l called Wells Fargo and asked them if this was a call from them and they said this number was is no way associated with them for any reason.  They said to always be wary of calls that answer with a recorded message.  Especially when a recorded message asks for your account number.  I receive up to 7 calls per day from this number.

So, I read through most of these posts most of you had me thinking I was about to be scammed.  That was not the case.  There is way too much mis-information on this phone number.  What is worse, I bet most of you didn't even try to figure out what this was.  It angers me when people pass false information based on ignorance and fear.  Verify before you paste your message on the internet.

The number 503-403-2674 is Wells Fargo Credit.
Anyone can call that and prove it to themselves instead of accusing me and this post of being "part of the scam"..

Yes, I got the calls to my cell phone. Since they didn't leave message, I called them back.  If it was a scam, the number would not have worked.

The Well's Fargo person who answered asked for an individual who I had never heard of.  That person by accident/on purpose gave my cell phone # and tied to their credit account.  When I told the Well's Fargo lady I was not the person they were looking for, they deleted my phone number off of that person's records.

I am surprised to not see more posts like mine (i.e. this is a legit business looking to collect from someone) and instead read "it's probably a scam" or "Well's needs to do better with their security"... It took about 2 minutes to call them and clear this up and the call's stopped.  I didn't give them any information about me other than I am a Bank of America customer and they apologized.

I am a project manager at Cisco and not involved in any way with Well's Fargo.

I have starting receiving these calls. One yesterday and one today. They do not leave a message so I won't call them back. It is not Wells Fargo, they always leave a message if it is from them.

    Don't call them back then.
I did, and it was Wells Fargo, or at least that is how they answered the phone.
I am not telling you what to do.

Wells Fargo said this is not from them. To not give them any information. Nice try! It is a scam!

I received 10 calls in two days, with an automated voice message asking for my ex wife.  I called the legitimate Wells Fargo number, and they told me it was a scam.

Then the fun part:  I called the 503 number back and got the "Welcome to Wells Fargo" message.  When a human came on, he immediately asked for my credit card number.  I told him, "You called me, why not tell me what the account number is?"  "We don't give out that information over the phone" was his response.  Really!!.  However, he could accept my social security number so he could look up the account.  I messed with him for another few minutes until he finally hung up on me.

I called the number 10 minutes later and spoke to another "Wells Fargo" representative who wanted all the same info as guy #1.  This one told me they have 3 seperate collection centers - one in Portland, one in Iowa and one in Salt Lake City. She lasted a little longer than the first one, but still hung up on me.

I have no idea if my ex wife is late on her credit card or not, but this was just too "phishy" to give out ANY information.

No calls today, so it must have worked.

I have been getting these calls for weeks asking for "Carmen Angel" which is not my name, nor do I have a Wells Fargo account. I thought it was fishy/phishy the first time when I answered and it said "if you are not Carmen Angel press 4" and then it gave me another phone number to call, which I did not do. Also, if you press 0 it never takes you to an operator. Today I finally called the number back and got to a real person by saying I was Carmen and didn't know my account number, then I told the woman in a mean voice not to call my number again and I was not Carmen Angel and didn't know her. I hope it works. But seriously a real bank will never ask you for your account number, they will ask you for a predetermined security question, the last 4 digits of your social, or some other identifier because, as the smarter people have already pointed out, your bank already has your account number, they need to verify you are you in some other way.

If you are getting a call from this number it is because you or someone that used your number is past due on their credit card payment with Wells Fargo.  It is legitimate and they do not ask you for your account number...just your phone #.  They have hundreds of reps and of course they don't know who you are.  This is not a scam it is a legitimate business trying to collect on past due credit card debts.  Answer the phone!

Like several other people here I do NOT have wells fargo, I do not own a credit card, let alone have CC debt. It's a scam. They called me 6 times Friday, 5 times Saturday and so far 4 times today (Sunday)
Is it normal for Wells Fargo to harass people if they are late in paying?

got this number as well, but they asked for a specific name.  Called back and told them to get this phone number off their lists.  I think they try various phone number to try to reach a person they can't find (variations on a number they have listed) and if it's not them, they just take that number off their list (I hope).  I didn't have to give my name so there hopefully shouldn't be any more calls requesting me.

Just so you know, it's a Wells Fargo number. They don't leave a message because they're calling about a debt and it's a sensitive nature. They use an auto-dialer so if you answer sometimes it doesn't connect right away. Pay your bills or answer the phone to make arrangements. To those who think it's a scam: they never ask for personal info, so that wouldn't make sense. They just want to know when you'll be paying!

First of all, you have to give them the number they're dialing... you can't just use a "mean voice." It's a call center and they have no idea who you are when you call in or reach a rep. They ask for a social or an account number to look up your information, but they can also search a telephone number to remove it.
