I got a call from this number, saying they were "Chase debit card fraud prevention".  To verify the number, I started with the number printed on the back of my debit card, and asked them what the number was for the "debit card fraud prevention department".

They gave me this same number, with no prompting from me.

I believe it is what it says it is.

Caller said that they were calling for fraud prevention. But were asking way to many questions and even where your social security state was. Very fishy!! Do not give them any information!!!

I let this call go to voicemail.  She said she was from Chase Fraud Prevention Department.  I called my bank at the usual phone number I use to call them and they were able to verify that the call did come from their fraud prevention department.

I also received a very weird and straight-forward call from 800.978.8664 asking for my information pertaining to my card. After giving my information, I realized what I had just done and began to get very nervous. So I tested the caller on the under end, and she was able to read off other transactions to me, as well as I gave false information which she stated was incorrect.

Still not completely sure of the call, I called Chase Bank using another number to confirm the call and the actions made. It was indeed Chase Bank, and they had been quick enough to stop my card from having too much money stolen.

Don't use non-Chase ATM's. That is my only suggestion. I used one while abroad, and now I have to deal with someone trying to steal my card information.

Got this call claiming they were Chase Debit Card Fraud, they needed my account number to acess my info, I would not give it to them, then they wanted my checking number or SS#, I said I do not know who you are and my bank would never request this information, she said to call the number on the back of my card or the branch, I said I would.
Upon calling my local branch office and told them of the incident, they said it was a fraudulant call and the bank would never ask for such info to access my account.

800.978.8664 is a legit phone # for chase debit card fraud prevention. They will call if anything looks suspicious... if they call and you answer they only ask one security question,  because they have your number on file, and if they call you it should be you answering the phone. however if you miss the call and call back they are going to ask for your card number and some additional information to verify your identity. when they answer do not  say "well you called me, you should be able to tell me my card number" they contact thousands of people everyday and will have no idea who you are upon calling back until you give information. They will tell you if you are concerned with the call, to call the number on the back of your card and ask to be transfered to debit card fraud prevention. They understand your concerns with identity theft, as they are fraud PREVENTION. thats why they ask those questions, a lot of them being questions you may have never been asked before. Why ask typical questions that anyone could know?--- on the other side.... someone stated they do not bank with chase a received a phone call like this. If you dont bank with chase, either someone has gotten your information, we called a wrong number, or it's not chase, it is someone phishing for your information. which is why i suggest if anyone calls claiming to be from chase, ask them what dept they are calling from, and advise that you will call them back thru the customer service #, by asking to be transfered.

800.978.8664 is a legit number from Chase debit card fraud prevention department.  They called me and left a message when they detected suspicious activity in my account.  I called Chase at the main number printed on the back of my debit card and confirmed that 800.978.8664 is from their debit card fraud prevention department.  They then transfered me to that department and there was a pending charge on my business account that I didn't make.

    800-978-8664 is 100% legit.
I work for Chase & this IS a valid phone number to the Debit card Fraud department.
If you get a call from this number & dont want to give any info then call the number on the card & ask for the Debit card fraud dept

You may get a call from this number but they ask you to call 877-572-0188, that is the same department but it is the automated system.

Hi. I also got a call on my answering machine from this number saying they were Chase Debit Card Fraud Prevention.  I called my actual Chase bank number, and verified that it is from Chase.  They connected me directly to the department.  They were checking on some recent charges to my account.  I'm always sceptical about calling any number I don't know, so if you're not sure, call your bank and double-check it.  In this case, the message was exactly what they said it was.

I also got a call from 800-978-8664 who asked for me by name, and they said they were from the Chase Fraud Dept.  The first question they asked was what state my Social Security Card originated from.  I asked them why they would need to know that and I did not give it out.  Instead, I called my local Chase bank and asked them for the phone number of the Chase Fraud Dept and the number they gave me was 800-978-8664.  Never give out any kind of personal information to anyone that calls or emails you.

Got a call from 800-978-8446 and they asked for the email address on the account to verify our information as a security question.  My husband did not give it to them and he asked why did they want our email address and the lady said that there was a red flag on some charges on our account and wanted to warn us about them but needed the info before she could give us the charges.  My husband say I don't think you are with Chase Fraud dept. so she said to call the number on the back of our debit card and ask to be transferred to the fraud dept.  So, we did just that.  And the fraud department said there were some charges that looked suspicious to them and they wanted to make sure the card was not stolen.  And it was true, my husband tried to use several different gas pumps at two different stations because he kept getting broken pumps so he tried the card like 4 times which is what gave them the red flag.  But this is a real chase number. I would still not give information if they called again, and just call the number on the back of my debit card and asked to be transferred to the fraud dept., just to be safe.

I received a voicemail on my cellphone stating this was a call to and stating my full name and said it had to do with my Chase debit card.  The message was sort of garbled so didn't catch the entire explanation but was asked to call back on the 800-978-8664 number.  I called back to the number that showed on my cell phone which was a Phoenix number and there was no answer.  I didn't call the 800 number.  However, after reading the last comment, I do remember using my card at a gas station recently and accidently hit the diesel fuel button instead of regular and cancelled the transaction. Since it appears from the other comments that the 800 number is a legitimate number for Chase's Fraud Dept., I'm assuming the call has to do with the cancelled transaction at the gas station.

Oh yes, that is a good number, it is Chase.  They just saved me over 1000.00 by stopped some creep in California from using my number.  Better call the branch and work it that way if your unsure.  But it was lagit.

The inexplicable thing is that when Chase Fraud Dept leaves voicemail, they can't just identify that you're calling back by asking for the last 4 digits of your ATM card, plus caller ID.  That's something you know (last 4 digits) plus something you have (your phone/awareness of a voicemail).  Caller ID can be faked, but having the phone to receive the original call/voicemail can't.

I'm amazed that Chase is willing to leave a voicemail that asks you to call a random number (different from the one on the back of the card) and then provide your full ATM/account number.  Sets an awful precedent.

I called back to the # on the back of my card and it was legit, but I'd advise everyone else to do the same rather than trusting comments on this (or any other) thread.

I got a call from this number, let it go to voicemail and it was a message from Chase Debit Fraud.
I called back and after verifying my account information she stated they saw suspicious activity on my debit card. I asked her what payments were suspicious and it was a payment I made for Frontline plus through a company I never used before. I didn't say the name of the company, she read me the name, their location and how much the charge was for.
She said that since I have never used this company for a purchase before they wanted to make sure I was still in posession of my card.
She said that my card was now activated again and was good to use.
If you don't call them back, they will suspend your debit card until you call them back.
I also asked her when they started implementing this b/c I've never gotten a call from Chase debit fraud before. She said they have been starting a new fraud prevention with flagging people's accounts on charges that haven't been made or from company's the person hasn't used before.
I'm so glad they called and asked me that. It's great to know Chase Bank is really working to help me with fraud!!

I dialed this number, it was the number that was on the activation tape for my new Chase Debit/ check card.  They (Chase Fraud department)  had called me at 6 :30 am the week before saying I had possible  misuse on my card, I had ordered something online, and it went to a 3rd party billing. "Thus, they allerted me imeadiatly. This is a real number. at it is legit. I am not sure about some of the comments that ihave read on this page, some of them sound almost paranoid. Why would the number be incorrect, if it were the number that was the activation number on the card. besides that, he only wanted the last 4 digits of the new card.
