expectation of updating their internal DNC lists, and they are actually adding the numbers to their database.

I really think the Gov't needs to take some action on this soon, it's quite ridiculous. There needs to be time restrictions on when they can call and how often. I'm just glad I can manually block numbers with Primus!! I like to forward these guys back to themselves!!
