Report a phone call from 800-830-8574 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- SteveI had a computer generated message on my voicemail stating suspicious activity on my America First Credit Union Visa card. I was suspicious that this was a scam so I called my bank directly using the phone number on the back of my Visa card. They confirmed the following:
1. There were 2 charges made online today that I did not make.
2. They DO use this credit card security monitoring service to watch for suspicious activity.
So they canceled my cards and are sending me new ones. Now I have to go through the ordeal of disputing the charges but if I had not been called by this service I wouldn't have even known about the charges on my Visa for a few more days until they cleared and showed up on my statement. This phone number / company is legit. It's better to be safe than sorry and I'm glad we're all suspicious of these kind of things because there are so many scams nowadays!
I suggest all of you call the number of the creditor listed on the back of your card. This way you keep all your info safe and you can also verify whether or not they use this company's service too.
Again - I verifed that this was a REAL LEGIT company! Stay safe everybody :) - Porter1-800-830-8574 was card transaction verification service used by PayPal. Information requested, number they called and left a message on, my name, and if I made a purcahse from a certain business for amount $xxx.xx. Confirming I had, they said thank you and call ended.Short, sweet and minimal information shared.
- JustinIt's legit. Minimal info shared. Was in regards to the Paypal Secure Card plug-in transaction. I was a bit apprehensive myself, and chose to speak with a rep as opposed to the automated recording system and was happy to speak with someone who spoke English, rather than Babu from Pakistan or who knows where (a usual sign of a scam.) Just verified phone #, name, and last 4 digits of the secure card I had used on the transaction they had on file.

- it's legitThey called, left a VM for me to call back - Called the # back, spoke to someone in person because I had no clue which of my 8 CCs they were calling about.
After they identified which CC they were calling about, they rattled off a bunch of accurate charges to my acct, then told asked me about a charge at a gas station 2100 miles away. Needless to say, I did not do that, so my card # was obviously compromised. They placed a block on the #, I called my bank and they're sending me a new one.

- Dillon EThis number calls numerous times a day and leaves automated voicemails.
I am getting [***] livid and want this to end. - JenI get these verification calls frequently because I use my Paypal debit card frequently and usually get cash back. It is legit and a really great measure for protection. Although it could be executed in a better manner, the automated system probably saves them money rather than by them hiring a "live" staff to do this verification. But if there is a unknown charge that you hear, you can get help on it right away. It's easier to call from the number you have on file with them when you do call them back.
We should all be more careful on what we call "a scam" as it's very unsettling to people looking for information. - Paypal user1-800-830-8574 called me yesterday and today. They said they where paypals debit card center. With the wrong call back number, if there paypal they should know the number there calling.I reported it to paypal and asked them if it was a legit number just a few minutes ago. I find it suspicious, because you cant contact paypal directly, even when you have a dispute you have to mail a form into them. When I get there answer, I will update.

