Just got a call from this number.... I THINK it was a real person, but when I kept telling him no, and not to call... he just kept on talking.  Was he real or not?

I am quite irritated that some [***] thinks it's OK to call peoples cell phones.  He assured me that they would cover any cost of the phone call.... yeah right.... I just hung up on him/it.

    Upset Caller From Nebraska
Around 1:50 p.m. central time, in Nebraska, I got a call from 5052471942 out of Albuquerque, NM. I never answer these calls because they call my cell phone which is on the Alltel Network, which as many know is now a company that Verizon Wireless has bought. This is the eighth time my family & I have recieved this abuse from these a**holes, and to be frank "Kids First" is all a bunch of bullsh*t. It's a complete SCAM and my family & I are absolutely disgusted that our cell phone companies are now seeling our numbers to these evil telemarketers. They seriously need to get a life. Enough said.

I have recieved an viewed the movies that were sent and my grandchildren seem to enjoy them.  The 4 year old and 3 year old loved the ones about the bunnies.  The older children 7 years, and 8 years, enjoyed the mystery one.  The content was very good, and the main part was the vaulues taught in the films.

Yeah, they (Kids First) called me, too. Luckily, home phone and not cell, so maybe they (cell phone company) haven't sold us out yet. Guy asked if he could send me a DVD with two movies to review and he'd call back to survey my opinions. OK, did so. He called back in two weeks and asked some survey questions, which I answered, then he started into a sales pitch about sending more on a regular basis at $12.98 each. I told him, "Whoa! I answered your set 'survey' questions, now let me tell you my own opinions." I told him the truth, that the plots were predictable, the conclusions inevitable, and that I couldn't imagine any of today's youngsters sitting still all the way through one. Furthermore, I'm nearing retirement, my youngest is 32 years old, and I have no interest in such entertainment. At this point the illusion stripped away, as he kept right on pounding away at his script. I finally just said, "Hey, I tried to be polite," and hung up on him.

If they call, save yourself the hassle and just hang up the first time.

"Jesse" called during school asking to do a survey about movie dvd's. I hung up. Now I keep calling back but nothing but "Thank you for calling customer service. Your call is very important to us" and tells me to wait for the next available customer service phone answerer. Then just silence

You can contact all their sponsors at their website at kidsfirst.org and let them know about the way they call folks. But more importantly you should file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office in New Mexico where they are headquartered and with your own State Attorney General's Office. Washington State is already looking into this. Some key points here is that they don't identify who they are with, they call from all parts of the nation with different area codes. They must be using telemarketers and some states have a problem with automatic dialers and telemarketers. John the guy who calls is a pre-recorded message. The VP of Kidsfirst says that someone listens in the conversation and pushes buttons for responses to your questions. Very odd and it may really be voice activated for all we know. They pretend to be getting reviews but actually they are a marketing arm for movie distributors with the intent to sell you the movie you review much like a try it out before you buy. With their non profit status they are avoiding having to go by federal regulations of the Do Not Call registry. Are they paying their fair share of taxes if in fact they are really telemarketers under the non-profit vail?

I know that group and this is what I know of them: KIDS FIRST! Cares is a program of the Coalition for Quality Children’s Media. The Coalition is a national, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1991 whose mission is to teach children critical viewing skills and to increase the visibility and availability of quality children’s media.

KIDS FIRST! Cares is part of the Coalition's ongoing research about media and children which has two components. The first is to identify people who are actively using children's media products and to ascertain qualities they look for in these products. The second is to inform the public about KIDS FIRST! and its resources that are available to them.

To accomplish this, KIDS FIRST! Cares is making calls to families and inviting them to participate as an evaluator of films. They are sent two films, totally free of charge. A second call is made within the next three weeks and the adult family member is asked three simple questions about their film evaluation.
KIDS FIRST! complies with all state and federal no-call laws.  While each law is unique, KIDS FIRST! is exempt from many provisions found in no-call laws because (a) KIDS FIRST! is a charity, or (b) the purpose of the call is to enlist movie juror members and not to sell a movie. They domaintain a Do Not Call Registry and will place anyone on this list at their request.

The call is brief, no more than 30 seconds, unless the caller requests more information. A live operator places each call using a unique scripting software program that allows the caller to speak to the customer using his voice or by using pre-recorded script segments.  For example, the caller may select a pre-recorded script segment to introduce KIDS FIRST! to the person called and then she listens for a response.  To reply, the caller may play another appropriate pre-recorded scripted segment or she may chose to speak directly with the customer.  At any time, the caller may speak directly with customer if there is no appropriate prerecorded response.  This system greatly enhances quality control by discouraging the caller from misinforming, misleading or deviating from the script. The numbers called are selected at random.

2006 new releaseCompany selling films will pay $70,000 over No Call complaints in agreement obtained by Nixon

St. Louis, Mo. — Two companies that market and sell films will pay $70,000 to the state of Missouri and develop a detailed plan to ensure future compliance with the state's No Call law according to a settlement secured today by Attorney General Jay Nixon.

The assurance of voluntary compliance, filed today in St.Louis City Circuit Court, was the result of a lawsuit Nixon filed in March against Feature Films For Families Inc. of Murray, Utah, and the Dove Foundation of Grand Rapids, Mich., alleging the companies conspired in a scheme to evade state No Call laws. Telemarketers from the Dove Foundation claimed its status as a charitable organization provided them with an exemption to the Missouri No Call law. In reality, the Dove Foundation was using that status to solicit sales for Feature Films For Families, a for-profit organization that sells DVDs and videos. The Attorney General's No Call unit recovered almost 300 complaints about the calls.

“Companies such as these that look for new ways to circumvent our No Call law are another illustration of how effective our Missouri law is,” Nixon said. “We always have been, and will continue to be, vigilant in protecting Missouri's consumers from unwanted telemarketers and will swiftly take action when there is a violation of the law.”

According to the agreement, the Dove Foundation and Feature Films For Families must pay $70,000 to the state Merchandising Practices Revolving Fund and obey all merchandising practices and No Call laws in the future. The respondents must also provide the Attorney General's Office with a detailed plan of practices and procedures they will implement in their businesses to ensure compliance with the state No Call law. They have also agreed to subscribe to, and remain current with, the Missouri No Call database.

Any future violation of the agreement by the respondents could result in contempt of court proceedings and civil penalties of up to $2,000 per violation.
