They are scams because of the misleading job descriptions in their advertisements.  They are scams because they are not upfront about the door to door selling.  They are scams because they are not upfront about the commission only basis. They are scams because they are not upfront about the fact you will be self-employed.  They are scams because they are not upfront about the hours you will be required to work.  They are scams because they do not mention the role pyramid selling plays with regard to any promotions you may be offered.
I would be interested to know what your interpretation of the word "scam" is. I am also wondering if you have ever had a real job or are you possibly one of the creators of these scams?

I forgot to mention another point.  You say these companies are doing nothing wrong.  They may be doing nothing wrong legally (as the current law stands) but what about morally.  What about the poor recruits walking the streets 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for much less than the minimum wage, sometimes nothing?  What about when they get home to their partners completely worn out yet they made no sales that day?  There lives are going backwards instead of forwards and their relationships and social life are suffering yet all they wanted to do was work.
This is a form of slavery, how can you say these companies are doing nothing wrong?

I applied on total jobs.com i applied to so many that i didnt even know who actually called me untill i got the email. They wanted to fit me in ASAP, and she said bring a CV with you and dont worry about the interview its not hard at all and we are all friendly people. Kind of gutted that its all a scam, but i did have a gut feeling that something wasnt right. back to job hunting ey! yippee. i was also supposed to have an telephone interview with lloyds tsb today, but they never called! also had an alevel exam which went really bad. today is not my day. tommorow isnt either.

is your name MIKE...by any chance?...or maybe MARIA?...no offence...but I would have worked hard but after the way the manager spoke to me..and maria...by referring me to as "fake"...obviously is gonna make me think the job is a scam, because calling someone fake, it TOTALLY UNprofessional, especially when it comes from someone who calls themselves a manager....they BOTH could have just said to me "do you need any help, or why do you give this act?"...but NOOOOO, they had to say "I think your not being yourself, I think your trying to be some one else, stop trying to be this person"...

The job is OBVIOUSLY a scam..I actually wanted to work hard on it, but after that...it made me think opposite. you don't speak to your workers like that, especially if your gonna want to show a professional attitude.

I'm 100% sure you are either Maria or mike...lol...I heard Mike went to brazil...Brazil being a poor country...man....I feel bad...really I do...cause they don't deserve this.

You can try and convince people its not a scam....but to me clearly is is...Whats EVEN worse was that I was ONLY there for 4 weeks, and one the 2nd week... both  Mike and Maria, started to tell me i was being fake...by this...you cannot actually blame people for thinking its a scam, because your actions are your actions, and your words speak through your actions... which of course were unprofessional..

to be honest..I would rather be seen sleeping on the streets, then to work for you ever again, or be on benefits. working for you and being on benefits are BOTH embarrassing, and I'm glad I'm not doing any of them...cause to be honest, I'd rather sleep on the streets then do any of those.

Just thought i would have to post something on here, because i went for an interview for bradford marketing in Birmingham because one of my mates works there he said to me before i joined them that they aint dodgy and for me not to worry about anything, so i decided to apply for the job went for the first interview and they guy who interviewed me said that there is no need for me to go through the observation day so i started on the same day has my interview, i worked my first week and on the second week i went on a road trip to weston super mare, and then the manager came with us and had a go at me because my mate was feeling down in the dumps and me and my mate didnt work that day so i told my mate that they are a dodgy company and that i was going to quit so when we got back to birmingham i went back home because i was a whole week away from my GF and family then i went back on the monday and the manager was telling me a story how in this business you put work infront of family and friends if you want to suceed. Then the following day i decided to quit. a few days after my mate quitted because i found out the were so dodgy they owe their workers money. he owes one kid about £3000 they owe my mate over £1500 and basically they owe everyone money. So if you go for an interview in Birmingham dont waste your time you deserve a better job.....

To be honest with you, all the people that seem to be moaning about the opportunity seem to just be lazy and happy living off the government! Bitter that they are never going to achieve anything in life! I'll be honest I worked for the company and it wasn't the industry I wanted to go down, but it is not for every 1! I have seen it change people's lives for the better! Every position is never glamorous when you start for the bottom it's just a sacrifice you make if you want to be successful in life! I feel sorry for you lot as you are all clearly unemployed and have nothing better to do and will never have the drive and ambition to achieve anything!

    Clearly unemployed?

Nah, i have a job and have better things to do but i feel like i should warn other people of this type of company as i was in one for 2 months and left to better things like having a life and enjoying my youth instead of walking round streets knocking on doors and spending all my money on trains.

I left to pursue a job i wanted to do, instead of a job that some over excited manager told me i wanted to do and told me that it would 100% give me untold riches. Me and you both know that 99.9% of people will never get anywhere. You may say its lazy but i see it as common sense not to waste my life on this.

You being an ex rep should see that life outside these jobs is much better and i wish you the best of luck in whatever you do.

(reply to miss Mancheter)This sound the same as junior enterprise in cardiff. Wat you have said is exactly the same... to the word... Fill your head full of dreams an cash in ffs. Glad i walked away on second interview. Question 3 was. I understand that i am not an emplyee an donot expect any wages lol. Ye right ok. On the first interview they told me i was on of five to be trianed as a maneger to run a team of 30. This a man that has only ever done constuction work all his life an don't know the first thing about busines. Anyway walk in with eyes open if your getting a call from them. Was like sheep all fallowing each other to run round an make cash for some one else an end up with some change an a pipe dream.

Last resort job thats for sure, only apply to this if you are literally about to die of hunger or are about to become homeless (to be fair these jobs probably wont save you from it but it would be worth a last try at least) and have nothing to lose, as you will lose a lot.

Better to live of the state by a LONG way. (I personally hate people who live off the state when there are jobs available and think they are lazy but compared with these companies..your gonna be better off waiting for something better to come along)

If your gonna do this dont bother going to college or getting a degree, and dont bother applying if you have one as you will become depressed with what you have achieved with life.

I fell victim to this scam last year which I am very annoyed about, I applied through reed, (Never again), I was sent an email saying that I had been chosen for an interview so I naively thought oh great. I went to the first interview and was given a form to fill in and attach my CV.

In the interview I thought I had messed up and so thought I wouldn't be getting a call, so I went on with my day it was about 5:55 when I received a call saying I had been chosen for a second interview, I was a bit wary about it, but my Boyfriend at the time said it would all be fine, and so I went on his advice.

I was not given much detail, just to wear sensible shoes and to bring a notepad, as I would be getting a glimpse into the Business.

On that second day I was shoved towards my "Mentor" an 18 year old who seemed to have no idea about anything and was told to answer all these silly questions about how I would market a business etc.

I was then told to wait outside peoples houses whilst she went and did her sales pitch, in Sale, I had to pay for my own lunch and bus fare.

I was out till around 8, I got back to the office and basically said this is a waste of my time, and left, as a Law graduate I feel so stupid that I had fallen for this, Plus me and my boyfriend broke up a few weeks after that and I missed out on spending time with him.

Don't fall for this it is a scam.

There are more important things in life, dont waste it on this job, you could work your ass off for months, only to be told your not gonna make it and asked to leave, with no respect for all the hours you put in and all your left with is a bigger overdraft and debts and a cv that looks like crap. Get a proper job people!