- JasonRecieved a call they left an automated message about recent account activity. I called back, spoke to a woman who wanted my credit card number, I told her NO. She quickly said something about contacting my bank and ended the call
- Jean Baptiste MINANII have received a call from this number asking me to authorize transactions using my Debit card. I don't know why they are calling me. and looks like my previous transaction is being charged twice. I guess they are charging me for nothing. I need them to cancel whatever transaction they want to deduct from my account. what can I do?
- JimReceived same call. Called the bank; after some research on their part to verify the phone (18008308574) they (the bank) transferred me to the third party company who explained they get this a lot. So what can I say except that I'm glad that there are others watching out for fraud.
And yes, they do verify where you are calling from and ask only to verify the last 4 of your card (no ssn, spellings of name, or acct #'s, JUST last 4).
If you did not make the purchase(s) they inquire about, that card will be reissued (and they tell you that up front).
End result: as mentioned by others here, this is a legit # well worth calling back. If it is not you using the card #, this party stops further use. The bank does send you a new one with a new number within a week to two later.
I think it is both cool and sad that pc's are watching how and where we use our cards... that's what's spooky.- Caller: Third party fraud alert for WF
- Geoffrey DeeThis is actually the third party card service center for my Bank, It took some jumping though hoops, but I have verified this number by being transferd by my bank and checking the number that way.
- Jon90% likely, this number is not fraudulent or a scam, but it can, at times, be a case of one hand not knowing what the other was doing.
In my job, I sometimes have to make several small transactions at several different, but related locations, such as visiting 6 or 8 gas stations and making a small purchase at each one. These kind of patterns do seem suspiscious to the credit card companies, though in this case it was an accurate record of transactions.
When credit card companies see patterns that worry them, they do have departments that follow up, and verfiy transactions. Usually they do not want you to provide them with almost any information, as noted in many of the replies here.
My problem this time was a little different. On Friday I made the purchases. On Saturday I received the verification call, and verified the transactions. On Sunday I received an e-mail saying they had not been able to reach me to verify some transactions, and to please call, or my card would be blocked.
PayPal is the card issuer. I called them directly, and they said my account was fine. I asked about the e-mail, and they asked me a few questions, and then said it seemed to be legitimate. (It seemed to be far too accurate to be a spoof e-mail.)
So I called the number. I refused to provide any information that they had not already provided me, and let them know of the situation. They responded that if I had already spoken to somebody, then the situation was good, and that the e-mail must have been delayed in getting through.
While it is good to be VERY vigilant about providing information on your credit cards, if all they ask you for is your last 4 digits and your name, and then to verify that the transactions they read off to you are accurate, then you are pretty safe.
Just remember, don't ever give out the whole number, or the security code on the back. - friendPaypal says it is legit: https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Online-safety/Scam-or-Legit/m-p/6475
- JustinI recently made a bunch of purchases for the holiday and i did recieve a call back and voice mail from 800/830-8574. I read over the internet that the number was associated with pay pal (i dont have a account or card with them). i called the number on the back of my debit card (my bank) asking about the number. i did happen to make a purchase that was decline earlier that day by a website saying either the information entered was incorrect or my bank agency was not allowing it. it turns out the id number of the merchant was not recognized by my bank so for my own good the bank declined it. It did work on my credit card (debit cards have more security to them and often may not go through). The website was valid and my bank verified 800/830-8574 as a valid number who calls when they think suspicious activity is taking place (in my case i made 4 purchases in an 1.5 hours).
- sylusthis is REAL. i was highly sceptical at first too, i checked a bunch of different sites online to find out if it was legit or not.
when i called i did not give my card info. i pressed 0000# and then i got a person on the phone. they told me what it was about and asked me to verify charges i have made recently. they sayed they were with wells fargo. as far as i can tell they are good. i went out of town yesterday and did alot of holiday shopping thus it only makes sence that these percheses as well as ones i have made online seemed susspicious.
if you are worried about callign this number back i suggest calling your bank first.
peace and smiles
-sy - BrionThis is not a scam - PayPal and other banks use this automated service to verify that charges on your credit card are authorized and that your card was not stolen. Financial institutions tend to use this automated service to verify transactions if the transactions seem out of the ordinary for your spending habits or if the charges are not in your usual spending areas (i.e., out of state, etc). This is a good service and it is for your protections. They will not ask for any personal information nor credit card PINs or security codes.
The conspiracy theorists can stop scaring everyone now. What has surprised me here is the ignorance of the posters - if you research, the answers are available on the web. PayPal has been using this automated service for the past 5 years.- Caller: Automated Service
- AliciaThis number called me at work (my work number is not listed as a contact number for any of my accounts). It was a computer generated voicemail wanting to verify "suspicious" transactions on my debit card. Funny thing is, I actually work for the bank they were calling about. I did not return the call.
- Caller: UNAVAILABLE
- ChrisThis isn't a scam...just fraud detection services for your credit/debit card. I used my PayPal debit card to make 2 big purchases today and they called me a few hours later to verify.
It's a completely automated system that just asks for the last 4 digits of the card in question. Then they play back the recent transactions in question and you either verify that you made those purchases or not. Simple. - Dan ClarkI'm starting to think the people that are calling this number a scam are the scammers themselves. This is legit. You call back, enter the last 4 of your credit card, an automated response verifies your name and then lists your last transactions for you to verify.

- KiruI got a call from this number twice. Once in the morning which I answered and hung up on and one in the evening that left a message on my voicemail. The voicemail said that they were from PNC Bank and were calling to verify recent activities on my account.
I called PNC and asked if they were trying to get in contact with me. They were not.
So I called the number back and the machine identified the company as "Conch Services". The machine asked to verify the phone number I was calling from. They had it WRONG! They then asked for the last four numbers of my account. I put in 0000 and they said they couldn't verify my account and were transferring me to an operator. Again, the message says that "CARCH Services" was happy to help me, blah, blah, blah. But when the woman picked up (Southern accent) I asked her to spell the name of her company since I wasn't sure if it was "Conch" or "Carch". To my surprise she said she was from "First Data Services"! I asked her if she knew "Conch or Carch Services" and she said she'd never heard of it! Wow! This is looking sooooo legitimate!
So after that I called her a spammer and a criminal and she insisted she was representing PNC Bank. So she ended the call shortly after that.
I called PNC back and asked the operator if she knew of either Conch, Carch, or First Data Services. She was not and advised me to ignore the call. I gave her all the information and she said she'd forward it to her supervisor. If she does, hopefully PNC will take an interest in stopping this company from defrauding PNC customers.
In short, FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD! I'm also reporting them to the FCC.- Caller: Conch or Carch or First Data Services
