This is a legitimate Citibank credit card fraud detection number. They knew specific card transactions on our card without my volunteering them and did not ask for phishing-type information. They were concerned because the credit card had been used at an out-of-state supermarket which can be a red flag. I established that the use of the card was legitimate, and that ended the matter.

We called the number on our card for Citi Bank.  They were trying to reach us because of what they thought was unusual activity on our card when we tried to use it this weekend more than usual.   No problem, they were just doing their job.
But it's always wise to be cautious with these kinds of calls and anything to do with your credit.

Received two calls about Citi card fraud.  I listened to the first call until they asked me for my card info  - then knew it was a scam.

I'm happy to say that it's actually a legit Citicard fraud department phone number. That is ... I pulled out my Citi credit card, and called the phone number on the back of the card. They knew me, they knew about the potentially fraudulent activity, they named off the same details that were in the text message, then they closed the account so they could change the credit card number.

In other words - if it were a Phishing attack, then the Phisher's would have to know stuff the Citicard fraud department knew. In other words, the text message had to have come from the Citicard fraud department.

Believe what you like, but be certain to contact Citibank in some form or other – doing so saved me thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges. The charges were fraudulent, the Robo calls were legitimate.

Finally, a sensible human. The rest can believe what they like, but you should know that this allegedly fraudulent phishing scam saved me literally thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges. The number on the back of the card verified every bit of information I received from this number.

It was Citi banks regards to fraud activities.  First I was concerned because of the other notes on this website.  I call the number and spoke with customer service on the activity that I am not aware of (outside of the state.) I agree to cancel the card and get new cards.

I called back the customer service number that was on Citi bank's website just to make sure that was real  not scam to get my card information.   It is real and all the conversations took place was noted, and my account was cancelled then as we discussed.  I am glad I called.  But good idea to still double check if you are not comfortable. :)

I got a text message concerning a fraud and called this number. I didn't think until after that it might be a fraud though. It sounded totally legit and they didnt ask me for any personal info about the card except my address which is kinda weird because they usually ask for passwords. Anyway they told me I had been charged out of state and they put a hold on the transaction because it was suspicious. They also asked about another transaction that was actually of my doing so unless they were Citibank they could not have known that. They proceeded to close my account and on my online account it did tell me that it was closed. Later I then called the number at the back of my card and they confirmed that my account was closed due to suspicious activity so the prevous number was legit therefor

Huh.  I did the same, and it WAS Citibank.  I agree, call the number on your card.  Weird, it can't be both a scam and valid.  I think those of you that think it was a scam are wrong, but better safe than sorry.

This was legit and I can't understand why others are saying it is not. Yes, got landline message and also text message on our cell phone plus cell phone message from Citi Bank I called the number in back of my card and there was a fraud alert. My husband looked up this number on the Internet that was left on phone to call. He told me it was fake but I always verify. If you get some sort of call, always call the number on the back of your card and find out what is going on. Just common sense. Don't listen to others---verify!!!!!! I am still in a state of shock that this has happened. Thank you Citibank for being there and I am upset that others have stated that this is a scam.

Don't believe those saying this is legit. They are the scammers themselves infiltrating these lists. Call the number on your credit card first. Get the real story the. Report the number that called you and any other information you have.

People, please understand that it is EASY to make a false number appear on your phone,  so the bad guys could be calling while making a legitimate number show up. I suspect some of these posts assuring folks that this is a legitimate number and to trust the conversation are some of these [***].

This is my experience. I first called the number provided on my answering machine, 800-386-6624 and used the code provided. He told me about suspicious charges and when I said I had not made the charges, he read me a statement about prosecuting people making fraudulent claims (paraphrased). I said I better check with my spouse and call back. After checking, I called the number on the back of the card. When I entered my account number, it also went to the fraud department. She was aware of my previous call and read me the same statement when I confirmed I had not made the charge. The customer service representatives at both numbers had the same information.

To be safe, just call the number on the back of your card. If you don't have a card, you may be sorry if you don't call the 800-386-6624 number and someone has taken out a card in your name.

It's a legitimate Citi call.  I didn't answer the phone when it rang because I didn't think it looked right for a toll-free number to be calling my work phone.  I hopped immediately on to this site and saw that it MIGHT be legit.  So I logged onto my Citi account online and sure enough there was a fraud alert.  I called the number on the back of my card--yep, someone had fashioned a fake card using my number and tried to make a $300+ purchase at a pharmacy on the other side of the country.   Very glad that Citi was on the ball!

I can confirm it, this number is 100% legit, citibank themselves says so because I tried to make multiple purchases at the same store and it appeared like I was testing the card, etc...
