I used to work for this company and they are not trying to swindle people! PTF is commisioned by various charities to phone (mostly) pre-existing donators to either increase their donation or to change from standing orders to direct debits. They will also carry out campaigns to try and get those who have cancelled their direct debits to 'get back on board'. They rarely cold-call as these are not very popular and are quite unsuccessful, but they do have some campaigns that run like this.

They are, however, a pretty horrid company to work for, with mass staff culling on a regular basis. Many of the callers get to a point where they loose all hope (we used to joke about our souls be kept in the basement) so that may explain some of the more dodgy calls. You'd think that fundraising would be more soul enhancing than soul destroying, but it's not. I can confirm however that the callers do not recieve any commission (not like the street fundraisers).

Even if you have registered with TPS, if you have given your details to a charity it is legitimate to call you. The callers do have a box that says 'I'm with TPS', which they can tick and you will be removed from PTFs database. The charities pass on your details to these companies so make sure you tick all the right boxes if you don't want to be called!

As for the repeat calls, if you don't answer, the caller ticks a box that says 'no answer', your number will then periodically pop up on people's screens until you do answer!

I am very thankful I no-longer work for them! Please be nice to the caller, even if you are annoyed, most people in that place whole heartedly hate the job! They take you on with the illusion of being a good charity based company, but they are far from it!

I used to work there too and echo the comments of the poster above. I was never a fundraiser however I can vouch for the terrible working atmosphere which is the result of the Managing Director - even the other two directors can't stand her. Everyone used to enjoy Fridays as they were her day off and the place could be run properly. There are directors of various charities who refuse to go to awards dinners as they know she will be in attendance.

As far as I am aware, about half of the former senior management resigned and went to work for a rival firm which speaks volumes. Don't blame the callers however, they are (usually) genuine and honest workers who have been conned into thinking they are working for a reputable organisation.

I have been receiving calls from this number recently too after texting HELP in response to the RSPCA advert so I am assuming it is this. I haven't managed to answer a call yet and they have never left a message.

I can back up the RSPCA story (I think). I just had a missed call from this number, put it into Google and found this forum. The call came 2 days after I cancelled a direct debit for a monthly donation I was making to the RSPCA after being talked into signing up to it on my doorstep by an agency working on behalf of them about 6 months ago. The agency were legit, but it seems that I'll probably have a lot of calls to ignore now that I've cancelled the dd.

This was definitely the RSPCA.  There are a number of volunteers running a campaign, they are losing money due to the recession.  He wanted me to change my standing order to a direct debit so they can claim the tax, which I said I would only do through the post.  The letter came a week later - quite genuine - no problems since.

My parents just had a call from this number, 01273673100. They said they were from 'Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital', they asked us to sign up to a monthly Direct Debit donation, or pay a lump sum of £12 now and £4 monthly.
My mum and dad are pensioners, but luckily  my mum told them she couldn't help at this time, I'm glad she did-in case this is indeed a scam.

My mum just took a call from this number and she said it was a nervous sounding woman who said she's from the NSPCC and she's coming round our house this afternoon because there's been a complaint! If she was really from the NSPCC she must have known that my mum has one daughter (me)....and I'm an adult (23) and that my mum is the most loving, caring mother I could ever wish to have.

The even stranger thing is is that when I dialled the number back, I got an answerphone message and it said that they were a team of "professional fundraisers"...!

These people are crazy. Just hang up on them if they call you and don't return the call. If we get anymore calls like this from them we will be reporting them to the police.

They've called me before and again today.  I pay a monthly to the Blue Cross and they usually call to ask me if I want to increase my donation.

They are legit, but it isn't too pleasant to be put on the spot by them the way they do.  As the posters above said, while you may be tempted to be rude, the callers are just doing their job and paying their bills.  I wouldn't do it.

This number has been calling me 1-2 times per day over the last 4 weeks. I rang it and there is a message saying that they are professional fund raisers who work for a range of uk charities...
Very strange. If anyone else has any other info, please share

They call me about once a fortnight on my mobile, always during the day. I've allocated the name 'HOAX' to the number and stored it with a silent ring so it doesn't get ring or get  answered.

You may wish to try that with this and other unsolicited calls.

Incidentally, although I give to a few charities monthly, none  of them have my phone number as I've only had it for a couple of months. So they've got it from somewhere else.

I missed a call from them this morning, rang back and got a pe-recorded message telling me they are professional fund-raisers and would call back. if I want, they can remove my number from their records, but I would need to speak to an operative to arrange this. Problem is, I can't see how to speak to an operative when they don't answer the phone. Catch 22, I think. It seems to me that they are professional parasites. . . . . (and I'm on the TPS as well).
