I'm really annoyed that I got this message yesterday evening, (the one that says something about songs and ringtones, which I've never downloaded on this number!).  I ignored it, thinking it was spam, but got a message today warning me about my low credit!  I was really annoyed to find that an unsolicited spam text cost me £1.50. I've contacted Virgin, and I'm not putting any credit on my phone until I'm sure this is sorted.  It's great all this info is available though!  Unfortunately, I bet the company makes so much profit from this that the fines don't bother them!

Thanks for all the info. Just got one of these texts. I've made a complant to www.phonepayplus.org.uk and will try contacting WinPLC

Is there anyway of simply blocking a number? I pretty sure i will never want to recieve anything from 85222, so it seems like it should be possible (i'm on o2)

But just to reiterate whats been said... if you've got one of these PLEASE COMPLAIN! if a company sends out thousands of these, but only a few people complain and get money back, they will still make loads of money and continue to exist. The more we complain the less profitable it is for them, especially if they get a big fine

Having complained to phonepayplus in July I have now received a report with the outcome of a tribunial against the 85222 comany and its multiple company connections. An investigation and tribunial was held and the company have been fined 40,000 pounds, received a formal reprimand, ordered that the service provider remedy the breaches which were upheld and were ordered to refund the full amount spent by users, except where there was good cause to believe such claims were not valid.

    the adudication is available at
    http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/output/Search-adjudications-1.aspx

    refunds can be claimed at:

    Customer services
    Expanding Vision Limited
    4/6 Dalton Square
    Lancaster
    LA1 1PP
    customerservices@expandingvision.co.uk

Well done to phonepayplus for making these people pay for the hassle and finance they have cost all of us. Hopefully this will be an end to it!

Hi, sorry IGNORE that last posting, turns out it was for a complaint against a different number. The 85222 case and prosecution is still ongoing.

Dont use that address or email for refunds - use the method I wrote about in July.

I received 6 text messages from 85222 and 1 from 85200. All these msg has DANI643. Within 36 hours, my intial top up was deducted £13.00 fom these txts. I was furious! I called O2 and got the same reply as everybody's else, that they don't have the facility to block the number from sending txt. I was advised to reply 'STOP' to 85222. Did as told and got a reply back from 85222 saying, 'FREE MSG. Thank you for your STOP message. The last service from the short code requested will be stopped for your phone within one working day.' Now, after googling around, most people didn't manage to stop it. I called O2 and explained that I'm not prepared to sit down and wait for more credit to be deducted while 85222 try to stop it in 24 hours. The O2 advisor actually told me that it won't stop in 24 hours but can continue for 9 days as by law any company can takes up this length of time to finally stop sending msg. Well then! Apparently, 85222 is a company dealing in games, ringtones etc. Marketing Grace ( my hubby at work investigated to inform me later ). Apparently, I downloaded some kinda game...I told the O2 guy, try have 3 children under 5 and see if he can have time to sit down and have a cup of tea let alone downloading stuffs! Anyone who can, well done but not me! The only way is to change number which I did straight away. For O2 not to have the facility blocking msg, it's hard to believe however, for being such a great help to suggest number changed and get it done straight away with comp only after investigating the initial number records, I think its' appropriate. To many outhere who has the same problem, get it solved straight away through O2 customer service. Don't believe the reply after your 'STOP' msg. I maybe nagging here but it's the truth, someone got to do it!

I have just this second recieved a text from 85222 and I'm on a contract phone, I got mine from ''lisa'' and I know full well that I have NOT signed up to any such service, I am, however, unsure about who to contact and such to get this sorted out. I also have a different number at the end of my text, I get given the number 01416264228 to call, but I don't particularly want to waste my contract money on this.

My daughter is receiving them at least once a month and it is really frustrating!  Put money on last week and on the 12/3 £1.50 was taken off her credit!  Last month it happened twice.  What can we do to stop this from happening?  Perhaps a change of sim card will help.

    Mr XYZ
    Same problem here.
I just called http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk who regulate the premium rate numbers. They contacted the relevant company on my behalf to report the abuse. The company (WIN (Wireless Information Network) Ltd) contact me that same day and removed my number from the system and also offered me a full refund of the £1.50. I refused this as I would have to give them my address, but the issue is now resolved.
