Craigslist Vacation Rental Scam !!!

Ad would look like :  $50 / 2br - Apt of Reliaxation Vacation Rental (San Diego)/ (Chicago), etc

Names used: john thomas, Briliant Sparman [brietty10@gmail.com], thmsjohn28@gmail.com

They put up pretty pictures of an apartment on Craigslist & price it cheap at $50 or so. You transfer the money to them & they also send an agreement form.

Got looted $300 on a vacation rental. We were stranded at San Diego outside the rental vacation address which was locked out & belonged to someone else. I had to sleep in my car with my wife as it was a long weekend with all hotels sold out.

This person has an African (not Afro-american) english accent and called me from a Blocked number.
Next day morning he added me on Yahoo messenger and asked for more money through Western Union. He said he would give me the apartment key if I transferred another $300 to him to a person in Texas.

If you call this number it goes to a fax machine message.

We were about to rent a vacation rental in NY and thankfully we saw this blog, the apartment sounded to good to be true. he asks for a deposit to be transfered through western union to the owner of the apartment that lives in bay shore ny, and he goes by the name of robert williams as well.

I saw the ad on craigslist in nashville.  Almost fell for it!  Thank God I researched the phone number.  I have grown to love this website!

Has anyone contacted the police about these people?

DO NOT do anything with this person.  He steals money.  I lost money from this person.  Wired money for a rental that doesn't exist.  Don't make the same stupid mistake that I made.

I met this person on a Christian dating website, he seemed to be a nice person and we communicated for awhile.  I even was stupid enough to send him money because i thought he needed help.  I am sorry i did not look up this number earlier.  I am reporting him  to the website as a scammer.  He uses the name Sean J. Farrow and says he has children and his ex wife died. Dont be fooled like i was.

I guess I got scammed, this is a response from Craigslist in reference to childcare.

I gave him my address so, I should have done this to make sure it was not a fake one.
this is supposedly him responding to my email in reference to childcare.

same as yolanda...i too have been given the same email from craigslist...when he actually called me he had an accent and restricted phone number!

Can u tell me what happen with this Robert Huert, I relpied to a similar ad on craigslist onky he claims to be overseas he sent me check asking me to deduct my first weeks pay and the balance I'm to use to pay for his furniture delivery to his new apartment, prior to he and his family's arrival on Sept.1st, the check in fact did arrive, I have not cashed it yet, is this what happened to you?

Same scam tried today on listing for Boise townhouse on Craigslist. Same ad - same everything.

The person using this number now calls himself Scott Sinclair. He is running a vacation rental scam which we foolishly just fell into. Same MO as the other cases reported here. Asked for a western union transfer - we sent the money. I'm sick about it.

Wow I got the same email. The I looked him up on another website and he had posted another job opening after he told me I had the job.

oh my god, i just got the same email but he used a diff name...same exact body in the message though!!!

Same thing...on Sittercity scamming nannies.  I reported him.

Yes I just got the same email because I was also looking for a nanny job on Craigslist. After I had told him that I was interested in the job in an email, he wrote back an hour later with the exact same email except he changes his "arrival" dates. I started getting suspicious when he hired me without even meeting me and then immediately talking about money tranfering. Thank God for that gut feeling I just could not ignore!! This is what he wrote to me:

I will make arrangement for your first week payment in advance via paycheck because i wont be around till  6th of Dec.Thus, the payment has  include $1300 for delivery of our furniture.I want you to deduct $500 your fees for the first week and i will inform the furniture company  to contact you on phone or email in other to receive the fund from you as soon as you receive the check.I want you to help me handle  this because I wont be around by the time of delivery.
