I had a phone call today, they asked for the owner of the business and asked how much i am paying on the tax for the shop. They said "it's under £1,000 you pay, isnt it?" And then hang up.
I hate calls like this, that leave you wondering what they actually wanted.

They called for the M.D. and said private financial call but would not leave a message

Same thing asking me if i get relief on rates and if i have got another premises,then they hang up strange folk.

The reason they do that is because if you occupy one property under £18,000 RV you can get relief on your business rates liability.  The telemarketers can see what your RV is to see whether you fall under the the first category but they cannot see whether you have the second property which is the deal-braker.

You are allowed to receive the relief as long as that second property does not have an RV of over £2,600 RV - they phone you to see whether this property exisits, if it doesn't they strike a deal to get the relief for you and if you do have the second property they hang up.

Another rude call from some woman with attitude. We get them regularly. Then she hung up when she found she was wasting her time. What a miserable life they must lead.

Asked to speak to the MD of our company, even went as far as saying it's an urgent financial matter. What planet are these idiots on, calling on general telephone numbers. Rude as always. Telesales ought to be ilegal

I just had a call asking for the business owner, and I said "Yes, how may I help?", and she said: "Ok, no problem", and hung up!

very weird call, from nick gill, was very pushy and said he had someone around to to visit us about rates. knew about how many floors we had and rateable value. Sounds very fishy.

Had several phone calls from a Mr. Gill claiming to be THE Chartered Surveyors. Asks for our MD by Christian name then asks for his mobile number. When told I don't have access to it re-states  that he is from THE Chartered Surveyors and needs our MD to phone him urgently. Extremely pompous and self-important.

S J Associates - Low life that call TPS registered numbers trying to con you into taking their rates review service.  Always use a local agent rather than a bunch of crooks.

ITS A TELE-SALES COMPANY, SO WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU, IT'S A COMPANY TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING. JUST REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE NOBODY GIVES YOU ANYTHING FOR FREE.   AND YES THEY DO RING YOU AND THEN PUT THE PHONE DOWN ITS A CALL CENTRE IN MANCHESTER YOU CAN HEAR THE OTHER CALLS GOING ON IN THE BACK GROUND.  ASK THEM TO PUT IT IN WRITING !

I had one of their people come to see me at my business and then sent me a bill for £1000 for doing nothing. Its a pure scam. Do not entertain s&j associates.

HAD A CALL AND VISIT FROM THIS COMPANY MAY 2010, NICE POLITIE COMPANY, SAID COULD SAVE US MONEY ON RATES, PAD THE CASH £816 INC VAT, AFTER MONTHS & MONTHS OF NO CONTACT CALLS TO THEM, WAITING FOR CALLBACKS THAT NEVER CAME, I FELT LIKE THEY DANGLED THE WORM AND LEFT ME A MAGGOT. WHEN YOU DID SPEAK TO THEM VERY RUDE AND FULL OF SH*T.

THE VALUE OFFICE CONTACTED USE FILLED OUT FORMS AND DID ALL THE WORK FOR FREE AND DID IT IN 4 WEEKS. ADMITILY THEY JUMPED THE GUN, BUT OPENED MY EYES TO HOW POOR THIS COMPANY IS.

AFTER ALL THIS I GOT A CALL CHASING FOR ANOTHER £150 AS THEY SUPPOSED TO OF GOT ME GREAT DISCOUNT, THE REASON I GOT DISCOUNT WAS BECAUSE OF THE VOA AND NOT THEM.

WHAT IT BOILS DOWN TO THAT FROM 2010 TILL 2015 I MAKE A SAVING OF AROUND £1027 HOWEVER I WILL OF LAID OUT £803 PLUS VAT. SO AFTER ALL THIS WORK MESSING AROUND PHONE CALLS ABUSE FROM RUDE STAFF I SAVED £212 OVER 5 YEARS, I GET NOT FAR OFF THAT FROM MY ISA WITH THE BANK.

MORAL OF STORY IS , THAT IF YOU CONTACT YOUR LOCAL VOA OFFICE FOR RATE APPEALS AND REDUCTIONS THEN THEY WILL HELP YOU, IT TAKES THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME BUT ITS FREE FREE FREE FREE FREE FREE

SJ ASSOCATATES ARE A SCAM COMPANY, YES THEY SAVE YOU MONEY BUT NOT THE AMOUNT THAT THEY MAKE OUT.

