10 March 2011, Sydney NSW, between 8pm-9pm, two calls from that number (0011976000). This time claiming to be from a company whose name is mentioned too briefly to catch, but telling me that my computer is sending "error messages" to the "international router" and that the they are just notifying me of the problem. And offering to fix it if I sit down on my computer and follow their instructions.
    RIGHT!
In the background it sounded like a call centre, and the operators were different. Both sounded Indian, but the second was not aware that the first had called. After speaking for about 30 seconds, I asked directly what they were trying to sell me. "Nothing" was the answer, they only wanted to help me solve my computer problem. I suggested that they were more interested in gaining remote control over my computer, possibly followed by identity theft - at which point the telephone line went dead.

A phone company for example telstra/optus etc. Has given private/public contact intel to another company or a telemarketing company because they have not much funds to meet the companies budget expectations and so whomever sold us out gets a [***] load of money or someone just got greedy and stole private information.
NOTE: The person that makes the call has to always refer your contact details to the white pages.
How to get rid of them: act out a police officer or just ask for the business name.

I have received calls from this number (0011976000) a few times claiming they were from Microsoft or from 'Windows' they are too stupid to realise that Windows is a product from Microsoft! Anyhow they are Indian and sound like they are from a call center. Guy called himself Victor and when I asked if I could call him back he said ring on small '3' could have meant small b #390018830.

It is a phishing scam, they want you to connect to their site, where they can download software to your PC, do this and all your sensitive data will be directed to their site.

Just hang up on them or string them along but don't follow their instructions or visit their site.
