In December 2012 When I called the school after the return due date, the school told me that my card will get charge and don't bother returning the book. In Sept 2013 Samantha Miller called me and I paid Crystal Moroney $148.00 plus $7.00 process fee for a book I rented for $49.00. The balance from the school was $124.00. SM told me that I owed $294.00 and if tI don't take care of it, the balance will increase lot more. I had a funny feeling about them, after I requested a receipt and never received one.
Then after that payment I sopped hearing from them for two months, and this morning SM called and told me to call her and said she held my file longer than she should. From the start, I should have known they were scammers because all she had was my name and phone number.

    What? replies to JC
How does that prove they are scammers?

They are not scammers. I have been paying a business account that went into default with one of my providers a year and a half ago due to the economy tanking.  For the last 3 months I have had my lawyer working with them to resolve the debt and everything checked out legit and the provider I owed confirmed they were handling the account on its behalf.  I hope this post helps someone.  I know it is scary out there with all the scams and hacking that goes on.  good luck to you all.

My college uses them to collect on their books. It wasn't a scam, I have the copy of the contract and receipt....me not returning the book caused fees to be incurred -so is life...I paid and didn't have a problem, in fact the woman I spoke to there was really nice. Next semester I will definitely remember to take the books back!

Let's dial back through this thread a little. 14.5 weeks ago I had linked you to a comment I had made to Lasardo two weeks before that.
    https://800notes.com/forum/ta-46c44373709cfbd- ... 749110911895009

In that reply I had linked to the NELG Contact web page, which I will repeat:
    http://nelgllc.com/Contact-Us.html

That page currently presents the same address in Goshen, NY that was there when I first saw the page in late January. USPS lists this as a valid deliverable address. Next I'll show you what I got for a little extra keyboard pecking.

On the guest list of a debt collection industry trade show in September 2011 is one Bradley J. Rephen, President of Northeast Legal Group. The list gives a street address of 17 Squadron Boulevard in New City, NY.
    http://www.midatlanticcollectors.org/Attendees15Sept.pdf

Here's the Manta business listing for Rephen Law Firm, housed in the same building in Suite 320:
    http://www.manta.com/c/mm3q926/rephen-law-firm

Here's the Martindale listing for Mr. Rephen, listed as a partner in Minsky & Rephen, found straight down the hall in Suite 305:
    http://www.martindale.com/Bradley-J-Rephen/534537-lawyer.htm
(Martindale is the who's-who resource for attorneys, a good site for debunking any potential fraud who claims to be a lawyer.)

USPS also considers 17 Squadron to be valid. The same building also hosts an office for Wachovia/Wells Fargo just below Rephen's bunch in Suite 200.

An older 800Notes comment (Dec 2008) pegged Rephen's office at 41 Powder Horn Drive in Wesley Hills, NY. USPS says it's really in Suffern, but this address too can accept mail.

Suffern and New City are neighboring towns in Rockland County, just south of West Point. Yes, *that* West Point, where the soldiers are training. Goshen is dead west of the Academy in abutting Orange County, home to the Harness Racing Museum, f/k/a Trotting Horse Museum. (Who knew there was one?)

Point being, NELG and/or Rephen is not a moving target so much as a swaying one, keeping to the same region for at least the past 3.5 years. If you cannot spot a target for your summons from any of that, you might ask Northeast Legal Group *and* Rephen Law Firm secretary Angelica Anzueto where she parks her car on weekdays:

The above Fun Facts To Know and Tell were compiled within a couple of hours tonight. I have access to the same websites and search engines as you would at home and no more. Maybe all of the above are blind alleys, in which case I would drill into PACER for any cases involving NELG or its Prez .... Well, I would if I had funding for ten cents a page. The free but incomplete RECAP archive gave me zilch. But anyway, here is my other sharper point ....

Why after three months is your guy still coming to you with a shrug and saying, "Duuuuhh, aawl I gots is dis PO box"? (For that matter, I find no USPS or private box associated with Rephen or NELG.) At this pace, you'll be filing your FDCPA case around Xmas, after the SoL expires on your claims. But what do I know, I'm just a pro se apprentice in a mystery phone call discussion forum and your lawyer makes $300 an hour and has a staff of paralegals pulling $40K a year. I guess they are physically incapable of sending teaser Cert Mail at a whopping $5.75 apiece to possible addresses to see which ones bounce back, and their phones are all broken or else they'd have tried all the listed numbers. Yeah, that office needs help, alright.

I agree that your tormentors need to pay and you can't rest until they do. The various complaint forums for both NELG and Rephen have stories like yours full of dubious "hot check" claims and illegal threats and other abusive treatment. They've also tended to attract a high percentage of illiterate trolls who defend the collectors with the usual "Pay Youse Bills" rants. They won't make your job easy, I suspect, but there are only so many rocks they can hide under before you kick over the right one and swing your club.