At the end of the day the VOA are there to generate as much revenue for the government and a simple phone call to them is not going to get your rates down.

Firms like this specalise in standing up for ratepayers everywhere. I read an article online about how the government collects £3billion in revenue per annum from over valued businesses. I would asume some people are never going to be satisfied but their bound to provide a decent service to the vast majority.

I have just taken a call from these people.  VERY VERY VERY RUDE man who when I told my MD was not available started shouting at me on the phone.  I ask for his name and number so that his call could be returned, but his constantly interrupted me getting LOUDER AND LOUDER in his tone.  He was trying to scare me.  He then insisted that he wanted my name after he made to call to us and he wanted to complain to my comapny about me LOL !!  There are only 4 of us here and two of them are my Directors who at the time where listening.

had sja associates ring my business, i say no to all calls like this but the female who called me, somehow got my attention, her sales patter was " we make an oppointment to view your business which there is no charge  within 24 hours i have a pompes git telling me all the success stories he had achieved with local business's which  some I knew of. after many stories he feels there is a possibility of a rate reduction and will contact the local rates office to see if they are prepared to open a case for reduction, at this point he asked me to sign a plain form giving them the authority to speak on my behalf which i do sign but not giving my normal signiture because i was smelling a rat and felt in an awkward situation. Guess what within another week they have had a successfull meeting with the rating office and they have opened a case on my premises, they now need to come round to my premises again do a detailed measuring of buildings, to see if there are any mistakes the rating office has made, the appointment is made and the same man is to appear in 2 days.  I make a phone to a few of the business's he had claimed to have gained large reduction's and HE HAD NOT, they all said no to them in the 1st place. He duly came to my premises and did a 5 minute nonsense valuation and then place a very poor  photostat invoice on my desk and asked for payment of £695plus vat up front for the services he was about to undertake on my behalf, it felt awkward and i told him my cheque book was at home and he left.
                                         One month later there accounts phoned me to tell of the outstanding invoice, I told them it was not outstanding because i not going to use their services, you are you have signed a contract no i hav'nt i reply, within minutes all there documents come through on my fax, and they call me back within minutes, I then  are put through to their legal team a prat called martin, he rings you every day telling you how clean your credit rating is and how I would'nt want ccj's on it, tells me how long have you been in business 30 years you should have known better to sign a contract without reading the small print phone calls on ongoing

Having the same problem, S.J Associates call from there accounts dept? and then threatened to bankrupt me, I have no right to cancel, shouted down the phone, can do without this aggravation, I was very stupid to sign, posponed untill end of September, but now I have no wish to do business with such
aggresive unprofessional people, I guess they are just middlemen they have only been in business two years, look up the directors???. do not know what to make of them and taking legal advice.

I am in the same situation as well, very aggressive, very unpleasant people. Threatening wind up orders and all kinds of things. I even stopped the guy doing his so called survey before he had a chance as I was worried about it being a scam. Nasty people doing business in a very bad way. Wish I could tell everyone about them. I reported them to trading standards, and suggest that you do the same. Perhaps if lots of people complain then something will be done about them.

Ive just got the same situation land on my desk this morning!!!

We need to keep the activity on this page... I think if everyone complains to trading stanards and Watchdog we may get somewhere...

They spoke with one director and claimed that no charges will be payable until we actually received a saving and when this director left the office advising the salesman to return another day as he had appointments to attend to, the salesman saw a window of opportunity...
At nearly 70 years old our semi-retired director happened to be in the office that day, He has bad eyesight and has a heart conditon with a pacemaker..
Our director listened politely to what the salesman had to say, but refused to sign ANY contract without the other director(s) being present unless the salesman would read ALL terms & conditions to him as their were only one page of T&C's. The salesman slowly read through the T&C's to our director whilst he often interupted the salesman to repeat or elaborate on sections of the contract... But it now seems vital points were left out and not stated to my director as he was duped into signing.

Luckilly our director has informed me that 2 customers were present in our small office throught the entire meeting and it seems one listened in closely as he is a business owner and afterwards even said to my director that it sounded awsome and great how there were no fees payable until after we had seen a saving.... I will be contacting these customers for statements to put forward.
