I got 2 calls from this number today.  When I answered I could hear someone speaking in the background but no response to my "hello....hello?"  So I hung up both times.  I've only had my current number for about 5 months so I imagine the person they're looking for must have had this number before I got it.  I don't have any loans..period.  Can my phone company do anything about these annoying calls?

I just spoke to Sallie Mae and they said it is not them and that they use toll free numbers only. They call us day and night but no one is there when you answer. Be careful someone may be trying to get your voice to access your personal info. Through your phone company you can get call rejection and this # will no longer be able to call you!!

It's an outsourced company on behalf of Sallie Mae. If you call Sallie Mae, they obviously can't see if their outsourced company has called. Solution? Don't answer this, and call Sallie Mae's published 800 numbers and take care of your debt.

No, your phone company can't block the calls, unless (possibly) you have a VOIP service that actually offers selective call blocking. Even so, Sallie Mae will just call from another number.. they have dozens. Solution? Change your number if you're getting calls about loans that aren't yours. It's a pain, but if someone had your number before you and gets calls about late student loans, they  could easily have other collections that you'll get bugged about, too.

You could try telling Sallie Mae that the person they are calling for is the person who had the number before you, but that likely won't work. If it did, everyone who is late on student loans could say that. Student loans are a bad idea, and an unfortunate reality for many people.

these [***] call me at least three times a day, usually after 9:30pm. i either get static or a computer generated message. i refuse to answer. i have filed deferment paperwork with them, but they don't like it and want me to pay for a deferment. they are ruthless and will pester as much as they can. they can wait until i am done with school before they receive their payments.

People from this number call me all the time- I'm not even more than a week late on my Sallie Mae loan payment generally. I mean, for real, I have to actually pay my rent and get another paycheck before I can send money to these money-grubbing, usurous, greedy [***]. Plus, I do think this number is a scam, because why wouldn't Sallie Mae just call from their own number? DUH- DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY PERSONAL INFO!!!! They are identity thieves.

This number calls me at the weirdest hours on my cell phone and i am getting pretty mad!there are little children in my hosue and waking up the whole house on a saturday at 5 am is insane!!!

They called my house tonight and after seeing this website, I called them back and told them to stop calling me!  Neither my husband nor myself has ever taken out a student loan.  Ever.  We've had other wrong numbers for literally years from people trying to collect on bad loans from people w/a similar names to ours--I'm not putting up with it any more!

this number called 2/26 at 423pm caller id showed mcc.  I usually don't answer unkown numbers but I did and they hung up.  I googled the number...I have no loan with sallie mae. I've had this phone number for 5 years and a very common last name and like anonymous above I receive calls from all sorts of numbers looking for people I've never heard of. This is phone spam! They can get around the DNC laws since they are not a telemarketer.  This is also harassment so I'm keeping a call log and am on a mission now to get it to stop!  I'm sick of it!

Sallie Mae is a pain in the a$$.  I did read an article recently that they had lost a huge amount of money last year and just changed the CEO. What I noticed was the huge buyout they gave the outgoing CEO that had obviously mismanaged the system! I suspect this coupled with a worsening economy and the fear of further losses, is why they are calling on the due date of every loan. I just ask them about their management team!

I received calls from the company in the past but can't remember how I got them to stop (for a good year at least).  I never had student loans, I always paid my schooling in full and I have no idea how they've got my cell phone number being that I've had it for the past eleven years.  Just this morning(8:30a.m.) I received a call from them again and didn't answer.  I simply called back refusing to give my soc.#, because of how much they stressed the conversation was being recorded.  They said if they call again to notify them and they will take me off their list intuiting that they must have the wrong number.  I'm just hoping they don't call again.  From the sounds of it, they're a pain in the a$$ to deal with.  I'll repost any info that may help those trying to get them to stop calling/harassing, that is if any useful techniques work for me.  It seems to be a badly opperated company annoying many innocent people...

Sallie Mae has some problems. They are asking for huge payments, but when I ask what month it's for or why it's so high they say they don't know. Recently, I made a huge payment and a few days later they called and demanded a similar amount (not the same amount) and come to find out the idiot I gave my payment to wrote down the wrong account number. Anyhow I got a call from 765-283-3176 on my cell phone, and the caller hung up. So, they screwed up my payment then sent me to collections! Sallie Mae does bad business, and doesn't care. Because, if you owe them money, they've got you by the balls.

I recieved a call from this number and they asked me for my social security number after telling me that I was delinquent (8 days late) big deal! I've always made my payments on time, but as soon as I miss one they never let me forget it. They kept asking me for my ssn and said they could resolve it right there so it "would be out of my hair". Sorry, I don't trust anyone who calls me and asks for my personal information. I told them they would get the payment in the mail as usual and then I hung up.

It is Sallie Mae!!! I hate these people. This number calls me only in the evening and my phone rings once and then they hang up. The one time I did get to answer all I hear is some backround noise and then they hang up like everyone else has said. I will NEVER in my life use these people again for loans. EVER!!! They call my parents house then my cell then my parents house then my cell all with in minutes of each call. It's insane.

yeah like everyone is saying, calls all the time at my work. so i recently just logged into my online account and changed the phone number.. hopefully that will stop, they worry way too much about money being a day late even though they say it can be 14 days on the website! rediculous!

765 283 3176 calls me incessantly.  The first time they called, I answered and the man asked for Virginia R__________(my last name).  When I asked what the call was in reference to, I was told it is Sallie Mae calling about unpaid student loans.  I informed them I went to college in the 1960s and paid for it every quarter myself with my part-time job and never had a loan of any sort.  He apologized for the call, saying I was obviously not the Virginia R__ they are looking for.  However, they continue to call, sometimes several times a day.
I Googled my name and found 1.763 other women with the same name who are US citizens.  Wonder if they are all getting these harrassing calls, too?

It is an agency that works on behalf of Sallie Mae.  I would suggest contacting Sallie Mae directly using their toll free number.  The 765 number continued to call me eventhough I made payment directly through the Sallie Mae website.

I'm a mother of a child with a loan from Sally Mae. They never stop calling. Never leave a message and I always tell them she's not available. If the person with the loan doesn't talk to them what made them think we would. She has the account differed so leave us alone. Thanks for the info on Cease and Desist I will be looking that one up for sure!!