    JJ, and all others:

I checked on this so called Crystal Morony Law Office .. I have serious reservations that she is a legit office. When you check the website (http://www.crystalmoroneylaw.com/Contact_Us.html) and look at their addressit is in the same location as a UPS store.. When ever you see a suite # with an address check the address out. I found the following website (http://www.cockeyed.com/citizen/spam/nanuet.html) even thought it does not show the suite # 390 it shows where the mail is going (and them probably redirected).

interesting the emails from the website I found (www.cockeyed....) came from a company called Crystal Traffic .. See the following forum showing other addresses being listed at otherUPS Stores

I am with you Carolyn.  They are legitimate.  My son forgot to return a rented textbook.  2 years and $170 bucks later.  The only thing is no one contacted us by mail.  Only once it was $203 dollars.

JUST A HEADS UP YOU STILL HAVE A LEAK IN YOUR OFFICE. AS TO THE REST OF YOU FOLKS CHECKING THIS OUT. CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN (CRYSTAL MORONEY) AND PAY THERE CLIENT DIRECTLY, IT WILL SAVE YOU AT MINIMUM 150.00 PER BOOK. https://www.fedchex.com/main/index.php

Brad you wasted mine and my daughter's time, we went to the website you listed and even called them and they told us the account was not resolved when it was with them and the Moroney law office is handling it now and it has to be resolved with them because of the age of it, it's been past due a while. You don't know what you are talking about-anyone else reading this blog don't follow this idiot's advice and waste your time, he obviously has an issue with the law firm and it was one big waste of time doing what he suggested because the amount my daughter owed did move after time passed. The firm was not that bad to deal with they were interested in resolving it and did so professionally.

last yr I had a book that I did not return because the school was closed due to bad weather (which is not my fault). when I tried to return it a week later, they said it was late and that the card I had on file didnt go through. so they told me to call fedchex. I called fedchex and they told me to call law offices of crystal moroney. I called and now i owe so much more. which upsets me bc i could of just paid it last yr. but i figured nothing would come of it. well... I just paid it because I dont want this following me. i want a clean record. This whole thing is a pain in my [***] but they are legit.

I find it quite comical that "different people" keep posting on here claiming that "they are legit". yet not one of them can produce a single letter from the "law firm of crystal moroney" in which the debt was validated, which is the one thing that would actually prove legitimacy.

Mooski Seems to be a confusion let me help you understand. As for letters I can not help about that, as I know many companies are accused of not re  sending letters for most throw away such letters or they get lost. What I do know is that every company is legit when getting information passed to them from any vender, people avoid paying because they simply don't have the funds or may not recall its been so long. NY has many law firms and collection agencies and you can not believe what you read on any site. I learned that myself by doing the research. Rephen Law Firm and Crystal Moroney amongst others mentioned on here are all separate. Seems to be Crystals office collects on college books and other various debts that are most likey legit. Brad Rephens office seems to deal with actual legal assistants and lawyers who represent venders on credit cards and bounced checks and are in neighboring locations. People that owe debts often feel upset when getting the call or have to call either or any place of business. Out of such anger they come across they are quick to revert to the internet to bring any place of business down. However it does not change anyone's credit report, I have found that out myself. I am glad to finally get closure myself after reading such responses, which we have every right to confirm. I can not explain the office banter and finger pointing but people who owe debts and do not like the news such as myself, some  vent in a dis tasteful manner and think by venting the company employees names, and co. names and rash jokes are funny, it really does not solve the problem. I hope my information that I was able to research from being mislead on this site too we are victims of that, and know you weren't the only one confused and we have a right to know. Lesson learned never believe what you read on the internet or a company forum. Best Wishes!

Did my research: Sorry to hear you've been duped and fooled by these two co-conspirators in their collection fraud. Crystal and Brad are one in the same. 119 Rockland Center is a UPS store. There are no "suites". Moroney has an office on the same floor as Brad Rephen. Morney is Rephen's new frontman. Rephen's reputation is ruined and he's afraid of his own shadow and being sued. So he went out and hired Moroney under false pretenses that her job was respectable. Rephen has simply transferred his firm to Moroney so her reputation could be ruined and not his. Both firms add illegal fees to drive up their unwarranted profits. Do not pay.

I had a call from amber hunt also.  She was with crystal maroney law firm. I owed 1400.00 for a debt, but since their law office took over the debt I have to pay them $2,570.00.  If there is someone who knows if I really have to pay that much back. Please let me know, or can I just pay  the debt of 1400.00 and know that legally  there is nothing more they can do?  Please help me find out my legal rights.
