    tired of this
    Received my 1st call just now (didn't answer & no msg left) & have been reading the comments, so helpful! I've had my cell # for years, and started getting collection calls last year from various places, looking for people with various names (none are me). Some have said I'm 'required' to notify them if they've called the wrong number, excuse me? I have no debt that's in collections... Some msgs have threatened lawsuits (2 in the state of Texas), where they're giving phony case #s, and incorrectly announce "you have been served" - a voicemail msg is NOT legal serice or notice. Will wait to see if I get more calls, and if so will report them to the FCC (a lot more help than the Do Not Call list, they'll follow up). Thanks for putting helpful info out there for the rest of us.

    Thank you for the website "tip", but IF we had the "$1000 per lawsuit" we would probably have the $$$ to just pay off the debt in the first place, wouldn't we?  What was I missing? That procedure sounds like a scam to me, sorry to say???

    Yes, they sound like a collection agency.  You might try to contact the original debtor, and ask them if you can work out a payment payment plan.  If you are having a financial hardship, explain that too.  Sometimes they can/will work things out for you when you explain your circumstances.

    Dont do anything yet. Wait for them to sue you. Then take a layer and let the layer handle it.
    I just got sued, and my layer took care of it. It saved me $3000.

    Trying my best
    They call and call without leaving a message. So I finnally was at a moment in my day where I could pick up the phone. They put me on hold. When they got back on I told them I could only speak with them for ten minutes because they had me on hold for so long. I was then told that I was going to be sued and garnish my wages.

    Thank you for your post! These thugs are frightening many innocent people out there and your post is a heartening change from all of the confusion!
    My identity was stolen but of course THIS guy or his employees wouldn't care, so I don't answer when they call, which they DO on a daily basis.
    I hope you do not mind my using your post on my OWN post- just to reassure people that these people ARE NOT all powerful and that there IS hope.....

    My identity was stolen and obviously MANY credit cards I am unaware of are doubtlessly floating around, UNPAID.
    I'm certain this Michael Spector of Client Services Inc. has purchased the Amazon account I never applied for and didn't know I owed over $2000 in payments and interest to back in 2014, THAT showed up on one of my credit reports, the others are proving more elusive....
    However, I came across a post by 'T', who posted on this site some time ago.
    In fact, I attempted to reply to mr. T's post, but accidentally replied to the post below his...
    SO, I am pasting 'T's' post BELOW, and hoping s/he does not mind my plagiarism:

    "As stated above, this is a collection agency. You do not have to deal with these people. The company buys debt from other companies and then uses scare tactics to try to get you to pay. Most of what they tell you over the phone is illegal, as far as my dealings with them. Check this site - http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/money/fair-debt/fair-dbt.htm and use it to your advantage. Here is a small excerpt of what they are not allowed to do..."

    What types of debt collection practices are prohibited?
    Harassment.
    Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse anyone or any third parties they contact. For example, debt collectors may not:

      * use threats of violence or harm;
      * publish a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts (except to a credit bureau);
      * use obscene or profane language; or
      * repeatedly use the telephone to annoy someone;

    False statements.
    Debt collectors may not use any false statements when collecting a debt. For example, debt collectors may not:

      * falsely imply that they are attorneys or government representatives;
      * falsely imply that you have committed a crime;
      * falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau;
      * misrepresent the amount of your debt;
      * indicate that papers being sent to you are legal forms when they are not; or
      * indicate that papers being sent to you are not legal forms when they are.

    Debt collectors also may not state that:

      * you will be arrested if you do not pay your debt;
      * they will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so, and it is legal to do so; or
      * actions, such as a lawsuit, will be taken against you, which legally may not be taken, or which they do not intend to take.

    Debt collectors may not:

      * give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit bureau;
      * send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency when it is not; or
      * use a false name.

    Unfair practices.
    Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, collectors may not:

      * collect any amount greater than your debt, unless your state law permits such a charge;
      * deposit a post-dated check prematurely;
      * use deception to make you accept collect calls or pay for telegrams;
      * take or threaten to take your property unless this can be done legally; or
      * contact you by postcard.
