We here at this business have been repetedly contacted by this number disrupting our day and preventing productivity.

Received a call from this number. The man knew our executive management team by first name. When i asked what it was he needed he went into a long-winded prepared speech about something. His accent was so heavy that I didn't understand a word he said. Caller ID said Providian Finance.

This guy is still at it.  He mentioned he was with someone (could have been Microsoft) saying I had viruses on the computer because of web browsing and was going to tell me how to remove them.  Very thick accent, I had a hard time understanding half of what he was saying.

I was thinking of staying on the line to try to find out what specific instructions he would give to open the computer up for attack but didn't want to deal with it so I hung up on him.

I'm flagging this as 'Prank' but a better classification is 'Scam'.

Yeah, I've gotten these calls too. I knew what it was immediately. I'm not an IT person, but I know enough that folk's computers don't send error messages to Microsoft all by themselves. I let him go through his script, then dropped the bomb that I have a MAC. All of a sudden, he worked for them too and I still had a virus. He wanted me to go to a web-site, blah blah blah. I pretended to do what he was asking, lied and said I was getting the spinning rainbow wheel of death. He was all happy and wanted to transfer me to his boss. His boss got on and tried to get me to pay for the help. I told him I was a liar, just like they were. He told me to go to hell and hung up. At the very least I kept them busy for a bit.

I've gotten a couple calls from this number. They hang up when you answer. Calling it back it says the number is out of service.

Keep calling here over and over. Leave no message. Called ID says Texas.

We have had 4 phone calls from this number in two days, always says he is from Microsoft and needs to fix our computer.  We hang up or say we do not have Microsoft but still the calls keep coming.

Two calls in the space of 5 minutes today (BOXING DAY). Didn't answer.

I just got the same call.

I get calls over and over through the day, at work, from (210) 280-8487.  If I answer, they hang up.  If I don't answer they don't leave a message.  I tried to call back and a recording comes on that says the number is disconnected.

I saw the number on my caller ID but they did not leave a message. The caller ID says "PROVIDIANFINANC". I just see the name "Providian" and I think SCUMBAGS.....

this caller from the same number called me once before and scared my not-so computer savvy mother. She thought there was a problem. Allowed them access to computer. Lucky, no major info was taken, but they crashed our computer some way. Then when we tried to call we got no answer from them. These people are a severe problem. Whether they are trying to scam people or due some type of info fraud. Stay away and when they call give them nothing. Best answer is to hang-up. Funny, thing they tried on two separate occasions then now my family KNOW BETTER.

Got a call from a woman with a VERY thick accent saying there was a problem with my computer; I couldn't understand what, the accent was so bad. When I told her I was a computer professional (true), she hung up.  I wished I had time to play along for awhile to get more info.

So thankful for this site. I already don't answer the phone (it's a pre-paid) for random local numbers, but it's annoying to get long distance ones that don't leave a message, or look at all familiar. Glad I can check here, then put the number on reject. Thanks all!

Got a call woman with Indian sounding accent said she was calling about my windows computer.  I asked if she was from microsoft and she said no, so I told her we are on the do not call list an if they called back I would report them.  Hopefully that is the end of them for us.

Call comes in and when answered it is a dial tone.

Received a call from this phone number today (1-210-280-8487), left no message.  Being from Texas, I called it & received the message, "this number has been disconnected & is no longer in service".  According to what I've read below, this is the old " I'm from Microsoft & you have a problem with your computer & need to go to our web site", so they can install a virus on your pc.  In the last 3 days, I've had calls from area codes in Florida, New York, & Georgia, all the same scam.  If I answer it, I tell these [***], either I don't have a computer, or don't run a Windows operating system, then ask how they got my phone number, which usually makes them hang-up; or tell them to put their head set where the sun doesn't shine.      

I believe Verizon is selling the names of it's customers.  I've had several calls that I don't answer but when I look up the number, Verizon is the carrier.

Don't count on the DNC list.  I've never heard of it helping anyone.

This number, 210-280-8487, called me yesterday trying to sell some kind of medical compensation service to my deceased mother. When I explained she died, he offered the service to me, asking if anyone I knew suffered from an injury after surgery. I told him I was absolutely not interested and wanted to be removed from the call list, we are on the DNC registry and do not accept unsolicited calls of this nature. The heavily-accented man dropped several F-bombs on me and hung up.

This morning, the same number called me once again. Upon answering, someone yelled something in another language and immediately hung up.
