The 1-800 678-7986 number is a legitimate number for Wells Fargo's loan modifications, short sales and loans that are delinquint.  If you do not have a loan with Wells Fargo, call the number and start pressing zero.  This will get you beyond having to enter in your loan number (which doesn't exist) and your SSN (which you should never give anyone).  Tell them you do not have a loan with them and that you want to be removed from their call list or placed on their do not call list.  the important thing is to say the word "list".  Legally they have 30 days to remove you, but from experience toady, they'll do it while you are on the phone with them.  Wells Fargo was actually pretty good about all of this and seemed sincere when they apologized for my situation.  It will be worth you time.  If you are skeptical of my post, then check out the following URL:www.wellsfargo.com/homeassist/shortsale

    In the know
Just answer the phone and when someone comes on and THEY says "this phone call is being monitored and recorded for....".  Answer back "I AM recording this conversation for future reference"  They will not agree and hang up or give you a bunch of crap why you can't and they can.  Whats fair game is fair game for us too.  I for one won't be rude, they have a job to do and the caller is probably an under paid college kids.  BE NICE!!!!!!!  AND your not late until the 16th.  @ Wells Fargo, I know it's due on the first, but have 15 days grace and with this economy I need the extra time, so you can stop blowing up my phone every other hour when I at work making money to pay you.  XOX

Wells Fargo Home Mortgage collections has been calling me for months on someone elses bill. I owe wells fargo nothing. I have asked and asked for them to stop calling me on my pay as you go cell phone and explained to them I was not the person they were looking for. When that didn't work, I wrote an email to headquarters and got a call back from a woman who wanted personal information and to interview me by phone. I told her my name and my service provider, my address and where I was at the moment. I explained to her that II work graveyard and she was waking me up and I was not willing to sit on the phone and spend more of y money talking to her about who I am...which is none of her business.. so she threatend that she wouldn't stop the calls... so they call me 4 or 5 times a day..even on sunday  and fill my voicemail box just because I pissed her off. As I  said... I don't have a wells fargo mortgage... or any mortgage!

Maybe at some point someone made a mistake and entered a phone number wrong and instead of reaching the customer, they reach you.

They are calling on behalf of Wells Fargo, but it seems like they have some problems with their robocalls - no one is ever there on the other end of the line when I pick up, and calling back gets a few clicks and a hangup. I called the number on my Wells Fargo statement instead of this number, and I recommend others do as well.

I called Wells Fargo because I received a call from them as well. They said I was behind on my mortgage payments. The number that came up on caller ID was 800-678-7986.

I paid cash for my house and have never had a mortgage. I told them they must have the wrong person. They insisted I have a mortgage. I hung up and called my neighbor who works for Wells Fargo home mortgage. He said a lot of hackers will use a fake caller ID to place calls like this. The apps are available on the Android store.  I looked, they are.

It is best to call your banker personally or call the number back. It will not ring into the hackers phone, but actually into WF.

I get calls from this number several times a day at my business. No one ever say's anything. I called back the number today and it prompted me to enter the last four digits of my social, but I ignored it and it transferred me to a customer service agent. These calls are from Wells Fargo. I explained to the customer service rep what was going on and she told me that the calls are computer generated and that there is a long prompt before you will hear the message. She offered to remove our number from their call list. She gave me her name and employee ID # to use as a reference in case the calls continue. The calls are for a former employee that they are trying to reach. I suggest you call them as I did and have them remove the number from their list.

They are the worst It is Wells Fargo but One deptartment does not know what the other department is doing...They claim they do...If you pay and they do not post it in time which is all the time....They call incessently. It is a disgrace that they are allowed to do this... The people are snotty at best. I will never ever recommend Wells Fargo for any thing..If you have money with them take it out...God bless those of us with mortgages with them... If you pay by Mail it never gets posted...They want you to pay by phone to which their is a charge of 20.00 for. (really they don't make enough money) or direct withdrawl which I had at one point and they still called... Again because they conviently don't post them on time...but they sure as Heck with draw it on time... Then call......after they look at the account they appologize when you do not accept their appolgy they get nasty .... so with them it is a no win situation and It should not be allowed....We should all start reporting their tactics to the Insurance and Banking commission ..Which I am going to do if they do not stop ! And to the ignorant person who says pay your bills on time... I hope you do not have a mortgage with them because you will learn ...that really doesn't matter with Wells Fargo!

This number kept calling my husband's phone. He has been laid off a week a month so we have been about 3-4 weeks late on our mortgage. We have never gotten calls before until now. I questioned the woman and she insisted it was Wells Fargo and could even tell me when I scheduled my payment online so I know it was legit. She was very nice, and said she would note my account, they understand hardships, etc... An hour later same number called my husband's cell again!!!! I said screw it don't even bother answering. I don't get it. If you see I scheduled a payment online, AND I spoke to someone who supposedly noted my account, then WHY ARE YOU STILL CALLING WHEN YOU GOT YOUR ANSWER!!!!!???? Should not have answered in the first place! They can't take my house for being a month late! Go after the ones who aren't paying at all!!!!!!

If they're so legit, then why don't they know who their calling?  Why don't they say their name on the recording?  How about saying who they're looking for?  Seriously, they've been calling everyday for 2 weeks and this is a corporation.  Whoever it is - they're trashing Wells Fargo's rep.

Yes Well Fargo took over my loan and they are the worse always calling my home and now calling my cell they call from a 240 area code number as well they tried to bill me over 300 extra said I did not have home insurance  so my State Farm agent showed I was covered they tried this twice and then hit me with a $400 fee for escrow said my property taxes were behind  which was a lie showed them paid receipt so they dropped it.
These people are the scourge of the banking industry

I posted a few months ago that this is Wells Fargo -- they are still calling and claiming I'm late on my mortgage when I'm not, and tell me I should schedule a payment online to stop the calls, even though I have already paid in full. They seem legit but incredibly stupid and rude.
