A lady keeps calling saying that she is Mary from the message center and has a personal matter to discuss.

This is a fraudulent collection agency called American Agencies attempting to collect money for accounts that never existed.

A recorded msg to my cell phone from Mary at a message center wanting to discuss something important with me.  I called and after an undecipherable message with muzak, someone with a thick offshore accent (Caribbean?) confirmed my number, put me on hold for about two minutes, then wanted to talk with Stacey.  Not at this number.

Same as other comments - a recording says that they have a personal matter to discuss and need me to call them back at 877-728-8912. I do not return calls like this, but this is getting really annoying.

I received such a call to both my home and cell phone.

I have received two of these messages from a recording of a woman named Mary from the message center wanting to discuss a personal matter and to call 877-728-8912.  They never mentioned whom the call was for so, out of curiosity, I called back after the second message.  I got a recording naming the company as American Agencies (it even sounds like a fake name).  I have never heard of this company and so I hung up after that.  If they don't name a contact in their message, it is most likely a sales call or a scam of some sort.

AMERICAN AGENCIES....i just got a call..said i owe at&t over $1,000 from back in 96!!!! well come to find out they had the wronge guy..same name..wronge guy..then i thought..wait! a sec!..how in the heck did they get my number! it's a work phone,not under my name, and the times i did put it any where, i thought i was putting it on a secured site!!..wth!

same thing about a mary with a personal matter to discuss. They call everyday ugh.It is a pain.

I also have received several calls from "Mary from the Message Center with a personal matter to discuss" asking me to call 1-877-728-8912.  I am just ignoring these calls.  Anyone who does not identify themselves and state the reason for their call does not deserve a return call.

Calls 3-4 days a week and says I have to call to resolve a personal matter.  No company or details regarding matter offered on message.

Damn! I called them back. Is this company for real? What should I do next? They said they  were calling on behalf of At&t / Pacific Bell. I demanded they send me proof in the mail, so now they have my address...

Just started getting these calls - two so far.  Seems very suspicious to me.

Same Kathy as above.  I called my phone company and they suggested I call the number and give them my phone number but not my name.  They already have my number so I wouldn't be giving them anything new.  Turns out they were looking for someone else entirely - who probably made up a phone number that turned out to be mine.  I advised this company to remove my number from their system and to quit calling me - which they said they would do and that the calls should stop within 48 hours.  We'll see.

They're a collection agency based in Torrance, CA. They just started calling me about an old telephone account I had TEN YEARS AGO, that they claim I still owe a balance on.

I've been receiving phone calls from this same company, American Agencies, at first from a woman named Mary who wanted to discuss a business matter; received the first call back in September.  I foolishly returned the call (as I usually don't), and got a woman with a thick accent who told me they were calling on behalf of AT&T/Pacific Bell, regarding an unpaid balance dating back to 1996, which amounted to $1500!!!!  While I did live in CA, I moved in 1996, and paid the bill in full upon moving.  I informed her that I knew of NO EXISTING BALANCE, and furthermore and NEVER received a bill nor a phone call SINCE 1996.  I told her to mail the bill and any information backing up her statements (and then proceeded to give her my address - which they DID NOT KNOW - the second foolish mistake I made) to me.  Have YET TO RECEIVE ANY SUCH RECORDS, but STILL RECEIVE A CALL EVERY MONTH OR SO, which I DO NOT ANSWER NOR RESPOND TO!!  I'm at a total loss as to what to do!!

1-8-08, at work I called it back and was put on hold. I have work to do. Wasn't the first time won't be the last, I just want to talk to someone to blow off steam from a long day, that's all "Mary" is good for.

To stop them, call them after 8:00am - 5:00pm and asking them remove your phone number out of their list. I was got message everyday, yeah, same message.
The reason is the phone number you have was using by someone, and that person had bad credit. Or your ex-roommate, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend using your number as record to purchase something. I am sorry about "Mary" - she just a name of message center.

My father received a call on his cell phone. Tried to call back no answer. Looked up "American Agencies" on the web got a different number called it, woman said she tried to call her client, must have got wrong number. Likly story!

Rec'd a call from this number, they left a voicemail message.  
"Mary from the Message Center" about "a personal matter" and giving this number.
Needless to say, I didn't call back. They called a business.  Looks like they'r pharming phone numbers...

Most likely a scam IMO.

Does anyone know how to stop the calls?
