Since time is money for these Yahoos, if these folks continue to call simply answer the phone and place it down and return to what you were doing. This ties up their "students" with dead air. They will eventually hang up with no information/interaction from you. They lose, you win.

Just because I have a phone, doesn't mean I wish to hear from you. My phone is for MY convenience. To those with whom I wish to communicate, I share the number. You're just randomly calling a great number of people, eating up their cell phone minutes, racking up their phone bills and making a general nuisance of yourself. NOBODY wants to be harassed by sales vultures in their home, on their personal time. Your rudeness and ignorance in the comments you felt compelled to express only reinforces the negative impact of this intrusion. Do NOT tell people that dealing with the likes of you is the consequence of owning a phone. That's definitely not in any phone plan, or on any wish list.

This clown posting on their behalf is an idiot, they just called my phone at 1 pm, I answered first ring, they said nothing, I kept saying hello, no. Response, tried to call them back, they just hang up, [***], I am napping, I work hard, its my day off, I am an autotheft investigator so turning my phone off and or noot answeriing is not an option, how about this, instead of rationalizing calling randon numbers and not repsonding when they answer, how about you just apologize for bothering people. Egotistical prick. And if somebody wants to file a complaint, they have to call the police so its documented, yeah they are busy, yeah they have bad bad people to chase, but phone harrassment is a crime and needs to be reported, so shut your mouth and quit chastizing that poor old woman for doing what she needs to do you ignorant self centere know it alls. This is America, we have rights, I think, maybe.

The organization that is calling you will not get ths message.  These companies buy there lists from many sources, one being from another company that mines the internet for data, like a coal miner mines the earth for coal.  You actually inadvertently made the situation worse by posting your phone number.  An automatic web crawler will process this page and harvest these numbers to sell.  Never post personal information on the Internet or in your emails.

You can sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov to get removed from most calling lists permanently.  It may take up to 31 days to take effect.  Then you can file Federal complaints with donotcall.gov.  In some states, such as California, if you tell a caller to take you off their list and then they continue to call back, you can take them to small claims court (no lawyers aloud) and receive $500 per incident (call).  It helps to have evidence, such as  answering machine recordings of the calls.

There are also registries for real-world mail marketing.  Be sure to sign up for every variation of your name.
    http://www.directmail.com/directory/mail_preference/
    donotmail.org

All the above registries don't cover you if you are doing business with the organization.  For example if you have an account at Citibank, you need to pay attention to their privacy policy and indicate that you do not want marketing calls or mailings.

    Hope this helps.

Do Not Call Lists are ONLY for telemarketers... c'mon. Read SOMETHING along this thread. If they are conducing market research, that list doesn't apply. So no, you can't sue them because they've called and you're on "the list". Not the same one.. It's really simple, just tell them you want to be removed from their list. I did, and they have never called back. These people aren't malicious, just doing their job. You're probably wasting *their* time by not just getting to the point with the company when they cll. pick up your phone. Politely ask to be removed from their lists. Done.

A very smart comment. replies to tired and sick
Ahaha! Telephone harassment is when someone uses the telephone to intimidate someone else. I'm pretty sure being called and asked to participate in an optional survey where they will remove you from their call-list if you ask, is not called intimation. Grow up.

Uh-huh, until they call you back as they reported the phone call an incomplete. Or... you could just grow up and ask them to take you off their list? Are you a nine year old?

Well sir, your "daughter" is either a liar, or isn't worth her university education. How do you think business like this one must run? They obviously have to follow protocol and meet certain quotas. Do you really think upper management would spend their day making prank phone calls? How would they operate. I can't tell if your entire post was a joke or not, and whether to chastise you or feel sorry for you ignorance. Think logically- what stupid observations to make..
