- RobGot a call from this number claiming to be citi as well. Funny thing is when I googled it I got a number of sites like this and noticed that several people claiming the # is legit posted exact same msg on many of these sites with the exact same names (Amy) being one of them. Maybe I am paranoid but that seemed suspicious to me. Smart thing to do is just call the number on your card PERIOD!! Regardless if it is legit or phishing!!
- Caller: Claimed to be Citi...
- Good SamaritanMy phone receives calls from this number. Funny thing is, the automated message says it's from Citi Dividend World Master Card's fraud department attempting to reach William Walters about suspicious activity on his account ending in 4597, AND THERE IS NO SUCH PERSON ASSOCIATED WITH MY PHONE NUMBER...for 13 years now.
Last week's version of the calls said that Mr. Walters had until 11/12 to call back and retrieve his message and if he didn't meet the deadline his card would be suspended. Today, I just received another call for the same person regarding the same account only now the deadline for returning the bank's call is 11/17. So, I called the number, thinking I could use "0" to get to a live operator to straighten out this mess, but the only two options were to press "1" if I'm William Walters or to press "5" if I'm not. Pressing "5" gave me the same voice message about getting William Walters to call back with the fraud warning's access code that my answering machine has been recording.
My next step: Google "Citi Dividend World Master Card" to get a different 800 number associated with the issuing bank. I was able to speak with a woman at Citi's "Lost and Stolen" department who told me that Citi never issues automated messages with the wording as I repeated it to her ("We never include any customer account information and never give deadlines for returning the call"). She also looked up 800-386-6624 in her list of official Citi phone numbers and said that it was not the number of Citi's fraud department and that it wasn't even a real Citi number.
William Walters, if you're out there, you're on your own. I tried to help.- Caller: Citibank
- FrancesI got this phone call on my cell phone and I ignored it. A minute later I got a call with the same number 800-386-6624 to my work phone, so I picked it up and it was from Citi Bank Fault Department and they said they found a suspicious transaction needed me to verify. Of course I did not make that purchase. They did not ask my credit card number. They told me they will immediately cancelled my account and send me a new one. Then I just shredded my old card. I then followed up a call back to Citibank to double check this call and Citibank verified that they did call me for the suspicious transaction reason. I am glad they did and always call back to double check and do not give away your personal information on the phone unless you are the one to make the call.
- Caller: Citi Bank
- laken replies to DebbieMe and my mom both started getting the calls after appying through that creditkarma.com sight also.
- SunapeeIt's legit. Citi Card services.
- Raj replies to AndyI got a SMS on my cell phone about my citi credit card and asked me to call the same 800 number and enter the pin. I rather called the number listed on the back of my card. They verified my transactions I did today and told me that the message was in fact sent by them, as they continuously monitor my card. I also verified the 800 number and the analyst said that the number belongs to citi cards.
- james8003866624 is legitimate to verify if any suspicious credit card transaction made within last 24 hours.
When I googled Internet, many comments said this is not legit. To verify it, I called this number and it is real for a suspicious transaction verification. It tells a transaction made last night and vendor asked an extra $ somehow. Since this is virtual account with amount limited to avoid fraud, then, of course, vendor failed once, but got through the second time. This triggered alarm.
Phone did not ask any account information or personal information.
People should be careful to return back some suspicious phone call, but also need to make sure you know what it is before making any good comment. Otherwise, the dummy comment would be even annoying then the phone call.
You can verify any such phone call, but just do not give any confidential information if they do ask; give some random number if they ask to make sure if they are doing fraud.- Caller: citicard
- golfbum55The # 800-386-6624 was on my caller id and message from citi bank on my answering machine. I had just returned home from using my card several times. The message was concern about the recent usage of my card. I called # on back of my card instead. They said that was there direct fraud line phone #. They were just concerned about the charges. I guess a good policy but would prefer they worried about higher charge amounts. Bottom line it is a citicard # and I was told it is ok to call.

- nickThe message is from Citi Bank, but I called back on the number which is on the credit card and sure enough, there are fraudulent charges.
- MiaTry harder scammers. I've cancelled my citi account a long time ago and these morons still called me. And try to get my name correct next time. Btw scammers who are posting as if it's legit, get a life and get lost.
- JohnI got a SMS message to call this number. It turns out, it is a legit fraud # for CitiBank Credit Cards. I recently used my card to 3-4 things from various websites and this must had flagged the account for fraud. Upon calling in to the completely automated system, I was prompted to enter the PIN given in the SMS. It then asked me for my zip code and to confirm by pressing 1 if i a) knew where my card was and b) was [name here]. The system then rattled off the last three transactions listing both the amount and location asking each time to confirm the purchase. It did not ask me for any other personal information.
- Caller: CitiBank
- Johnson| 1 replyI got this as an SMS message, then it was followed up with a call from the same 800 number as in the message. So I called the number on the back of my card and CITI confirmed that it IS A SCAM. I was put on hold and they checked with their real fraud department. Turns out that the fraud department did NOT try to contact me and there had been no activity on my card.
It definitely looks as though the scammers are posting on this site.- Caller: unknown

- FraudBuster| 1 replyIt's a phishing fraud folks - I confirmed it with Citibank!!
Do not respond to this number or provide any information whatseover.
Report the number to Citibank immediately and to your state Attorney General.
Posts claiming the call is "valid" are shills for this fraud posting yet more garbage and lies - don't be duped!!
Again, it's a phishing fraud folks - I confirmed it with Citibank!!!- Caller: Fake Citibank Phishing Fraud
- Citibank user replies to Marsha IddingsI called the number on the back of my card, it asked for my card number then told me they would like to verify recent unusual transactions. I verified through the automated system, and it was taken care of. If you get a text and think it's a scam, just call the number on the back of the card.
- Suspish replies to DebbieLovely. Makes you wonder.
- bambam replies to FraudBusterListen, wannabe fraudbuster and those who claimed the number as being a scam number - what are your intentions in alleging that the number is NOT from Citi? You trying to misled readers or you think this is one of your personal playground?
The number is indeed from Citi. I had it verified. - bGot text message to call this number, then got an actual call from this number. They did not leave a message. I called Citibank on the back of my credit card and they said they were trying to verify a charge on my card. So the number seems legit. But if in doubt, just call the number on the back of your credit card.
- PizzoIt IS INDEED CitiBank. I called the number on the back of my card to make sure, and it immediately told me there was suspicious activity for someone trying to buy a hotel on travelocity.
- Caller: Citi
- AbsolutelyAScamI got that call twice one right after another very quickly this morning so I called the # on the back of my Citi card and they said that it is ABSOLUTELY A TOTAL SCAM - they do not have that number in their system. They said if you EVER get ANY call from someone claiming to be from your CC Co, tell them thanks for calling, you will call them back. Hang up, get out the card, call the number on the back and report to them what the number is and have them check to see if it's one of theirs and if there has been any funky activity on your account - they can tell. They may call you but you should never give out information to ANYONE who calls YOU. You should only give it out after You Call Them Back.
- Caller: NA
- Alex replies to Marsha IddingsReceived the same call today 2/15/12. I did not pick up, listen to the voicemail message saying that I have recently registered with Citibank. Scam!
