They called me at 7:30am and 10:00am and I did not answer.  I looked up the phone number online and found many accounts of this not being a legitimate phone number for Wells Fargo.
I called them back and demanded to know why they were calling me waking me up on my vacation and that I do not have a Wells Fargo credit card.  I told them to take me off the list of whatever scam they are running.  She said she needed to talk to her 'security officer' or something like that.  She came back on the phone and asked for my phone number (wouldn't the real Wells Fargo have caller ID?) and my name.
Well!  Guess what!!!  They just called me again two hours later.  Ridiculous!

It's a scam. No bank will ask you for your full ssn, EVER, or ask you for your full account number! I've gotten plenty of calls from them and I make them nervous everytime. I've filed a complaint with my city's attorney's office.  They will place the number in a list and investigate them.  You should all do that.

    Re: Dida
Not true, Dida. I work for a bank and we ask for full numbers.  However, different departments have different procedures, so some parts may not need a full number.

However, it's smart thinking to not just give out those numbers to anyone calling you.

What they should tell you, if they're legitimate, is how to verify them. Either by going physically to a branch office, calling the number on the back of your ATM or credit card, or going to their public web site to verify the number. If they're really with the bank they won't have a problem with you calling back once you're sure it's them.

So, this has been going on since at least Aug 1, 2007... why are they still operating? Is it that hard to clamp down on phishing?

I talked to a representative at Wells Fargo (Credit Card department) who told me that, yes, Wells Fargo does use 503 numbers. This after I had talked to two other representatives, one of whom told me that WF only uses 800/866/888 numbers, the other (in the Fraud department!) just wasn't sure if this would be a legitimate number. Clearly, WF doesn't have it's sh*t together.

It's not exactly scam/phishing. They called me today and I didn't answer but after reading here I looked online at my account and my WF Visa payment WAS overdue. I suspect it's just one of those automated calls to advise you of something (in my case an overdue payment) but the live people who answer when you call back probably don't know anything.

My card is not past due.  In fact, my mortgage is through Wells Fargo and it is NOT past due either.  I don't even bother answering the calls... if it's important, they'll leave a message.  Believe me, if you're past due, you'll get a message...

Frustrating to say the least! The last one-machine picks up,then hangs up. Never a message. If I owe money to someone, give the courtesy of saying who you are!

I know this ain't Wells Fargo, I get my statements via email only and so the bank does not call me. So this is obviously not the bank calling.

This number was calling me over and over today, when I called it back the representative was polite when I told him I wasn't comfortable giving out my information to him. He told me I could call the number on the back of my credit card, which I did. My credit card payment WAS one day overdue. The automated voice and the hold music for the 1800 number and 5034032674 were the same. I think it's legitimate, but call the number on the back of your credit card to be safe.

It is not Wells Fargo Bank - it is Wells Fargo Financial - I got called by 503-403-2674 about six times today and I went to the Wells Fargo web page and called their customer service number.  They told me that this number was probably fraud but to call the credit card/Finanical/Loan Departmeent.  I called them 800-642-4720.  I spoke with a representative and he stated that the 503 number is their collection department and the sould leave you with the correct number.
