this is the first call I have gotten from this number.  I didn't answer it because I don't accept calls from numbers I don't know.  They did left a recorded message.  But the only thing I got in the message.  press 5 to accept this call.  So that told me it was a collect call from a stranger.  

It is a legit service, However I continue to get calls randomly and I have no one that should be contacting me. I contacted Global Tel Link and spoke with a customer service rep, she took my name and number down and ensured me it will be blocked from further calls (24-48 hours to effect). we will see.... their website is: http://jailcallservices.com/globaltellink

Thus number comes from a person calling from the Pelican Bay State Prison. If you don't have funds on your phone to accept the call, it will most likely not go through.

Unfortunately GTL..Global Tel Link is a real company they do handle prison calls and you do have the option to accept the calls and our block the calls from coming to your number simple as that your choice, but to call it a scam because you don't know anybody in the California. Prison system is wrong sorry. I get the same call its not a scam out my son... So listen and make a choice either block the number or pay to talk to you lived ones you personal decision.

How the scam works:

(with video below) If you ever receive a phone call from your local prison on your house phone and the operator tells you to press 1 to receive a collect call, don’t accept it (unless your buddy is arrested on a regular basis and you know he always calls). Many victims accept these collect calls because they don’t know who might be on the other side.

How does this scam work? Whenever allowed to make phone calls, real inmates dial random numbers until they find somebody willing to help. As soon as the victims answer, the scammer comes in with a quick apology for disturbing them followed by an emotional short story, such as being thrown in jail because he beat up a guy who assaulted his daughter, an hour ago.
 
The prisoner will ask the victim to call a number where supposedly his daughter is, to make sure she is ok. He will say that the number is impossible to reach from the prison he is in, or that they are not allowed to call cell phones. People fall for this scam as they think they are doing a good deed.

In reality, what victims do when dialing the number provided is just… call-forwarding their own telephone lines. This way, after getting you to forward the number, the scammer can call anywhere he wants, without being charged.

In a different variation of the scam, the callers cannot even be jail mates. They could be regular scammers trying to make phone calls on your dime. For example, they would pick names from the phone book with specific ethnicity and tell the operator they are part of their family.

I didn't answer but when I went to my phone messages it was a recording of a collect call tryna get thru as if it was a collect call from a Detention facility. So I would like to no who this # belongs to anf if it is Detention facility....

I just got a call from a prison he said his name was "Bruce" he gave me his PoBox and his code. Then he called again and said he heard someone named "Nick" said I like him... I was a bit shocked Cause I don't know a Nick and he called me from a prison.

This is weird because I live in Alaska, although I do have friends and family in California, now I am really curious on who it mite be, could someone call me from a long distance number?

I have a friend in prison, when he calls me this number comes up on my caller ID. It's from Global Tel Link. In order to accept calls I have to deposit money in an account I created. If people are receiving calls from this number but don't have anyone in prison, then maybe the inmate is trying to reach the person who had your number before. This isn't a scam. The first time I received this call it let me talk to my friend for 1 minute free of charge, then it gave me instructions on how to add funds. I added funds through https://www.connectnetwork.com/portal once I knew it was actually him. I believe all correctional facilities in California use Global Tel Link.

Got call from this number twice. Answered the second time.  Message said call from Global Tele something and someone is trying to reach from California prison system.  I had heard enough and hung up.  Obviously a scam very likely being pulled out of the Cal prisons.

Got a call from this number a couple weeks ago and a different one associated to it the next day Didn't answer Just looked it up Now today 2 more calls I didn't answer but they did leave a message about needing money for a prison phone account Wish I could block
