Basically got this on my CC statement, instantly canceled the card and my CC company will investigate it.  With all the fraudulent charges, I'm hoping it's a cut and dry case and they re-imburse me.

I don't even have a PayPal account, but I have used it in the past...Damn.

This IS a REAL Pay Pal number.  If you have Fraudulent charges on your card from this number it is most likely NOT paypal's fault.  It is most likely a scam people are running and using this number a cover.  If you have a paypal account and you get a call from this number answer.  They should not ask any real personal information.  They are just verifying that you made a recent transaction.  I appreciate the extra step they are taking to protect me.  If you have unauthorized charges on your credit card/bank/debit accounts you need to check THOSE not paypal.

Got a call from this number today but i didn't pick it up.  I went on the internet to look up this number and found this.  I then logged to check on the bank accounts, credit card and paypal account.  Funny thing is when I pulled up the Help Center on Paypal to get their toll free number the listed contact number they have on their website for me ISN'T the number they called me on.

I had charges show up on my account from:

Do any of you out there know what Pactus is?

(There were other fraudulent charges, and my card has been deactivated, and am working with my local police on this.)

I just got my Discover Card with a charge to this number and I never received said call and paypal does not show any log in my ordering history of a purchase on 4/27/09, when this charge was posted. I am calling my card company about this charge and will not pay.

Go log-in to your credit card account online and look at the transactions. Most transactions done via PayPal will have this phone number in the transaction line.  If you get a call from this number, it IS legit.  But if you get a call from ANYONE asking you to give them PIN codes, card numbers, SSI numbers, etc, then DO NOT DO SO.  All PayPal will do is ask you to tell them if you did or did not make the charge.  Also you can call this number to report a dispute or ask questions, I think.

And if you're leaving comments here for someone to get back in touch with you about your card or charges made, this is not the place to do that.  Call your bank, credit card company or PayPal in person and talk with a CSR.

You don't have to have an actual PayPal account to charge something to your credit card for a seller who uses PayPal.  I just paid a guy for email advice on how to fix a dryer -- he has an appliance store and sells parts online.  

I paid his PayPal account using my VISA card.  This is the number on the transaction.  I called the number, 1-402-935-7733 and it connected to "Good Afternoon, you have reached PayPal Customer Service"...

The number IS legit..... your charge may not be legit, but this number IS PAYPAL.

I haven't received a call from this number, but I did order a 32GB flash drive (Kingston) from a company and this was the number on the transaction details.  I'm pissed because the flash drive is possibly corrupt and I looked up the info to find out how to contact this company.  If it's Paypal, I guess they won't reveal any other info to me.   Worth a try anyway..

I have Paypal as my merchant account/payment processor.  They called to verify a new account which was true, because I had just signed up.  Looks like a general number being shown for Paypal and not specific to any department.

Nonetheless, I also call Paypal and never take a call from anyone that says they are from Paypal just in case.

But Yes, this is a real Paypal number.  If they call, just call back on their customer service number listed on their site.

This is a scam.  The scammer hacked into my yahoo email account and began going to all of my financial institution websites (he saw the funds transfer confirmations in my inbox) and clicked on "forgot my password".  He was then able to answer the challenge questions by doing some online research on where I lived and who my parents were.  He then had a new password emailed to my yahoo account which he used to access my account.  Of course, he deleted these emails from my yahoo account and emptied the Trash folder so that when I woke up in the morning and accessed my yahoo account, all would look normal.  He was able to transfer funds out my savings account to a bogus Visa checkcard, as well as login to Paypal and transfer $200 to LUXUBOK with the 402-935-7733 phone number listed.  This guy or team of guys are really good.  Please go through all of the normal identity theft precautions, i.e. closing bank accounts and putting a fraud alert on  your credit report.  After about 5 days and 40 hours of phone calls, I think I may finally have this sorted.

I got a call from this number, the caller told me someone had just tried to buy a Samsung computer using my paypal account.  I told him it wasn't me, then he asked if I was at a place where I could log on to my paypal account, that is when I told him "NO, and don't call me again!" and I hung up.

This number called us with no name. We did not answer call. There is no charge on our account. We do not answer calls with no name listed. They called our cell phone as well. ON A SUNDAY! Noone does business at 1:16pm on a sunday phone wise lol.

PayPal is a very reputable business, which handles the monies received for eBay purchases.  This is who you pay the amount of your winnings from purchases in eBay.  Then PayPal pay the owner (Sellers) where you bought the items from.  So on and so on, it is very easy to use.  eBay is not the only site that uses PayPal.  Lots of Auction Sites use PayPal, almost any business you can think of uses PayPal.  If you take a look you will notice when they give you choices of how to pay, PayPal will be listed there.  It makes it handy to use PayPal rather then passing out you credit card information for items you buy.  It is nice to know that only PayPal has your personal infomation and that your credit card information will be kept safe with them.

If the buyers out there, who do not use PayPal now, learns to trust PayPal and uses them any time that you want to buy anything on the internet.

Same deal. I have a 47 dollar charge that's unexplainable. I've used paypal maybe three times in the last 7 years. I need to make a phone call tomorrow and see what's up. I'm sorry, yet glad, to know it's not just me. Hopefully that means something can be done about it.

An unauthorized transaction showed up on my bill when I checked it and it says "PAYPAL*HOSTGATOR US" . I immediately called my bank and canceled my card.
