They call and call from that Merrick Bank. They keep telling me about a collection due for my 74 yrs old father. He has never once had a credit card. We had cleared (so we thought) this matter in 2005. They even had the wrong birth date but, they keep telling me it's my father. This is b/s.
What can we do to report them. Should I go to Credit Bureau to file report?

They keep calling me repeatedly like several times a day. I do not know who they are. The strange part is I have had an account with the places people mention here. I do not remember if I have ever answered when they call so do not know who they are.

I have a load of these calls on my cell. Never answer them. don't know who is calling, bu I am on the do-not-call list. Guess that doesn't stop the calls. Calss action lawsuit anyone?

Oh this company was a lovely one.... they just called again 8:30 AM on Saturday morning.  It was a Next cArd I got through My points, when they went under the transferred to Merrick who raised the interest rate from 6.9 to 30%, I only used this card online to get the points, paid it off and told them I can get a better interest deal from the guys a giovanni's done the street.

That was 5 years ago.  Now they say they are a collection agency collecting on this debt. I have seen this before especially at Tax time, I once spoke to a collection rep from Kirby sweepers (which I had paid off a year before) quite nice he said they buy these accounts in lots paid or unpaid.  And that he works on base plus commission He said out of the 100 cases he gets 75% will pay something even if the debt has already been paid just to stop the calls and that 50% will pay the whole amount.

I said how can you sleep at night knowing you duped people, he said " on a very comfortable sleigh bed with my gorgeous girlfriend who enjoys the money I make"

I got a call today from this number said they were a collector from Carvard for Merrick Bank..Said if I didn't set up an AW to be taken out each month, it would then next step court.. I set up an amount to be taken out once a month, as I do owe Merrick. I gave them important information which I pray was not a scam.

Instead of hitting one or two, hit 0. it will forward you to an operator. At this point you can talk to a person face to face.

In my case they were calling for "Michael Martinez" I told the lady that there was nobody by Michael Martinez at my phone number, and to take me off their call list. I told her to have a nice day, the tone in her voice picked up as if it was a change of pace. Be nice to these people, they work for a bank, I'm willing to bet they catch [***] all day. Just hit 0, be polite, explain your situation.

I get calls on the average of 4-5 times daily, starting in the mornings at around 8:00AM, and ending around 8:45 at night, and this is every day. I used to get frustrated, but not anymore; I just don't answer.

These guys call every morning at 8:15, several times during the day, and between 7:30 and 8:30 every day - including Sunday.  They never leave a message, don't say anything if you answer, and are always closed if you call them.  I wish they would find something to do besides ring my phone.

They call and when you answer, they hang up.  Have received no correspondence by mail, and have worked w/ Merrick so I am assuming this is a scam again

After calling the don't call number, for which I have made a complaint, I am still receiving calls from them.  I would like it stop.  A name of the company or the person calling is not left on the voice mail. Once I returned the call and a very rude woman refuse to give my the companies name etc.

Call every hour on the hour.  Called them back - I believe they said they were card services and would remove me from their call list.  If it is NextCard, I haven't had a balance with them in years.

I have received several calls also and they never answer.  HELP!!!!!

Marlene - If you have caller ID do not answer.  They are nothing but a bunch of scumbags operating out of a "boiler room."  My bank warned me about them and don't give them any info. Congress could stop them if they wanted to; they are a sorry lot also. They will give up eventually.

They call 2 or 3 times a day. Leave no message. Who are they and what do they want?

I'm fairly certain this number belongs to a debt collection company called Collectcorp. They have called me repeatedly on my cell number (illegal since I never gave them permission) and each time when I answer, there is a pause and then they disconnect. I did get someone to talk to me one time on July 13th and he admitted they use an autodialing system. All this has happened after I received a letter from them in early June 2010. I responded with a certified letter but the individiual who I conversed with on the one phone call acted as if they knew nothing about the letter. I have the return receipt so I know someone there signed for it. By the way, that same individual acted surprised he was calling a cell phone number (I don't have a landline).

I am absolutely certain it's a debt collection company but for whom (i.e. BoA, Citi, Chase, Advanta), I don't know; but sadly, I owe them all!    

Please know that I am NOT a 'dead-beat' am I looking for a "free-lunch"!   I contacted these creditors for months on end, BEGGING FOR HELP  --WAY before I decided on the Debt-Settlement or possible Bankruptcy alternative.

Rather than file bankruptcy, I have been working with a reputable debt-settlement company and although these collections companies are supposed to contact my attorney --and Not Me-- they each continue to call several times a day.  ...Geez, even my kids now know the numbers and will not answer!

...But it's amazing what they are now willing to help with since they've received NADA in well over nine-months!  ...Problem is, interest on one of the debts is almost as high as the original debt itself.

Anyway, for any Honest Person struggling to just get by, do the best you can.  The option I chose, which I'm extremely happy with, may not be the option for someone else.

$500.00 per incident fine if they call your cell phone using an autodialer and it's personal debt (not business debt) AND they never had permission to use that number.  Check out the FCA laws.  I'm actually tracking this one ... I could use the money :)

We hired a debt collection attorney too...here's what he doesn't tell you. If the plan becomes too expensive, and you drop out, like we did. HE keeps all of the money (save for a small amount) that you gave him to settle. We lost 22,000 to some scumbag down in the OC

They are merrick bank.i had an account with them.after being screwed by them i canceled my account.they proceded to rack up overlimit and late payment fees.every time i call them i get "all attendants are busy please stay on the line for next available attendant.must only be one S.O.B. As i once waited half an hour.no one ever picks up.they wont identify themselved or leave messages.no one evev there when i do answer.BALLS!
