I received a call from this phone number on my CELL PHONE. The only credit card I have used recently is a Wells Fargo one -- and they NEVER EVER call me on my cell phone number re security matters. Never. I contacted Wells Fargo security, and they said "that is definitely not one of our numbers; it is probably a phishing attempt; these numbers change so frequently there is nothing we can do about it. You didn't give them any information did you?"

I received a call from this number today. The funny thing is they were asking for my husband which is overseas. They told me they were calling to verify some charges recently made on his credit card with our bank. We DON'T have a credit card with our bank! So I asked them if they could tell me the charges and for how much and they said they wouldn't discuss that with me. I said excuse me!!! I'm the primary owner of our bank account and I added him once we got married, plus I have a POA. They told me they didn't see my name on the account at all, and wouldn't tell me anything!! So I'm not sure if they are ligit or not, but I'm calling my bank on Tuesday to find out what is going on! My online banking doesn't show any unusual charges from him using his debit card!

Just an FYI to people in the mid-atlantic/mid-west, PNC uses this company too.  I had just spent 2500 bucks on a vacation and they called within an hour to verify the legitmacy of the purchase.  Only asked for the last four digits of my card number and were able to verify my last five purchase, just like an ATM receipt. Once I confirmed the purchases, the call was over.  Very legit and actually kind of comforting to know the efficiency with which this company operates to protect my money.

This is a third party fraud detection service used by my bank (PNC).  This is totally legit.  They don't ask for any info that can cause harm.  Last 4 of my card and my phone number they then had me verify my last 5 purchases.  Done and Done.  PNC verified their use as well.

THIS IS A SCAM, DON'T FALL FOR IT! Those who come here and claim it to be legit are part of the scam.  Ask yourself this...how many times have you searched a number of someone or some company after you already know it is legitimate.  Why are these people taking the time to search a phone number they say they know is legitimate, then taking the time to comment on this site about it.  Why would they be here in the first place? Either they are schills for the company tring to convince people to trust this number, or they are 100 times bored and cruise the net looking to find bad things written about legitimate company's phone numbers.  Which sounds more logical to you?

Dan Clark wrote...I'm starting to think the people that are calling this number a scam are the scammers themselves.  This is legit.  You call back, enter the last 4 of your credit card, an automated response verifies your name and then lists your last transactions for you to verify.

Tell me this then Dan...why are they calling me wanting to know my information,  I have no idea what PNC bank is, never heard of it, I have no credit card, I do all my banking in my local bank in a rural small town, they know nothing of this number or service, so how am I part of the scam???   YOU AND THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER ARE THE CRIMINALS AND SCAMMERS AND I HOPE YOU ROT IN PRISON!  Yeah I'm pissed and ready to fight.  Quit calling my number you worthless human scum!

This is a legitimate call, confirmed with Paypal.  I had a transaction declined last night because I'm so used to using my debit card for everything, I forgot that there is a limit on how much can be pending from my backup funding at one time.  Then made multiple purchases today.  They didn't ask for my card number, only the phone number they called with the automated message, and my name.  They provided the transactions and I only had to confirm that I made the purchases.

I searched the number in google when it came up on my Caller ID on my cell phone in the middle of my work day.  I don't work for the the company that called or for Paypal, and confirmed with Paypal that the call was legitimate before calling them back.  They didn't ask for any information, so how could they be scamming me by allowing me to decline any potentially illegitimate purchases?

Got a call from this number at 8:30 in the morning... wanting me to call back saying they were with my bank calling to make sure my account was secure. I called back... (Computerized System) Confirmed the phone number I was calling from... they wanted my card number (I don't care if it's even the last 4 digits) I said hell no... hung up called my banks account security and talked to them. If this is legit... then well they can deal with my bank's account security people. I verified and told them (My bank's security people) where all I bought from in the past 5 days.

I see paypal all over the place with posts, well I just started using my ebay account again after 9 years of inactivity... if this is PayPal then they should deal with my bank... not me.

If in doubt call your bank's account security listed on the back of your card.

This is a third party verification service used by my bank and also paypal to verify charges are not fraud.
The automated system asked the last 4 of my card, and verified my last 5 transactions.

