Yes, this is Chase Fraud Department. Essentially, when there is a 'potential threat' they want to send out a new card. I have been surprised too by getting this call

I don't know what agenda some people have but after reading some of the posts on here I went to Chase and all but emptied my account. After that I talked to the branch manager and he confirmed that this IS Chase correct number and repeated everything that was said to me over the phone.

You got to wonder if people get there jollies by making others panic? This was my business account so I wasn't taking any chances. If you were told this was a phishing scam by someone at Chase, I'm sure they would like to know who told you this.. Guess I am glad I confirmed this at my branch but If it wasn't for busy bodies with nothing else to do but cause extra stress, I would of never gave it a second thought. Please go back to Face Book.

This # is part of a complete fraud. I was contacted by them via a voicemail and text message and told that my Chase account had been compromised, my card was canceled and that a new card was on my way.

Well, lo and behold, a week later, no new card has arrived and my old one works fine. There is no message or warning online on my Chase account, which there typically is if there is an issue (I've legit had it happen before). There was never any security issue.

Bottom line: Don't give any information to these people should they ask you. Ignore their calls and messages.

And to those buying the "I work for Chase" line, think about it: Who has something to gain here? I have no stake in the matter whatsoever, besides trying to help people, to call out a fraud attempt when I see it. But these "Chase employees"? Not to get too tin hat-y, but I'd bet my button they're in on the scam.

This is legitimate. I bank at Chase because a friend of mine is the VP of the branch. I received a text message followed by a voice mail from this number stating that my card had been compromised and they were issuing me a new one. I called my friend and he looked up my account within their system. It stated that the card had been compromised, they issued me a new one via U.S. mail today and my old one would be cancelled 3 weeks from yesterday. In the meantime, my daily withdrawal amount and purchase amount have both been drastically lowered until my new card arrives and the old one is cancelled. They recommend I keep an eye on my account and report any activity that is not mine.

They DID NOT ask me to call back when they left the voice mail; only said they were issuing a new card and if I had any questions, I should call the number on the back of the card. If this had been a scam, they would have wanted me to call back at a different number in order to try and get info from me.

Only call the Chase numbers on the back of your cards, on your statements, and/or on the Chase website after you have verified it.  I have been receiving scam / fraud calls and emails from 800-355-5265.  They are referencing the last four digits of an account that was closed years ago.  I have turned them in to the FBI, FTC and Chase.  The last call they made I told them they have been turned in and they have stopped calling.  Their email was full of typos, and the calls with the automated system seem legit.  I answered all their questions wrong so as not to give them any information, and then let the live person have it.  I am disturbed that they did have some info on me already, but luckily it was a closed account.

BE CAREFUL!  The fraud people are posting in all these threads trying to say the phony numbers are legitimate.  Don't fall for it.  Only call the verified Chase numbers as I described above.

My ex and I both got calls from this phone # 800-355-5265
When I called Chase's main # they said yes it was their fraud phone #, but the problem was with my ex's debit card, not mine. When I called my ex, he had already called them and what they wanted was to sell him fraud protection ins. So, I think we can add Chase to telemarketers who want to find a way to steal whatever money we have left... how sad that a repuutable bank would stoop that low. To call and say they are the fraud dept...why don't you pay us for fraud protection. the banks are supoposed to protect us from fraud without us paying them to do so. Sad! Shame on you, CHASE

Got a call from this number and they said they needed to verify my PIN before they could tell me what's up. While I was waiting for the transfer I checked this very site and decided it was legit. Unfortunately I was cut off before the verification could happen. They called back. We tried again. I was cut off again. They called back. We tried a third time. It didn't work, so they said they would make a note in my file, and I should call the number on the back of my card to find out what they needed to tell me.

Here's where it gets interesting. I call the number on my Chase card and they verify that this is indeed the number for Chase debit card fraud. But there is no note in my file. So I have them transfer me to the debit card fraud department. There is no unusual activity, and no log of anyone having called me. So they now think I was scammed. I point out that the call came from their own number, and they are absolutely perplexed.

My conclusion: either Chase is extraordinarily disorganized, or someone who actually works for Chase was trying to scam me. I tend to think the former.

