They do not necessarily get your phone number from anyone they can just run known batches of numbes through a computer program.  Cell phone companies are mostly locked into using a set first 3 numbers in a given area such as 887 or 886 and then the software dials 887-0000 to 887-9999.  Automated dialing process.

I just got a call from this number about 10 mins ago (in Calgary)..... I am not sure how they got my cell number either..... Its bad enough they call your home number - but now cell numbers too!

Got the call 2 mins ago, didn't pick up, no message left of course.

Just to provide some insight, having worked in "the industry" for years, it would be highly illegal for any company, telecommunication or otherwise, to share your personal information for any reason other than legal proceedings, without your prior consent.  They don't do this.  However, as previously mentioned, there are dialing systems that will simply go through an entire line range, ie: 999-0000, 999-0001, etc ad nauseum.

Also, consider that unless you've had the same phone number for many, many years, or happen to be on a brand new line range, someone else used to have your phone number.  A telemarketing firm will never throw away an active phone number.  This is a common explanation for unsolicited calls.

Just got a call on my cell - but didn't answer - anyway of blocking this type of crap

Got the call on both my cell and my home phone which have the same last four digits (like lots of cell companies offer now).

DEFINITELY not a list being sold, just an auto-dialer.  That makes it worse.

What NEEDS to be available is a system where you can track - similar to IP's via the internet - the route that a phone call takes to get to you.  Track this back to either the original number or it's provider and give their provider hell for allowing them to do this.  Enough complaints will drive most companies to cut their losses.  Especially when they're sales / support is tied up dealing with people complaining about this company / individual instead of selling their services or supporting their clients.

Got this on both land line and cell phone within 10 minutes of each other, never answered cell, voice mail on land line.

F***in Rogers is selling our info.I got the same call on my Fido cell and 2 hours later on my home phone.

Just got this call here in Manitoba. it was no number i recognized so did not answer.

This call was to my land line.

This number keeps calling my cel but if I try to call it back it says that it is not in service. I am refusing to pick it up as it costs me minutes. Anyone know who this is?

today they called my work phone, home phone and cell phone. within a couple of hours.
Message says you've won xxx travel dollars press 1 to accept.
there should be a law against this.

It seems as if they are dialing all Winnipeg numbers today judging from the last few trends!  I just got one about an hour ago.

I'm at home here in AZ, but I do have a Winnipeg number that is forwarded to me.  Got it on my VoIP line, would cost them a bundle to dial my cell, LOL.
