Got a call from this number but didn't answer I don't know anyone from this number

I currently have the same issue. Since yesterday I have consistently been having this number calling and leaving a voice mail message saying I have insufficient funds or that my phone company doesn't cover these charges.  there are three phone numbers you should lookout for the (805)637-7243 , (713)568-6986 , (800)483-8314 be careful. At first I let it ring and one of the numbers would not leave a voice message, the others would say what everyone has heard. Some I would pick up and would say the same thing the voice message said. I would just block it, but if it can be reported than I would report it

I just want to know who was calling me

Weird. My experience was completely different. Ignored the call, then I got a voice mail saying something about insufficient funds nothing about inmates. Not my bank and I don't know anybody in jail. I'm sure its fraud.

This is a scam . Verizon told me to report it so they can block it from all you lines

I have been receiving calls from this number for weeks.  It says it is someone from a prison in California City, California but the call cannot be completed and to call back an 800 number. There is a prison there and I suspect that the inmates are trying to make phone calls to any number that will answer.  Some kind of scam for sure.

received this today.  It seems it goes in cycles?  It's CId is "Texas".  The message says it's from an inmate from Avenal State Prison, which is in NJ.

This is an inmate either friend or family most likely from the men's medium security prison in Blythe, CA. So if you know anyone who has gone missing for a while they are at Chuckawalla or Ironwood State Prison

Global Tel Link - while they ARE a contacted phone provider for all California inmates (county and state) - they ARE rip off artists.

If you give them a credit or debit card number... LONG after that inmate has left, they will still be charging your account.
If you approve $200 ONE TIME (example) - when the inmate uses up that amount, they automatically charge ANOTHER $200 (or $50 or whatever you FIRST approved). If the inmate uses 50 cents of it, and is then sent home, you LOSE the rest of the money. There is a LONG list of complaints and literally nothing can be done - because it's government sanctioned.  Big shock, huh?. They have a monopoly on this operation and no one will do anything.  I think a class action suit with the families and an attorney who wants to make a crap load of money MIGHT do the trick.

Most digital lines (not the actual phones - the communication line to your house) will not allow collect calls anyways.

My previous phone is blocked to not allow collect calls - even tho my son is a round trip ticket guy because he absconds all the time. No new crimes, he just doesn't want to answer to authority. He will have to wait for me to visit if he wants to hear my voice - OR better yet - check in with his parole officer once a month so it's no longer a problem. DAH...

This may sound bad and pretty dumb on my part but Im not sure who to set up account for. I know people in prison, plural, is there any way to fined out who and what prison?

It's a Scam. I don't know anyone in California, and I certainly don't know any one in a California Prison. Whoever is calling wants you to enter your CC info, and try to do so by telling you your account balance is low.
Anyone in this forum who says it's actually a call from a real prison is clearly in on the scam.

You must work for them.  I dont know anybody in prioson, and im not going to put money to some random number. HA!

I got that call too from Texas.  Supposely from a prison. Don't now anyone in prison. The message they leave is from an operator. Don't want to be charged for anything either.

This is an actual line for inmates and the call after is not phony it's real I would talk to a friend in prison and I had to pay to talk to him it's an actual inmate trying to call it's not a scam at all