This is in fact the Chase fraud hotline. I went into my local chase branch and had one of the employees call that number and he talked to the lady on the phone and it was indeed a chase number.

Got message and call from this number, they left message said my account is closed on July 25th,please active the new card. I was really confused since  I just opened new account not long ago. I call the chase customer service, they transfer my call to the fraud prevention department, she explained that someone was  trying to hack my account,so they compromised my old account and issued me new card. OK, I'll check my mailbox and see whether I got new card or not.

Yes this number is legit. I originally called a number from Chase's website because my card was getting declined online (Also with online poker involved). They had to connect me to the fraud department and gave me this number as well. 800 978 8664. It's nice to actually see that Chase is taking care of it's clients and protecting us from fraud.

Got a call from this number. It coincited with an email from Chase Bank regarding a potential breach of security with our debit card. And that they were issuing a replacement. BUT BEWARE!!!! These days, it is very possible to mimic a caller ID. Do not ever give out information over the phone, even if you believe it to be true. PrankCall.com can call you using one of your known caller IDs and prank you. So if they can, thieves can too.

This number 800-978-8664 is in fact Chase Fraud Dept. i received a text, e-mail and a secure message when i logged into my account online. I called the number on the back of my debit card 800-935-9935 after refusing to provide my SS number to them and Chase confirmed that 800-978-8664 is their Fraud Dept. and that in fact my card has been cancelled and that they are investigating the fraudulent purchases. i currently sit at a loss of $377.18 pending thier investigation. so frustrated right now... Damn you scamming, theiving losers.

THIS IS THE CORRECT AND VALID NUMBER FOR THIS DEPT OF CHASE: Debit Card Fraud Prevention (Dept direct # is 800-978-8664) (Fact: Call the phone number on the back of your actual Chase card and get to a representative, then ask them to transfer you to "Debit Card Fraud Prevention" and they will) This dept within Chase uses a sophisticated fraud detection software program that will send out various alerts when it finds something suspicious occurring on a debit card that needs to be verified as a valid or not valid transaction as quickly as possible in order to minimize loss to the customer and bank. The system will send text alerts (only from 95686), IVR calls (may give call back # 800-355-5265 with a reference # for the IVR to pull your information up), it also sends email alerts and a letter in the mail. When the automated system calls you it asks you 3 multiple choice security questions that is actually obtained from public records to further identify you. The security questions are unusual because their department gets calls from thieves posing as customers so Chase selected security questions that are less likely to be known by the "fraudster". If an actual representative calls you to verify debit card activity they still have to ask their customer on the phone security questions to make sure they are talking to the right person. But of course if you have never received a call/alert from their dept its natural to question if they are legit. They will tell you to call the # on the back of your Chase debit card (so you know its Chase and they can ask you the security questions) then ask to be transferred to Debit Card Fraud Prevention and they will transfer you. If you don't believe it's Chase then you could always reply to the alert that the transactions are not valid and it will block the card from being used (WHICH WOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE TO DO IF IT WASN'T CHASE) Chase is a really large bank with many departments but they ALL strive to give their customers the best service, accessibility, and even fraud prevention services. Which I also doubted when I got my first alert from them and had to call the # on my card to verify it was Chase and then they saw an alert on my account and I immediately got transferred to fraud prevention who ended up taking such quick action on my card that the thieve who got a hold of my information got blocked when he tried to get away with a large amount of money.

Being in the Banking industry for over 20 years I know a legit call from a scam......the number that called me 800 978 8664 is legit. It is Chase calling. It is not a scam.

They called to inform me of possible hacking/scamming to my debit card.

I would take this call serious.

I don't know what any of these people on this thread are talking about that are saying that this is a legit chase number. It's NOT A LEGIT CHASE CALL. They must be a part of the scam. I also received a call this morning from the robo voice from this number saying that I had fraudulent charges on my chase account. I was instructed to call back this number with a reference number I was given. I did not call this number back after reading these posts and decided to call the chase number on the back of my card. The woman I spoke with let me know that there were no fraudulent charges on my card, my account had not been flagged, and they have not sent out any texts or calls regarding my account. She also informed me that many other people have also called about the exact same issue and IT IS A SCAM. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK. You should either report it to chase or just ignore it.
