- MeredithCall supposedly from Citibank. I said I could t talk right now, and he asked if it were possible for me to use call back and if I had the number. Obvious indicator to me that they didn’t want me to actually call Citibank but their line instead.

- CharlieWoman with a thick accent looking for my wife (by name), though this phone should never be associated with her. She asked me to have my wife call back and give reference number 1509. Didn't leave a callback number (this number on caller-ID). Also, the third time I asked her what this was about (because I could not parse her answer), she spelled it out: Sears - "C - E - A - R - S". :-)

- LAThis number called today claiming to be from a bank in Tennessee who wanted to verify my information. They knew that I had a fraud alert and asked if I requested for credit to purchase furniture. After I told her no, She stated that I was a victim of identity theft and was sending a letter to the credit bureaus. She also stated that the inquiry would be removed from my credit and a letter from the credit bureau would be mailed out. Then she asked to verify my mailing address.

- Beans75Got a call from someone with a very thick accent claiming to be from the fraud detection center. He said his name was Jim and left the message for my dad. What??? I'm my dad's attorney-in-fact and I know FOR A FACT that he doesn't have an account with Citi Bank and never has had one. These scammers are getting scary as to how they get people's names and phone numbers. I'll have to call Citi now and make sure there are no accounts opened in my dad's name. Super weird.

- HollyLady with a heavy accent called saying there was an application in my name with citi bank. I told her I didn't apply for a card and that it'd have be a fraudulent application. She said in order to send it to their fraud dept, she needed my birthdate. I told her that's not how it works as I have an alert with the credit bureaus to not approve any applications and that the way it works is that they don't approve period and that I don't give my birthdate out over the phone. This was obviously a scammer.

- Deb JamesA guy with a very thick foreign accent called and left a message saying his name is Tom from CitiBank. Supposedly they had received an application in my husband's name. Funny enough though they called my number so that alone set of warning bells. He left an application number and reference number that my husband was supposed to have on hand when he called. You can click on the call back number in the message and that number is 866-272-0334. I didn't pay real close attention to the actual numbers in the phone number, I just clicked it. A female with a foreign accent answered and says it's Home Depot. She preferred to speak to my husband, but he wasn't home and I said well somebody called my number. Supposedly she looks up both of our names and did not find any accounts under either our names. I gave her no other extra info, but told her I had this application and reference number. At first, she sounded like oh good, give me the numbers, but then she rattles off a phone number that I should call and they can investigate it further. I wrote the number down, said thanks and we hung up. As I'm going to end the call, I notice the number that I just wrote down is exactly the same as I had already called. I dialed it again to see what would happen. Somebody started to answer, but suddenly hung up. Something needs to be done to stop these people. Luckily, I have Experian that monitors my credit.