    Thankful
Received a call from this number, on the cell phone, which nearly NO ONE except close friends, two businesses and our bank has.  They asked specific information regarding our last 5 transactions (happened at odd times and across the state from where we usually are), we agreed that those were our transactions, off the phone, log on to pay-pal, got the security pin to call them and TADA YES!!! it was a call from an outside company for them.  The purchases were "unusual" for us and rather than just complete the transactions, they had placed them on hold until verified that we actually made them.  Thank you Pay-Pal for the extra security measures.

I got a call from this number about 3 minutes after I made a purchase online.  I didn't answer it, because I was sure it was a solicitor.  I definitely wouldn't call it back and give credit card info, but I called Wells Fargo directly, and they DID have a flag on my account.  Since I verified it, they took the flag off the account.

Since they are flagging the account, your transaction will not go through unless you resolve it.  So while you may not want to call back the number on the recording, call WF directly to resolve it.

Received a call at 8:30am on my cell I must say when they said "This isn't a solicitation call...were calling to verify some recent activity on your credit card"  I immediately hung up.. In my opinion if this was a legit company they would state their business name and not say "THIS ISN'T A SOLICITATION CALL"  I haven't spoke to the people but if you guys will read what everyone else is writing.. let me sum it up for you

One person said the told them they were wells fargo
another said they told them they were with paypal
another said they were with a Credit Union

Okay how do you feel that this company is legit when they have so many different ways to connect to  people...

To be on the safe side if you get this call immediately hang up.. Call your local bank or contact your credit card companies for suspicious transactions on your account, or even paypal if you have it.   That way you are 100% sure you are safely speaking to someone in charge of your account.

With Identify theft where it is today I wouldn’t risk it on a call that’s starts out with “THIS ISN’T A SOLICITATION CALL”

Don’t assume because they knew you were making purchases its legit.  Any crook can get a phone number personally I could get an 800 number and call you and tell you there are recent transactions on your credit card I needed to discuss with you.   And apparently you would all open your whole lives to me just because I had an 800 number truthfully scammers know that EVERYONE in this day in age is using their Credit Cards.. So don’t be “oh my gosh they must be legit because they knew I was using my credit card”  you’re just setting yourself up for a ton of trouble.

Be safe guys contact people you KNOW is in charge of your accounts don’t give out ANY personal information on someone who calls YOU.

This was a legitimate call on behalf of my bank, checking on recent credit card transactions. All were authorized, although the dollar amount of one of my regular monthly transaction was oddly off, by less than a dollar. I'll be watching that.

Its legit people, but call your bank aft
I got this call this morning, they blocked a $2500 charge to Office Depot in additional 3 .02 cent charges and 1 .01 cent charge, it seems my account was being tested for fraud reasons by the thief.

I called my bank immediately after speaking with the rep. from 800-830-8574 and PNC confirmed it was a 3rd party fraud department. I asked them how this can happen since I ve never even activated this card yet, the rep. explained theres no telling how they got my cc number. I told her it had to be someone on the inside selling these numbers, she shrugged me off as saying again no telling how. I bet alot more new PNC customers are having this problem.

This is a legitimate call from the annoying Paypal credit fraud security center.  They only ask to verify the phone number you call from and your name.   They then supply you with the last 4 digits of your Paypal card # and list the transaction that they flagged for suspicious activity.  If they were fishing, then they already have access to my account in the first place.

I randomly get calls for them for purchases I make with my Paypal card for the same vendors I do business with on a routine basis.  It's annoying as hell but I suppose it's better that they be overly protective than do nothing at all.

If you don't want to trust giving them any info, then call Paypal directly yourself and ask to be transfered to their Card Security department and handle the issue yourself before they put a hold on any further transactions you try to make.

Just call the number on the back of your card when in doubt at the actual bank and they will confirm and let you know the issue, then they can transfer you back to mastercard services without you having to dial any numbers you don't trust, that's what I did and this number is legit, I was a bit FREAKED out (got a call from PayPal debit card but the phone number didn't match the card)!

It's totally legit. When it prompted me to verify the incorrect phone # it had on record of calling I just said yes. Then hit '0' a couple times when it asked for the last 4 credit card digits. I was transferred to a very polite woman so said "I understand your concern blah blah blah. Please call your financial institution and ask them to connect you with their Transaction Review Dept blah blah." So I did, and sure enough they had called and went straight down the list of my last 5 or so transactions to verify them.

I'd say if you're wary, just call the bank and have them directly transfer you to their review department.

    Cheers.
