866-667-3307 called my mothers home and asked to speak to me. She answered and they said it was ARO (Agency Recovery Ogilvie), quoted a reference number and passed the message on. I don't know who these people are. I looked the name up (though they could say they are anybody anyway, all kinds of congames out there). Apparently Agence de Recouvrement Ogilvie is a large collection agency. I don't believe this number is anything to do with ARO and if I phone they'll try to convince me that I money. I'm thinking if I should phone the actual numbers on the ARO website (aro.ca) to see what they say about this, but I can't be bothered and they probably all speak french anyway.

This number keeps calling my FIDO/Rogers mobile. It seems I'm in a botnet.

They are collection agency. you will receive calls from them and other. they probably have the wrong data.
BUT
What ever you do DONT give them you name if they don't have it or any other personal information! you don't want your information to be linked to somebody else problems.

I love these calls. They are calling for the wrong person, so I screw around with them, it's very funny. Sometimes I pretend to be Chinese, or I just make funny noises until they hang up. I really want to fart in the mouthpiece while their listening, that's my ambition. I hope they keep on calling, just as long as they're not bothering the poor sucker who actually owes them money I'm happy with it.

this is an illegal phishing company, they use a fake database to find out who you really, they will call for joe blow, but they are really looking for you and want your called ID and they hope you are dumb enough to give them your name. I set them up with a false name and guess what, they exchange info with other agencies illegally,  the day I told them my fake name a second company started calling for the fake name. this is nothing but a collection agency with criminal nazi camp style tactics which are all illegal in Canada. if you can't get them to stop calling report it to the CRTC. they will fine them and the calls will stop.

I did as well, at my parents house, they keep calling. my mom put them in their place...we have several people in our fam. by the same name...if it is a collection agency, then they have the wrong house...there has to be law for them to stop calling us here. we have nothing to do with it. kept asking me questions about my father's, or whomever person they were asking for's - birthdate etc. don't give them personal info!  I should of said, "None ya".

Got calls from this number 3 to 6 times a week for few months already,ignored them. I never answer any call when the caller's name is unknown.  Does anyone know how to stop this annoying calls.  I don't owe anybody even a penny.

that doesnt work. calling them or taking their calls to tell them for the umteenth time that they have the wrong number dosent matter. they keep calling!!!!!!!!!!!! i have had to change my phone number now 3x in the last month at $75 each time. my number is private and unlisted, and is also on the do not call list, so how are they getting my number to begin with? also i have no idea who this man is they are looking for and they wont stop calling me no matter what i say. i have contacted a lawyer now, how im going to pay for it being on a disability pention is beyond me. this ARO has to stop calling. they call me min 13x a day starting at 7am-11-11:30pm even on sundays!!! im sick and tired of it, so dont say they will stop calling if you tell an agency that they have the wrong number. the worst part is the [***] that keeps calling yells at me, swears at me and threatens me. she also argues with me telling me she KNOWS he lives here and spoke to him before at my number which is total BS. she wont tell me what its about or who shes collecting for.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to actions that can be taken against this? I mean solid, concrete type. Like the Better Business Bureau or something.

They have just actually called me twice today!

Once at 8:32 am and just now at 10:34 am. And those two wont be the last.

these people call and they ask for my FULL name and DATE OF BIRTH...and all this information to a COMPLETE STRANGER. Isn't that an invasion of privacy?

These jokes of a collection agency have been calling me at 5:30 AM. That's right, 5:30 in the morning, asking for me. They wouldn't tell me what they wanted unless I gave them my social. Told them I didn't have it and they refused to give me any info.

We've resorted to unplugging our phones at night so we're not disturbed from our damned sleep from these idiots. Definitely not worth dealing with.

I called them back today because I answered and nobody was there. I actually did get ahold of somebody and asked them what or who was calling me. She replied "It could be many different things, I can't give you specifics, sorry. I'll get someone to call you back" It was really weird...I have no idea what they want, I definitely don't owe any money!

Every month we get a number of calls from this number and they never answer when we call them back. We have our home number on the do not call list, but this business does not respect that list. Who the heck are they? and How do I get off their calling list?

I received a call from ARO.  I asked who was calling and at first they didn't respond.  I asked again and she (Peggy) said "I am calling on behalf of the city of Ottawa".  I told her that she had reached me.  Then she got nasty and told me I owed the $400.00.  Now, I asked again who she was because being nasty from the City of Ottawa doesn't seem to be appropriate and respectful behaviour.  She then said "I am calling from ARO".  Baffled, I said " What is ARO". Of course she said a collection agency.  I told her that I did not appreciate the fact that she misrepresented herself on the phone, ie. lied.  She got nasty again and said "Don't you know what " on behalf" means.  

Can I sue the ARO and Peggy for misrepresentation?  Is it a criminal offence or civil offence?  For how much can I sue? $1 million?

Oh my god, were going through the exact same. It never ends. Talked to supervisor today and they said sorry , accidental again because of the 5 files they have on this person. They promise to delete our number from their directory and it never happens. They actually called again. I am calling Telus to record the amount of calls and am saving all messages. This company is going down. I will not be harassed any longer!!!
