LOL. NOT! They are bottom of the ocean rock scum. Minimum wage earning individuals that believe because they wear a button up shirt from the dollar store, they are better than everyone.
Contrary to your opinion, some alleged debts are in fact false. At other times, the people involved have legitimate reasons they were unable to pay and have made at least one (if not several) honest attempts to work with the creditor to eliminate the issue with negative results on the part of said creditor.
Use of forceful, annoying, rude and often illegal tactics are the common MO for these individuals.
To the public (of which over 94% is in debt and in or on the verge of collections) I say, READ THE FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT and use it against any underhanded attempts by these "collection specialists".
Take them all the way to court, get your damages and the additional $1000 PER INCIDENT it allows for and use that to help pay any legitimate bills you may have. In other words, instead of letting them scare you and work against you, let these geniuses work FOR you.

TIcked and tired replies to John
When we got our new landline phone number we started getting calls for four different names. When I get tired of it I call and they say they will remove my number from their data base. Looks as if unpaid debts are sold over and over again.  Think this must be the 5th or 6th time. Anyway, another thing I learned, a call center may have more than one phone number sooooooo the might remove the number from one number but not the others assigned to the call center.  It appears that asking them to have the number removed from their data base works best.  The Call centers, need realize that doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results i very very crazy and unporductive. But hey they don't

Well, they call me everyday, and I sit at home while my dad's at work, so you can guess how annoying it is to have to keep answering the phone. -_-
Anyways, I've already recorded their calls plenty of times.
Tell them to give a Name, Number, Who they work for, address, etc. Then tell them that you are recording the call, which is what you should do. If they DEMAND to talk to anyone, don't let them. They usually demand me to give my father the phone. Usually, the same person doesn't call back, because they think if it's someone else, I'll let them talk to him. I tell them I'm his daughter, and I want to know the information for myself or they can't talk to him. They still demand.
There was one call, and I'm keeping this one to turn into the Attorney General's office, where they actually threatened me. There was another one, while I was gone, that my dad didn't record for me, but they threatened my father and a lot of stuff.
Make sure you record the call, and you demand THEM, they don't demand you. If they threaten you, keep the recording, and turn it in, if it happens again.

Threatened to kill you? While I was gone, my dad told me they threatened to kick his ass, so my dad said,
"Go ahead. I'm one of those RICH ranchers down here in Texas. I already know where you're located, so I can hop on a plane tomorrow, and I'll be down there to kick YOUR ass."

Sorry. Since I saw what you said, I noticed that it was similar to my dad's.

I was called by Bob Burbanks, with "Client Services", return ph# 866-798-2078, called about my Target account.
He stated that they wouldn't work with any debt settlement company. He wouldn't take their name or phone number either.

    He was very rude.

I started getting calls from this number this morning before 8 AM on my cell phone and since I had no idea who it was I was going to let it got to voice mail, they did not leave a message.  After 10 minutes they called again and every 10 minutes there after until noon, but would not leave a message.  After I looked up this website and tried to answer their call, they hung up and would not talk and have not called back.  What the hell???   I should have no collections or over due debts.  Are they just bored?
