- VirginiaCalled about renewing my Family Circle magazine - Family Circle did not have my hone number! So this is an unsolicited phone call.....I told her I do not conduct this type of business over the phone - that if I renew, I'll do it by mail. May not renew now that I know Family Circle has given my info to a teleservice company.
- Caller: Ebsco Teleservice
- privateCall two times a day since end of August. I DO WORK at night and hate being woke up by a phone in the morning.
GET a real job and use their phone skills to benefit society....whereever that may be in the world. I use my phone skills on my job everyday. Maybe then they could advance into something where they might learn that harrassing people DOESN'T BENEFIT anyone and certainly doesn't help with foreign country relations in the USA. If this is the only means for speaking with foreign I can understand the lack of respect for them when they talk ugly.- Caller: 330-492-2913

- DariusI worked for Ebsco Teleservices in Canton, Ohio, for several months in early summer 2009, and I can tell anybody exactly what the work environment is like, and exactly what you can expect to happen if you receive calls.
This particular division of Ebsco Industries is contracted by various publishers to handle their magazine renewals. Family Circle, Business Week, Ebony, Sewing, Police Magazine, Hot Rod, Field and Stream - these are only a few examples. There are literally hundreds of magazines for whom the company does work, and I'd expect that any publisher able to afford the service would do so, in order to maximize their profits. It's only intelligent.
All calls are placed through an automatic dialer and handled by individual people seated at computers, wearing headsets. As soon as the call connects, one is instructed to begin the pitch - this sometimes results in the recipient having already picked up, or being caught by an answering machine. We were instructed NOT to leave phone messages. If you don't answer, you WILL be receiving more calls. If you say something along the lines of "never call me again," I'm sorry to inform you that you're more than likely going to be called again. The ONLY way to prevent future calls is to ask the phone rep. to place you on the do-not-call list. That's it. Being on the national do-not-call list doesn't matter in this case, and mentioning it is a waste of breath - they are authorized to call you because of your prior relations with the magazine publisher, for whom they handle business transactions. We were told that it takes 24-48 hours for the system to process the removal of your entry from the system, and it is only in regard to that particular subscription - which is to say, if you have a subscription for Family Circle and another for Business Week, removing the one entry will not affect the other, being separate items and separate publications.
If you get a call you don't want, just keep your cool and ask that you be removed from the list. Or stop getting magazine subscriptions. No individual ever dials your number personally - it's all performed through a computer's automated dialer - unless they were in the middle of a business transaction with you and were disconnected. - JoThese people call every night and sometimes more than once per day. I had subscibed to a magazine from a local school and it ran out and I finally answered it due to curiosity and told them I wasn't interested in renewing. They were rude and hung up. The calls stopped for about four days and then restarted again. I AM on the 'do not call list' but am still getting these calls. I do not answer anymore. I'm getting irritated.
- AnnoyingI don't think these people should be allowed to stalk customers like this. It's ridiculous, I don't care if it's legal or not it shouldn't be legal to call someone everyday much less everyday 2-4 times a day. I guarantee I will think twice before placing a magazine subscription from now on! BTW I will be calling and ask to be removed, but why should I have to, if this was an x-boyfriend, I'd have legal grounds to press charges for stalking!
