I keep receiving a call from 1-800-945-6596.  Sometimes they call twice a day.  When I answer, no one ever says anything.  Occasionally, they will ask for someone who's name I do not recognize.  It is a foreign-sounding voice, perhaps Arab??.  How can I stop them from calling?

Sometimes this number calls many times a day.  Usually they don't leave a message.  When they do leave a message they say it is 'American Eagle for Maria Ferrara'.
Well nobody by this name has ever lived here, so I just ignore them.

    Fixed It
I called the # back and when asked for my acct # I entered 0000000000000000 then it asked for a zip code I entered 00000 it said it didn't match and tranfered me to a person to talk too. I explained they had the wrong number for the person they were trying to contact and that it was my cellphone. They pulled up the account and removed my number for that account. I then threatened to sue if I heard from them again! So far I haven't had a problem since!

I think this is a scam, as they call our house non-stop and the few times we have answered it was someone speaking Spanish. A telephone scam was happening similar to this last year were they would call and every minute you were on the phone, you got charged $1,000 which was sent to an off shore account. I do not answer this call anymore and I have requested that my phone company block the number.

I, like others, get calls from this number on my cell phone...I answer and they say they cannot connect this call at this time, or please enter your account number.  I have Care Credit and A&E but did not give them my cell number and I am not behind on my accounts.  This is super annoying.....they will not stop calling.  Kinda strange that they don't call my home number.  I am registered on the do not call list for both cell and home phone.....how can they can get my cell number??  Boy, you can't escape this kind of thing....so annoying and how can you stop it?

I too have received calls from 1-800-945-6596.  I have only answered one of the calls the get a name of the party they wanted.

I asked a friend of mine in credit card collections and have found a solution:

Don't answer anymore calls; you will just get aggravated and it makes you look like you are the person the they are looking for.

Call the number back (it is indeed real and belongs to a credit collection agency).  Just enter a few zeros, the recording will say you need to enter account number in allotted time and will say the number you entered is not valid.  Enter a few more zeros and you will get the same message then you will be transferred to a live person. (I didn't have to wait more than a minute).  At this point, they think you are indeed calling to pay your bill and just forgot your account number.

This next part is very important!  Remain courteous and professional.  This assures them that you are not the party they are looking for.  Anything less makes you look guilty. They will ask for you acct number and tell them "I am calling to let you know that "place the name here that they call about" does not and has never lived here.  We have had this number and address for 20 years.  We would appreciate if you would stop calling us.  The next call you make will be recorded and given to our family lawyer."  They will then ask for your number (give it to them) and apologize for the inconvenience.  If they seem rude, ask for their name and a supervisor.  If they hang up on you, call back.  Most likely you will not get the same person.  Again, remain calm and professional.

So far they have not called us back.  In our case they were looking for a Rose ________.  (The same last name as ours).  I added right before I hung up that several hundred people in our area are listed with that last name.

Again, it is very important to remain calm, courteous and professional on the phone.  As hard and frustrating as it is, refrain from harsh language and words, it just makes you look guilty.

    Tips:
These call centers just call every Last Name in the phone book (its all automated) with the last name of the party they are looking for.  Not only is it harassment, it is illegal.  You do have legal rights once you have contacted the company to stop contacting you.  (Once they seem to have a "hit" meaning they think they might have the person they are looking for, they will continue to "harass" with numerous calls.

During your conversation with the customer service rep, you can add "our family lawyer, _____________ and mention a real lawyer by name from the phone book that deals with debt collection.  This lets the company know you are serious and on the edge of legal action.

If they continue to call after you contact them to stop, do not answer the phone!  Instead record the amount of calls per day for a week.  You then can contact a lawyer for legal action. (Call a local attorney for more information).  It is legal for them to call between (your time zone) 8AM and 9PM as many times as they want regarding outstanding debt.  If you are not the party, or if they call before or after those times, it is considered harassment and is illegal.  Again, you will have to contact a lawyer for more details.

My parents once had a medical collector call their house every 20 minutes for a person that lived there before.  They tried numerous times to cease the calls with no luck.  They ended up taking legal action only to have the collection agency file bankruptcy before any settlement was made...so good luck!

I have been getting calls from this number (800-945-6596) but have been ignoring it or missing it, once I actually got a voicemail, but it was a girl sounding confused. Almost as if the automatic caller connected her to a call she thought was live but was just triggered by my voicemail message. It was a British sounding woman saying, "Hello? Hello. Hello?" trying to find the person on the line.
They call multiple times a day

I filed bankrupcy because I maxed out 7 credit cards when I was forced to be on prescription drugs for anxiety/depression. My cousin lived at our house shortly after, and had outstanding debt, so after my calls stopped post-bankrupcy, calls started/kept coming for her. We just didn't answer. She moved out withing 6 months, and hasn't lived here, or even in the same state, for about 2 years. I answered the phone for about 6 months, writing down every number that called, told them to take me off their list, that I was recording their number to make sure if they called back I would know that I had already told them to take me off, the calls stopped.
After about 4-5 months, 1 number started calling again. I figured Id answer and tell them that I had already told them she didn't live here, that I was assured our number was off the list months ago. They said they were sorry and the number would "for sure" be off the list, now. After answering that one call, the rest started calling again, so I went through the speil again.
The same cycle started over only it took about 1 month, this time. I didn't answer them, until today. I got a recording telling me to call the number back that was calling me, or go to AE.com (American Eagle Credit, or whatever). I called the number, was told to enter an account number. I just hit # until it told me I would get a real person (this is alot quicker than entering all 00000's).
Jackie came on within one minute, asked for my account number. I told her I don't have an account with them. She asked for the number being called. Gave her my number. She asked if I know Cathy xxxxxx, I said yes that is my cousin (same last name). She lived with us a short while, and hasn't lived here for 2 years, doesn't even live in this state, anymore. Asked  me if I knew her number. I said no/went on to say that Ive already spoken with AT LEAST 2 people who said our number wouldn't be called anymore. She said sorry and our name is "for real" off the list now.
I recorded what we said on paper and will be keeping it in a folder. If the number calls again, I will call back, with an atty's info in hand and threaten legal action if they don't stop....
