i was told by a friend that it was free but i guess that is not the case i answered and it connected for two seconds and then said i had to pay in order to accept future calls if they are paying for phone cards on the inside why is the phone company tring to double dip the calls.

So what the hell?  I have a friend in jail, but am getting mixed answers...  Is it a scam, or is he trying to call me?!?

How did this company get my number ????

My Husbond got this same phone call on a buisness phone. We called them. We did get to talk to a lady she said they didn't make the call that you had to have an account first, and wanted to know if we wanted to set one up. We asked her to take that phone Number off their calling list since it was a buisness number. She ask us why we called them then. We had to explaine again that he did not call them. She then asked how we got the number to call. We told her we just hit redial. All she asked was if we wanted to set up an account.  AH NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

I'm in Florida and got a call to my cell phone in the early AM.  It was someone I know and he had been arrested in Nebraska.  I hit one to accept the call, talked to him for 5 seconds and then it hung up on us saying I did not setup an account and would have to do that.  I hit one again to setup the account and it hung up on me.  When I called the number back it said I needed to enter the number I was trying to contact...Ugh just let me setup an account and talk to him.  I called the jail he was at and the officer said that is the only phone they can use and was not helpful with how to be able to talk to him if the phone system isn't allowing me to setup an account.  Very frustrating!

I just received a call at 12:55pm on my cell phone from this number....I don't know anyone at the Madison County Correctional Center and don't know how they got my number. I did not connect so hopefully I will not be charged for the call.....I did call the do not call # a few days ago so hopefully it will kick in by next month. I'm curious to know how they got my number?????? Interesting...

got call at 8:50 a.m. on my cell phone, needless to say that early in the morning it better be a damn good reason, otherwise i'm ignoring you and staying asleep! checked for messages later when I woke up and it was a jerk that i know, in jail who i rarely talk to and see. wow i guess i'm a friend when he's alone and locked up, and where are all his so called other wonderful friends when he's in jail?

i got a call that said my sherrifs department from this number but it is a 866 number i hung up

i got i call from this number but he just say im in jail call this number 347 and the call broke up

Received this call today with a computerized voice stating it was from Orleans Parish Prison (New Orleans) - you could hear a male voice mumbling something in the background. I just hung up. Totally bogus and aggravating.

Just got a ball like everyone else. Except it was to my son's cell phone which he is under 18. Total scam. We don't know anyone in prison.

Whenever someone gets to make a call from jail while waiting for court hearing.since a person has no money in when 1st put in jail this company provides collect calling for them @ your expense.dont do it unless you really love them, its very costly. i just recieved a call this mornin @10.50 Estern and 2 days prior i was the 1st phone call from a high school friend wantin a co sighner on a bail bond to get out of hell.Hope this answers alot of yalls questions.... hell of a way to make money!! Wish i had thought of that...

I recieved this call today, tried to call back and it was Correctional Billing Services. I know this [***] that got arrested a week ago, and he want's me to get him out. :( Too bad, I don't trust him as a friend. So even if all the people you know and you are close with are fine, there must be some [***] that want's your help. They must have got your number, from somebody you know and that knows your number, they don't just call randomly...

Yes, this call is a company that Correctional Facilities hire to handle calls from prisoners and people being detained.  IT IS NOT A SCAM!! Our son called at 4 a.m. but we didn't pick up the phone quick enough, and if you call the number back you can't get any iformation.  Problem is the service does not say what County the call is from.  We called 5 surrounding counties before we finally located our son. The whole system is HORRIBLE and we were certainly be filing a complaint with the County who used this service.

I got a phone call from this number this morning around 10:45 am. When I answered after the 2nd ring it just hung up. I know I have recieved calls from a friend in prison before and when I answered on the second ring it hung up. But on the third ring, it went through. Weird Aye? But yeah. The number is a number they use in many diff. prisons. I read some in georgia, ny, nj and places like that. But more than likely it is someone near you. I mean my friend lives in NC. So yeah. This aint a number linked to one state or whatever.

its not a scam. youre getting a call from an inmate in a correctional facility that happens to have an exclusive contract with correctional billing services for all their inmates' calls.

in order for them to contact you you have to call correctional billing services and put money on your account. its essentially a collect call.
