few months later...

hi im after sarah williams im calling from anz bank, just wanted to verify your account ...

seriously speaking, so many people wouldn't think that its a scam

mine started off with a male calling from westpac! he had an australian accent and spoke like a proffesional..who would think its a scam and who would think it actually is WESTPAC?

before all this happened it wouldnt come into my mind once, that a man calling from a bank speaking very proffesionaly turned out to be a scammer trying to get my money. they are smart there not dumb!

OH and one other thing that might freak people out quiet abit!... before i had the number 0011976000. call me i had a man from a bank call me as i just mentioned before...the number started with the code area of the suburb i live in (mind you my suburb is tiny)... police did there job and turned out..

freaky yes! like i say they know there job good. they left the phone number on for a reason..they know you cant find them no matter what. once they couldnt get my bank details because i knew something freaky was going on..they tried to scare me

I received a call from this number yesterday from a man with a foreign (?indian) accent asking for me buy name. He then advised he was calling about my current telstra landline to which I advised I was not a telstra customer. He stated that the line is owned by telstra and then verbally abused for "hanging up in his face last time"???? He totally freaked out!

Got the same call several times between 7:20pm and 7:30pm on the 4th of November.
The call dropped to a beeping tone everytime. First 2 seconds then later 23 seconds.

I just got this call a minute ago, when I answered it, the phone just dropped. It's quite weird. But I thinnk this number might be provided by one of the internet phone companys overseas, it woulnd't cost the caller a cent, but I don't get why they hang up when we answer it, it doesn't make sense.

got a call from that number 5 mins ago, picked up and then line dropped after 2 secs...

11976000 = 11(international dial prefix without the zeros) 976 = Mongolia 000 =used in Mongolia when ID block required or forwarded from else where

ITS ALL SCAMS PEOPLE! ignore them and change your number!

I got a call from this number at 4:39PM today.  The women who spoke to me claimed she was from a business directory and that they want to check our details.  I confirmed my companies name only and said that I had a call on another line.   I put her on hold so I could google her number and let me say I’m not at all surprised I found it on here  anyway, the women hung up on me.   My advice to anyone who gets a call from this number is to hang up!

Its an internet phone landing number. Anyone could be on the other end - anyone whos signed up for an 'internet phone service' for cheap international calls. The 0011 is the international prefix when within australia and some times it ends up on the front of calls from overseas in to australia. Then typical numbers are 10 digits and the number gets chopped short so you get 0011 + 6 digits and with the end of the number missing. It could be a friend, it could be marketing, and regardless of intentions if their gear is not set up probably you might not hear any audio. Cheap and nasty generic phone service.

haha, i just got a call from this number, 4 times today, bit scary aye, i never answer a number i dont recognize and they chose never to leave a message when the answering machine picked up

im in aus as well and it hung up after 2 secs. wtf?

Yaarrrggh they called again!

I just got a call from 0011 976 000, from a Philippine Telephone company trying to sell us mobile call service.  We are in Australia.  They farmed our number from somewhere that records our outgoing line number.  I thought we had it set as a hidden number, but our service stuffed up and it has been unhidden fro a while.  It is now hidden again

I got a call from this number today. On the other end was a computer voice telling me all operators were busy so I hung up

Just had the same thing (12:02pm WST), pulled my mobile out of my pocket thought about picking it up, stopped ringing after 10 seconds then had a call from a private number straight after... Googled the number and arrived here :) I'm in Western Australia on "3" Sounds like everyone here is on Australia, I'm thinking its a landing number used for cheap overseas calls as well althou the only 2 people who are overseas are my sister (in the UK and her number shows up) and my ex in Singapore (who would text first) very strange!

Please read antus' post 08 Dec 2010. Answer is there. I think sometimes the number shows up as private. Only started getting these calls when I signed up with vodafone. Coincidence?

My version was a recorded ad for a cleaning service. Personally I think it's a bad choice of advertising as I will never press 1 to find out more especially when it is on my answering machine.
