Bah. How can there be a forum for things like this and no government or police department can do anything about it. If these callers keep pestering people the phone service providers should be allowed by law to disconnect their service.

I just received a call from these people and when I answered, they hung up. If they are legitimate, why would they? I resent having to stop what I am doing to check my caller ID just to find out it is a drug addict, felon who has access to me in any way what so ever. To be a telemarketer, there is no background or drug testing.

perhaps we need to look up the home addresses and phone numbers of these ones and call them at home at an inconvenient time.... let them all know we got out phone books....

Yeah?!  Well, I DIDN'T get a phone book, and, since NO ONE IS ON THE LINE when I pick up, there's no way to tell them that, is there?

Also, I'm ALREADY ON the 'do not call' list.  Fat lot of good it does me!

My number is on the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) national Do Not Call registry.

I received a call from this number - 303-280-8689 - on July 28, 2011.  My Caller ID displayed the letters "Product Dev Cor" and the telephone number.  It is likely a fake telephone number but that does not matter.

Some websites say it is a company that calls to verify if the resident got their phone books.  I did not get any questions and no one was on the line except a hissing sound that indicates the call originated outside my local calling area.  I report these, also.

EVERY TIME I receive an unwanted call such as this one I report it to the FTC using its online complaint format.  It doesn't matter if it is a fake number or not.  I provide the date, time of the call, what Caller ID displayed and the message if there was one.  I have decided to let the FTC know that people are tired of unwanted calls.

These companies/individuals know that most people will not bother to complain to the FTC - that is what they are relying on.  Thus, they stay under the FTC's radar.  Complaining at this website, other than identifying the caller and letting others know they are not unique, does little to stop the calls.

If more people would complain to the FTC and not just complain on this forum, the FTC WILL take action against these annoying callers.  The FTC does not act on one complaint alone.  It takes many complaints before they will take action - but they DO take action if enough citizens complain.

Called and did not bother to leave message. NO NAME displayed.

CALLED AGAIN - did not leave message - what is wrong with a PROPER company NAME AND NUMBER.

I'm from Vancouver Canada.  Got a call from this number at 10:18 PDT. It rang for about 5 sec and hanged off.  Call display indicates that this number is from Denver, CO.  According to other posts this number belongs to "Product Development Corporation (PDC) is a national distributor of telephone directories",  I don't understand why they call me in Canada. I don't have the curiosity to find out who they are.

These idiots called my unlisted number in Newmarket, ON this morning. No one was on the other end.

Just got a call from this number. They hung up on my answering machine. Oddly enough, if this IS about phone books, I got one yesterday, and promptly threw it away. I haven't looked anything up in a phone book in at least 10 years.

Do Not Call list is about as effective as our elected officials in Washington. Another "law of appeasement" as I call it. What's that you ask. Pass a law to appease the crybabies. Of course it has no teeth.

How do we stop thest annoying calls when we already subscribe to Do Not Call lists?
