Crooks, con men, thieving parasites, yes, we all agree, but isn't it time we did something more than just air our personal disgust about CVS here on this public forum?  I feel it's time we formed a group away from public view, and obviously CVS!

Who is prepared to step forward, and who is prepared to take the lead? Legal knowledge will obviously be needed.

    EX Employee
I worked in the Bristol office for a short period of time.  I have to say it was the worst experience of my life!!!  Not only do they treat staff like absolute s**t they pressure and mentally stress you out, not a good working environment at all.  Tony Dardis a swell as the majority of CVS staff are nothing but drug taking bully's!! As a company they pressure sell to make themselves lots of money and by harassing company's they eventually give in and end up regretting it! never have i been so embarrassed by calling a company over 20+ times saying the same thing and getting told NO and being verbally abused on the phone for repeated phone calls.  I have since left the company as i don't wish to associate myself with these type of people!

Little tip for you all, if you asked to be removed from there database following RICS code of conduct they immediately have to action this.  The last thing you should here from them is a letter saying this has been action ed for you.  If by this time they still call/send letters then call RICS as this is a breach of the code.

    Hope this helps

    Surveyor
Just so you are aware I am a proud employee of CVS and as for the stratton&Co - that was 13 years ago and the directors have paid with their time. As mentioned above CVS are RICS accredited they don't just give that accreditation out at their leisure. http://www.cvsuk.com/news-and-media/press-rel ... te-awards-2014/ . https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=EOKjyUMk1xU

    EX_CVS
Surveyor? You are proud to work for a bunch of fraudsters? Let me tell you as an ex employee of CVS in London how things really are:

All commercial properties that are not in a signed agreement with another surveyor firm to challenge the rateable value for the 2010 rateable period is considered viable. They do not care if your rates go up if they loose or withdraw your appeal.

Also when CVS arrange a meeting, they do not send a surveyor, instead they send a hard selling salesman that is only looking for a signature on the day.

They will tie you into a contract which will commit you to an indefinite time in your premises till the VOA has finished your case, otherwise you will be hit with a cancellation fee. Can be several thousands of pounds just to fill out a form. They will say the case can take between 12-18 months, but in most cases takes well over 2 years.

CVS will say they have the most comparable evidence? How is this possible, are there buildings that CVS are aware off that the VOA are not? If you want to see what your neighbours are paying as far as comparable evidence, just to go the VOA site and you will see. CVS are liars.

As telesales we use a system called prospects and just cold call people who have already been called 3000 times prior and trick them into just seeing if the case is viable, knowing full well we seek a signature on the day regardless of any changes in the building that could cause the rates to go up.

CVS London is run by an utter loony, mentally deranged who is incapable of having a 2 way conversation, by the name of Lea Miller. In the last month at CVS, i saw 9 people from telesales leave, and it is like that every month. The main reason is Lea who has an archaic management style. A Supervisor and mcdonalds would have more knowledge on how to motivate staff and improve morale and performance. So if you are one of those searching about Employment with CVS London, Bristol or Manchester, let me tell you that you will make the worst decision of your life to join this company. They will train you in manchester for 3 days, with train tickets paid for and breakfast and dinner at a travel lodge or something, but after that the nightmare will begin. My advice, do your due diligence and work for an ethical firm with a clean history.

The funny thing about CVS was that when i told new prospects that we had worked with their neighbours, it was all good until they actually spoke to their neighbours who would tell the truth about CVS and how they screwed them with cancellation fees or did nothing. CVS will bill you when your rateable value has decreased and not when the actual rebate comes though from the council.

If you sign a contract with CVS you are truly an idiot, My guess is in a few years time, CVS will have to rebrand again, as it seems most of the previous clients were the hardest clients to do business again with.

Oh and if you are business that gets many calls from CVS, be sure to tell the telesales person that you will report them to RICS and that you do not want to be called again by CVS and would like to be removed from the database. The calls will go away for awhile.

Surveyor, these are not by competitors i can assure you...you are quite deluded, typical CVS numpty...

ANYONE who is called from Commercial Valuers and Surveyors (CVS) should say the following to the telesales staff:

    1) I will not give instruction to your commercial property consultant on the day and can not it the meeting, i will not sign on the day, but you can speak to my finance manager.

    2) What happens if my rates go up? Can CVS put it in the contract that they should be subject to any increases?

    3) Why are criminals still acting as CVS company directors? Tony Dardis, Jason Clarke

If you say point number 1, the meeting will not go ahead.

One of the biggest reasons why telesales firms flourish is the lack of transparency on the true outcome of their appeals which is somewhat different to the sales pitch.
Fortunately all appeals decided by the Valuation Tribunal are published and accessible by a Government search engine if you know where to look
    1) Go to http://info.valuation-tribunals.gov.uk/Decision_query.asp?Mode=3
    2) Select the radio button saying All Decisions
    3) Enter the Agents Postcode in the box. Try using CVS's postcode of M16 0PQ
    4) Click Search Now

You will now have a spreadsheet list that has a column saying Keywords. Only where there is View button in keywords will the appeal have been successful. All the rest will have failed and if you click on them will usually say StruckOut.

Another telesales firm is Hammer Properties and their postcode is IG1 2QY.

If you do the search on both firms you are in for a bit of shock on the number of failed appeals but this is the bit of the business model that the telesales firms keep quiet about.

With so many failed appeals, as they are working on a success basis, they have to charge twice or even four times that of a normal professional firm or slip in  fixed fees dressed up as something else e.g. fixed percentage rv cancellation fees

To make matters worse some telesales firms will just let the appeal fail or farm it out to someone to deal with it who doesn't have the experience and an appeal that should have succeeded will fail. What is more the ratepayer is then often barred from appealing for 7 years.

Reform to the appeal system is inevitable as the telesales appeals are clogging up the Tribunal listings and are in no-ones interests.

But if everyone just refused to take their calls, then, problem solved.

Thank you for your post.i have had for some time all appeals submitted by three companies from manchester and of course hammer properties from Essex.it makes horrific reading.ever since the days of strattons and old fields reinvented as cvs the whole rating scam has got out of hand.how has this happened?simple.trading standards hardly do anything.the rics are more interested in subscriptions than regulating this industry and the vo and vt ,although they know who these scammers are have their hands tied.i was hoping that from November a statement of case would have had to be submitted with the appeal.this would have slowed down the scamming, but this has now been kicked into touch.we now have a firm from the Rochdale area trying to charge £500 for the govt giving £1000 refund for all rv under £50000.these companies have to be sued in a class action.their lies know no limits.

To be honest with you the reforms would have just made matters worse as the VO would have been deluged with multiple appeals and the system would have been less transparent.  And whatever change you make the cowboys will find a way of making money out of it.  It also seems from your email that Mike Harding was wrong about it hard being a cowboy in Rochdale!

The point is where do we go from here?cvs are not really top of my hit list as they don't charge upfront.however they put in appeals on a wing and a prayer and as you correctly point out block up the system.they then have the nerve to complain that the vo are not dealing with the backlog quick enough.their contract is not watertight, although they may think so.fees are ridiculous and they continually pester clients.this is not something the rics should be proud of.however it is the other firms who take an upfront payment of around £1000 ,having verbally promised their clients thousands of pounds refund.success rate is between 5-10 percent according to the spreadsheets.the media are now aware of this.have you any further ideas?
